Stayin Alive is used by the American Red Cross to teach CPR. The beat matches the Compression rate needed for CPR. This song literally helps people stay alive. Queens Song Another one Bites the Dust can also be used but The Red Cross prefers the more optimistic song

@RNDReacts That’s Maurice Gibb (the shorter one) on the bass guitar in this song; and Barry..the lead, is playing acoustic guitar on the song. THE BEE GEES WROTE ALL THEIR OWN MUSIC, as well as writing & producing for other artists. They were the complete package! Next: Either “Fanny Be Tender” or “Love You inside Out”

The high pitched vocals are known as 'falsetto' voicing. Try out 'How Deep is Your Love' which contains both falsetto and lower range vocals. It's another banger.

@@shortaybrown Uh, no. I had already completed college, when the movie Saturday Night Fever came out. There were NO DISCO HITS on the radio, or in the top 40 on the radio, UNTIL the song, Staying Alive was released. If there were disco hits before, I never heard one. By the way, places where we went to dance and meet women, were called discos, before Staying Alive hit the airwaves. The top 10 Rock songs of 1977 were EAGLES - Hotel California LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Free Bird (Live) AEROSMITH - Walk This Way FLEETWOOD MAC - Dreams STEVE MILLER BAND - Fly Like an Eagle BOB SEGER - Night Moves MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND - Blinded By the Light QUEEN - We Are The Champions / We Will Rock You FLEETWOOD MAC - Don't Stop FOREIGNER - Feels Like the First Time. STAYING ALIVE, was released in December 1977. STAYING ALIVE and NIGHT FEVER by the Bee Gees, were hits in 1978.

Err, highly arguable, compared to e.g. How Deep Is Your Love, and the era had to exist in order for the film to exist. It didn't create the era - it dramatised and popularised it. Discos existed long before this, in the US and in Europe. Being in the charts does not define when the era started, but when it became mainstream. And you might want to look up Donna Summer in that regard. She was having disco hits in 1975. AHHHHHHH LOVE TO LOVE YOU, BABY!

Robin recalls, "The subject matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is actually quite a serious one; It's about survival in the streets of New York, and the lyrics actually say that". Barry Gibb also recalls, "People crying out for help. Desperate songs. Those are the ones that become giants. The minute you capture that on record, it's gold. 'Stayin' Alive' is the epitome of that. Everybody struggles against the world, fighting all the bullshit and things that can drag you down. And it really is a victory just to survive. But when you climb back on top and win bigger than ever before, well that's something everybody reacts to everybody".

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ_MiYaebNuKiKs Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnCm2xmm6h8oZY, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJerhoZrgstjZrM. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Wcp4V-iLyBmM0. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXdHykedOHoZo. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2eVeJ93etWZqLs. Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3zHc4mBmLiGidk which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWewg2B7lLatsJI And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

Inspired by the Nic Cohn paperback Tribal Rites of the Saturday Night, who was the plot for the classic Saturday Night Fever Movie. Since 1977 fifth best selling single of alltime 34 million EAN units sold worldwide , passed How Deep is Your Love and Night Fever in certified sales 26 years ago. It is claimed from in a survey of all radiostations around the globe as most airplayed song of all time in 2017- every 20 seconds - this plays everywhere around the world and for sure it is the most iconic song of the 70´s decade. It’s a part of our shared cultural heritage now - one of those pop miracles that just never gets old, never wears off, never loses its charge. This monsterbanger remains alive and was way ahead of its time. And indeed one of the most covered pop songs in history. Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Benny Anderson from ABBA where green of envy when they heard this tune.

'Nights On Broadway' was the first song they used their falsettos in, but Barry comes in low and powerful...a really great song about following his girl to a night club. The live version on the Midnight Special TV show is the best because you can see them playing their guitars...especially Maurice setting the tone for Disco bass for all time! I bought the Rickenbacker 4001 in my photo just because he played one like it in 'Jive Talkin'! 😁

You are so right, the Bee Gees are the best! The Bee Gees are three brothers Barry in the middle, Robin with longer hair, and Mourice who is balding. Robin & Mourice are twins. They started singing together when they were kids in the late 50's and became famous in the 60's. They wrote all their own songs, way over 1000. They have also written hit songs for a lot of other famous artists. You have just fallen down a very good rabbit hole. Keep investigating the Bee Gees I know you won't be sorry. Enjoy. Try Nights On Broadway, or For Whom The Bell Tolls, or You Win Again, or some of their older songs like Massachusetts, or I've Got To Get A Message To You, or I Started A Joke. Or so many more to choose from. They are all good.

spot on with what you said, i would like to add if that ok, they came from england, but they were getting into trouble, so their parents moved to australia, which was the start of the career, still struglgling as singers, went to america whwre is took off, They have wrote and sung over 1000 hits, they have wrote more hits for others stars, than themselves, Dionne Warwick's 'Heartbreaker' (1982), Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers' 1983 hit 'Islands In The Stream' and the 1985 UK Number 1 that was Diana Ross' 'Chain Reaction'. just to name a couple

The Bee Gees didn't always sing as much in falsetto. My favorite song of theirs is "Massachusetts", which is sung by Robin. He has a very unique but pleasant voice and Barry joins in and then Maurice in the main hook. I highly recommend it. Also, "Words", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and "I've Got To Get A Message To You" are good ones, as well.

I can confidently say that I am a straight 67 year old male and as I said I wasn't much into disco but Barry Gibb's hair just makes me so envious and jealous!!😅😅 What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL head of hair in this video!!!😮😮❤❤ This song really took off because it was the intro song to the movie Saturday Night Fever, which catapulted John Travolta's career into the stratosphere!!! There was much phenomenal dance music in the 1970's. Have you heard KC&the sunshine band - That's the way I like it? Earth, Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland? Jacksons - Blame it on the boogie?

Another great Bee Gees song. But please, pretty please, with sugar on top, get your brother and also listen to Spirits (Having Flown). You won't regret it.
