Great video Stan. Great comment. Did you notice how the guitar sounded like bagpipes? After all they are Scottish. Another fantastic Scottish band called Hue and Cry sang a superb song called Labour Of Love.

I used to sit with Stuart at the football (He was a big Dunfermline Athletic fan), I still miss him. I photographed the band just before Christmas, still touring and fantastic to see.

Criminally underrated, they were big in the 80's, and should have been bigger, try Fields Of Fire, or Look away, RIP, Stuart Adamson, you've listened to a Scottish band, how about a Welsh band, have a listen to The Alarm with their biggest hit, Rain In The Summertime, you could also have a listen to The Teardrop Explodes singing Reward

Back in the 90s, one of my friends had a big crush on a woman from his work. Though she talked with him a lot at work and was very friendly, she was still hung up on her on-again/off-again boyfriend--who was in Big Country! I wanted to tell him, "You're a nice guy and all, but how about going for a girl who's not dating a rock star?" haha

Everyone who grew up in the 80s knows this song - it got played everywhere and for a time Big Country was poised to be a big thing. You could think of them as one of three big Celtic-influenced bands in the early 80s, including U2 (Irish) and The Alarm (Welsh). We all know which one of those bands made it big. Unfortunately Big Country never quite caught on in the US except on alternative and college radio. But because they got me at the right time in my life - they'll always be my favorite band, and this will always be my favorite song. Check out Fields of Fire, Harvest Home and other songs from The Crossing (their first album, which this is the first cut off). But most importantly, check out some live performances. Big Country was an amazing live band, because of the energy of the songs and especially Stuart Adamson, and their connection with their audiences. Last week, I attended the Celtic Connections Festival here in Glasgow, Scotland, which celebrates folk music with musicians from across the world performing. Shortly before his death, Stuart Adamson and the band had recorded a song called "Fragile Thing," with guest vocals provided by the incredible Eddi Reader. She fronted the band Fairground Attraction and has gone on to have a successful solo career. She performed "In a Big Country" at the festival and paid tribute to Stuart.
