The line is If Your Child Needs A Daddy I Can Help. Best line of the song.

"If your child needs a daddy". The early 70's were the first nostalgia boom for late 50s 1st gen rock n roll and simple roots music. This was based on that. Dave Edmunds "I Here You Knocking" from 1970 is another good one. The group Sha Na Na and TV shows like Happy Days and movies like American Gaffitti were all based on the resurgence.

Yep - thought that the 1970s were 100% dominated by Disco music is pretty flawed really - there was still a lot of other stuff hitting the charts.

Great reaction. My mother loved this song. She died 23 years ago but hearing music like this brings up such a clear and happy image of her in my mind. Makes me smile and cry at the same time. Thanks.

i'll always associate this song with a commercial that played a lot in the 80's, i forget the compnay but iwas for a service you'd use to "help" you, they chaged the words slightly to say "WE can help" instead

The single edit does stop at the first break with the applause. Supposedly, Billy had a studio in his house and while he was singing, his dog came over and started tugging at his pants leg, wanting to play. When he made it to the end of the song, the rest of the musicians applauded him for sticking it out.

Love this song, Billy Swan tells a great story, it is a great sing along song! Thanks for this one Harri, brings back great times 💎🇨🇦😻☮️💜 He sings an Elvis song ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ which is great ! Part way through his dog came in the set up home studio & was pulling at Billy to come & play, at the end end end the band was applauding him for finishing the recording !

Billy Swan produced Tony Joe White’s big hit, “Polk Salad Annie.” They worked together frequently throughout Tony’s career. There’s some hilarious byplay between them in the studio on Tony’s cover of John Lee Hooker’s blues classic, “Boom Boom Boom.”

In the Seventies, I could pick up capital Radio which was relatively new along with the few pirates remaining like Nordsee International. I can remember that this record got heavy play at one time and quite rightly so because it's a superb song, especially the organ. But then, at the same time, Richard and Linda Thompson's "I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight" was released which is absolutely fabulous and Cat Stevens, "Another Saturday Night" which was fantastic too. So there were three great songs being played at the same time time. It's a great memory.

@@personalcheeses8073 I did not think it was bad news. But the music press critics I read thought it was. The comment was " Yes. It's like Ringo Starr and it is as vacuous as Ringo Starr's output has been recently " it was the NME I think. I totally disagreed on.both counts I am just relaying the comment not agreeing with it. I thought it was a bit harsh in.its reporting. I

Yeah a lot of today's agressive rap music stylings are about as far away from this as you can get - though there are still people making music of this type if not quite of this sentiment.

After this he put out a really good version of Jesse Stone's (AKA Charles Calhoun) "Shake, Rattle and Roll" which IMO comes close to being as good as the Bill Haley version - and uses the original lyrics, not the sanitised ones Bill was forced to use.
