This song is from the 70s. It's relating to the Vietnam conflict and any war really. How the generals and top 1% start the wars, for their own profit, but have others do the fighting. I was in the Navy when I purchased their first album. I was stationed on a Destroyer, so the ships store was too small to store albums, so I had to buy their 1st album on cassette. It was 1970, I was 18. I've never heard of them before. The album cover caught my eye, with the scary looking witch in the garden of what looked like a church. Well, when I placed it in my cassette and hit play, I was completely "BLOWN AWAY!!!!" Ozzie's' voice, and the very unique sound of the band. I was hooked for life!!! I'm 70 years old now, and Sabbath sounds just as good as they did to me in 1970.

@@dionysusincarnate5713 Evidently you completely missed the point as Smedley Butler, wrote "War is a Racket"" which allows the rich to make money and the poor, soldiers and most of all civilians to suffer the cost. Butler was a decorated marine but was used by the US government forces to act for the corporations and banking system. An example being the invasion and occupation of Haiti, marines taking their gold reserves from the bank at gunpoint and handing them over to the First National Bank.

Ozzy's always had a lot to say about war and poverty. I saw an interview with him where he was walking through his old neighborhood in Birmingham England, and he said the kids all used to play in the bombed out buildings - he was bourn at the end of WWII. Song was written in the 70 when all of us were watching our friends get drafted. Thank you Ozzy, and thanks for inventing heavy metal.

This song was released in 1970. The band got it's name from a Vincent Price horror movie of the same name. What made them different from other bands is that everyone else was singing about love and being happy. Ozzie Osbourne (lyricist, singer) described their music as being about nightmares, and a reflection of Manchester England, the dirty industrial city they grew up in! They are considered the first heavy metal band!

Try "Snowblind", guys. The chorus is heavy AF. Early Sabbath can be rough to get into because of the sparse soundstage, but "The Wizard" packs a GROOVE that will put a smile on your face every time you hear it. BTW, it's almost a trademark of Black Sabbath's to make songs that you don't neccessarily like that much initially, but that you're forced to surrender to as your own musicality catches up.

I am from this music era and Black Sabbath then was not a music played on the radio! In LA, it was played after 11 pm along Iron Butterfly and others of the kind. I am so happy to see younger people searching about Sabbath. Motley Crue was on tour with Ozzy as the supporting act during the ant snorting incident. The reason that it was highlited was that Ozzy was the only musician the Crue met who could out party and out crazy them. Ozzy was notorious on the road with Sabbath and more so when he went solo. Sabbath is undeniably Ozzy's greatest band, I saw them play live during their 1st reunion tour.

The guys in the band were kids in WWII Britain. This is what that sounded like in the music and influence. Thing about Black Sabbath, is they were the antitheses to the hippy music movement in their day. Also Ozzy was the only one who had a lot of gear(equipment wise) and a place to play.

Album came out in 1970 actually, during the vietnam war. It'll blow your mind every time you listen to it, the album was a good decade ahead of it's time
