The "very cool, way to go" bit I interpret as how so many white folks do "socially responsible" things not because it actually improves things for people, but for the personal validation they get when other people compliment them for it. They make their activism about themselves, rather than the people whose lives are actually in danger and who need help. Think about Socko's line after the second verse of "The way the World Works"

And black people dont. Lol. Thats why BLM has 60 million mysteriously missing while the black people that run it are buying all sorts of stuff. Owning 4 houses. GTFOH . Bo's "stand-up" is him singing songs. Every song you've done a reaction of is from one of his "stand-up" specials. But I do suggest watching his specials in full. My favorite Bo special is What but Inside is a very close second.

His intro to What touches me deeply, because when I first saw it I was in the same situation. Just knowing I sucked and pushed people away and made everything a joke to deal with it all, it was genius

It's from the Netflix special, "Inside," and it's about being an artist confined during that infamous year, as the person slowly goes mad. When you can, you should see it from beginning to end to get the full impact. It's really very creative. And most everyone can relate to that angst.

At this point everybody goes into a Bo track actively dissecting and analyzing. I think it’d be funny as hell for him to hit us all with something that seems really esoteric and complex, but is actually bs. Then just walk away and let us all argue and chase our tails until the end of time

He could call it Sargent Salt and the not so lonely hearts club band haha. To play devil's advocate there is something to be said about expierencing different perspectives, ideas, emotions, etc. Of things that you are a fan of that's why I watch reactions of the same song but of different personalities and perspectives because it allows me to discover or consider another feeling or idea to Bo's songs and performances that I didn't have before.
@Time_Is_Left2 жыл бұрын
@@_Glass-_-House_ Oh I didn’t mean to sound condemning, maybe I should edit… I do it to. I watch a probably unhealthy number of reactions for all the reasons you mentioned. I get annoyed when a reactor nods to the beat, chuckles a bit, then bounce lol (Small tangent, some Bo fans need to CTFO when criticizing shallow reactions; some of us are real ducks about it). I just think it would be funny lol

@@Time_Is_Left oh your good I did indeed misinterpret your comment but I understand what you mean now and in a way I would argue Bo's song "Unpaid Intern" is a jab at the reaction based formula of proformance. Yet him doing a whole album or even a whole song that is meaningless for the sake of being meaningless would be brilliant but to be fair anything Bo makes I would argue would be amazing so indeed I agree people, fans, and everyone in between should chill out and just enjoy the expierence of the original content and the expierences of the reactions of that content. Perhaps we will get there one day that or a religious Bo Burnham cult forms and we are all doomed haha in this world only time will tell.

i think a big part of Content and Comedy, and most of his specials tbf, is that was also a lot of pressure on him to "cheer people up" with his comedy put on him. Just the fact that this kid went viral on youtube and immediately was praised as a creative genuis, being made to put out content on content. Even with Inside, self-admittedly he wanted to go back on stage, perform (All Eyes on Me), I hear a lot of that pressure put on him in his songs to cheer the audience up, to be relatable, to create genuine art. that's not to say, he isn't all that, he is a genuis, he is an incredible artist, but i can't help but feel that pressure to succeed and make perfection, simply by how much he puts in it as well. Like the music production and visual productions are, and have been, incredible. but imagine feeling like you have to do all that, that people almost expect it from you, and that mixed in with self-doubt of like "am i really the person who should do this? what qualifies me, a kid that got lucky, to take on all of this responsibility?" idk idk i just really appreciate him also i really appreciate your reactions! i've been binging your content all night and your commentary is so insightful and genuine and i just love people experiencing bo burnham for the first time, too, taking the time to listen and think of his lyrics and such. 10/10!

It's not just white guilt, but also recognition that white people have been center stage for a while, and now here he is, another white guy, feeling it's up to him to take charge and lead the way. the Blindside line is even funnier now a days. Michael Oher has basically come out and said that the story is a lie, they did not adopt him they placed him into a conservatorship which game that extreme control over his story and his finances. According to the Tuohys they did the conservatorship because he was 18 and so they couldn't adopt him. Which is wrong, adult adoption is a thing in their state so either they are lying, their lawyer (a long time family friend) is lying to them, _or_ both the adults and the lawyer are incompetents and later realized they could use the contract they placed him in to make even more money.

I dont live in america and i have the feeling that the whole concept of white guilt is something thats predominantly american. Maybe thats why I took a bit of an issue with some of the things he said in the song. From my perspective, it doesnt matter if you are white or not, speak up if something is wrong. And even if you do that primarily to validate yourself who cares if you end up achieving something good? Then again, maybe I am missing something.

Great reaction Polo and well done standing your ground with the frequency of pausing your videos. You are absolutely right this is a reaction and your perspectives and emotions coupled with my own from watching the original content is what makes the content you make stand out from the original video. I just don't understand why people don't realize that. Bo really does intertwine his stand up with his ability as a musician it really is proformance based as his comedy especually earlier in his career was poking fun at performing. Rather you decide to make a video of it or if you just decide to watch it in your free time I highly recommend you checking out Bo's appearance of "In the Green Room with Paul Provenza" it's Bo with a group of comedians just taking the piss out of each other and Bo really holds his own even without him performing music throughout it here is a link if you are curious. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rai7cqCmgttmaLs Regardless can't wait for the next video and thank you for putting all this work into crafting content that is genuine as well as entertaining its such a rare thing to come across on youtube let alone the internet. This is one where you should have watched the video. And we hate pausing because a reaction requires CONTEXT. If you pause right before context is given to something you're about to comment on... then we want you to wait, absorb, and then respond. That's still a reaction, just a more, complete, contextual reaction. We're not trying to watch the video through you. If you're chopping up to avoid copyright, bet, but a reaction is better WITH context.... always Not trying to be an ass, just helping. The best place for commentary during a song or play is during the thematic change.
