If you are liking Calli's music, then I could not recommend "End of Life" enough. "Excuse my Rudeness" is her most well known song, but in my opinion End of Life is her *best* song. It's also more of a song rather than rap, so you'll get a better idea of how good of an artist she really is.
@CyrusMajin2 жыл бұрын
I think one of the best descriptions I've given someone to explain "end of a life" (yes, there are no caps) is to call it a "Rap Ballad." The singing in it is very similar to how I think of ballads (which I might be wrong about), and there is still wrapping that even at it's highest syllables per second or at it's most emotional still has a feeling of being somewhat subdued. Someone describe Gura perfectly... she has this uncanny ability to just mimic sounds and the way people speak. Not only is she able to read the lyrics, but she's able to had accent and general dialect - the stuff that makes a language truly fluent - into her speech. It's a scary talent to have and that little agent of chaos thankfully uses it for entertainment.
@GOTGames2 жыл бұрын
Jeez... That is crazy!! 😮
@h.43152 жыл бұрын
This exactly gives her the edge of sounding like a native Japanese despite not being close to fluent. This means that she can act with Japanese speaking lines or singing like a Japanese person just by ear. Seems like the perfect little package for Hololive to further their entertainment brand. You might have noticed Gura’s ability to mimic Japanese pitch in her original song Reflect. If you want to hear more of her covering of Japanese songs, check out her cover of _Sorairo Days_ with Natsuiro Matsuri.
@Vasharan2 жыл бұрын
Gura is like a human Lyrebird. Play her a song in any language, and she will be able to remember and reproduce it, even long, complicated musical passages. In her karaoke songs, she has sung spanish, french and portuguese songs, and sounds amazing in them despite not speaking any of those languages. This may be linked with how good she is at rhythm games, she can not only remember complicated passages after a single listen, but also tune in to and predict the flow of the music naturally. This does come with some downsides, though. Once she "learns" something, she has a very hard time unlearning it, even if she learnt it "wrong" the first time. After Kiara taught her some uncouth phrases to say in Japanese, she was able to remember them a year later when interacting with her JP senpais.

KING is one of the most popular songs for VTubers to cover, probably because it’s “safe” in terms of getting copyright strikes on it. Because there’s so many covers of the song, it’s become a challenge for covers to add individuality and stand out from the bulk. The Calli + Gura cover achieved this by modifying the lyrics, adding to them (such as adding raps in the instrumental parts) and turning the song into a duet.
@lareolanKFP2 жыл бұрын
So true, between VTubers and utaites (Japanese cover artists) there's hundreds of covers of this song out there if not more, and yet Calli & Gura managed to create a definitively unique take on it. Though I'd also say that Reine's cover of the song is pretty distinct as well, and Suisei has definitely put her stamp on it with her powerful vocals.
@SKy_the_Thunder2 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: These two didn't record this in the same studio at all. Calli was living in Japan (which was under travel lockdown at the time) while Gura lives in the US. Their "jam session" lasted over several days or weeks, with them sending back and forth the different tracks, adding new things and building off of what the other did with the song. The result is a cover that is considerably different from the original, with a more fun tone to it, added rap sections and a different instrumental interpretation. For both Calli's singing voice, as well as an animation starring several Hololive VTubers in one, I'd recommend checking out the "[hololive Alternative] Teaser PV (full ver.)" on the official Hololive channel.

Just remembered, for Calli singing there are a few, but they released a song not too long ago called "Non-fiction" where you get to see and hear each member of their group, so Calli, Gura, Ame, Ina, and Kiara all in one song singing together.

Calli is one of the best rappers of Hololive. The other one is Watame. They both have a Rap battle called Reaper vs Sheep. I really recommend it, it has two versions, btw.

I don't know if someone has already mentioned this as there too many comments for me to readily check, but King is a song originally written/produced/mixed by an EDM artist named kanaria using the Gumi voicebank. As such it is an excellent electronic vocaloid work which tend to have very forgiving "free use with attribution" terms so covers are generally safe to record. He has quite a few original pieces that are in the same set which also get a lot of covers, but none quite as many as King.

I second all the suggestions for: Suisei - “Stellar Stellar” and “Her Trail on the Celestial Sphere” Taku Inoue - “3:12” (Sanji Juunihun) Towa - “Error” and “Pallete” Calli - “End of a Life” And I also suggest checking out EN Hololive member *Hakos Baelz (Bae)* cover of “A Million Miles Away”. It’s actually stunningly good.

Gura cant speak japanese at all where Calli is from America but lives in Japan right now and can speak it very well as she also writes her song in both languages. A really emotional and more "singie" song would be "End of a life" from Calli For other Hololivemember once again Towa,Kanata,Mona, AzKi, Sora Reine
@Geminosity2 жыл бұрын
I enjoy this version and how they clearly had fun with it. That said, my fave cover of this will forever be Reine's. Redshift really revs the song up and it's nice to see a different take on the video with it being a lot more dynamic instead of just redoing the art for it like most do :3

These two are so good together! This song was originally a vocaloid song (another huge rabbit hole to potentially enter) and they did a really good job with the cover. As some mentioned, believe it or not these two actually recorded this separately since Calli was living in Japan and Gura in the US, but they often will stream together and it's nonstop fun shenanigans. Also, did you catch in the second half that Gura is whispering the lyrics in the background ASMR-style? It really adds a lot of depth while Calli is singing in that verse. I've said it before on other videos, but Steller Steller from Suisei will blow your mind! Also, I highly recommend checking out Tokoyami Towa who is another incredible Hololive singer that I think you'll really like. Great reaction dude!

My fellow deadbeats (Calli's fans) already recommended her entire library to you at this point. I wanted to highlight ones that I haven't noticed in your comment section before. IRyS - Caesura of Despair - IRyS was brought onto Hololive specifically for her singing ability. The others are considered multi-talented for many reasons. She has a soothing voice and positive messages in her songs. This is her debut song. Tokino Sora - Step and Go - Sora is the OG, HoloLive's first and one of the longest active Vtubers there is overall. She's one of the pillars that built this form of entertainment and that came from immense talent and grit all in a sweet and humble package. She naturally has an extremely huge song library, but Step and Go is one of my favorites of her. Omaru Polka - Hologram Circus - Polka is sort of a Clown, but in reality, there is so much talent she's rightfully considered an entire circus. Polka's streams and songs are something out of legend. As one commenter put it, this song Hologram Circus has enough energy to power a small country (and she got it subtitled in English too.) Special Mention - Blue Clapper - One of Hololive's most addicting song I can't recommend it enough.

KING is an exceedingly covered song. Gura and Cali's version stands out by being a duet, as well as their ad-libs and Cali's rap between verses
@triluxx_032 жыл бұрын
King is such a great song! I don't watch hololive often, but in the times I do, I'm blown away by how good they are with this kind of stuff If you're interested in diving deeper into the Vtuber rabbit hole, I'd recommend NIJISANJI :) It's another popular Vtuber agency- There's the main branch (Originally it was just the Japanese branch, but the Indonesian and Korean branches have since merged with them, which is why it's mostly just referred to as the main branch since some members don't even speak Japanese), an English branch, and also by extension, what's basically a Chinese branch (Virtuareal, which is on Bilibili) I don't know too many covers/original songs from the main branch, so all the recommendations below would be from the EN branch I really like all of Enna Alouette's songs - Wish of This Songbird and her cover of King are my favorites. Also, Maria Marionette's cover of God-Ish is just- great. When it comes to original songs, my two favorites would have to be Deja Vu (Uki Violeta) and the previously mentioned Wish of This Song Bird (Enna Alouette) Another thing about NIJISANJI is that similar to how Hololive debuts vtubers in "Gens", they debut them in waves (For example, Finana Ryugu, Elira Pendora, and Pomu Rainpuff were all part of wave 1 which is named Lazulight) and release a song along with them. I'd recommend the first wave song Diamond City Lights and fifth wave song Stuck in the Abyss Apologies for the wall of text but also Millie's Marshall Maximizer/Kanon covers and Sana Ako Nalang to be completely honest, just nijisanji as a whole

These two are incredible! Each and every single member of Hololive interact with the others in their own unique ways (obviously) and Calli and Gura (whom call themselves "Bonebros") have this unique chemistry of, I don't know, sisters? Like Calli being the older, calmer but still mischevious sister and Gura the hyperactive gremlin. Truly incredible! Even if we are past Halloween, I highly recommend "Myth or Treat", the song that the 1st gen of Hololive EN (aka HoloMyth) made for the past Halloween. Also "Non-fiction" is breathetaking, sung by all five girls in occasion of the second anniversary of their debut. If you want to know a bit more about Gura, recently a short animation came out, named "Get Shark'd" that narrates her first few steps on land.

End of a Life by Cali. Stellar Stellar by Suisei. Both of them also have songs with Taku Inoue that are awesome. Yona Yona Journey is an upbeat Jazzy kinda song with Cali, and Sanji Juunihun aka 3:12 with Suisei is a very mellow song. If you want something a little closer to a Halloween vibe there's Myth or Treat which Cali wrote the lyrics for and is sung by all of her genmates including gura. Also Graveyard Shift with Cali and Boogey Voxx.

This is my absolute FAVORITE cover of "King". I love it so much cuz Calli and Gura sound like they are having so much fun recording it. You can really hear it in their voices. Recommendations: "Play Dice" by Hakos Baelz is one I think you'd really love. It kicks off fast and goes full throttle through to the end. Also, for a different pace, Calli's "End of a Life" is quite an emotional ride. IMO, it's her best song because she really bares her soul.

Next time I fly into Mildenhall I'll look you up, and I want a Bar-B-Q Pastie! Thanks for giving Vtubers a listen again, as always it's great to see someone expand their music repertoire! I agree with the others in comments, 'End of a Life' is an important milestone for Calli, if you really react to the lyrics and understand them you will be blown away how deep it goes.

When Gura and/or Calli talked about the recording process for this cover, it was mentioned that they sent the recordings back and forth to each other, especially with the adlibbing, which in turn let them have that call and response feel. This was necessary since Calli was in Japan at the time while Gura was in the US (I think on the East Coast, but I'm not sure). Who ever did the audio mixing deserves mad props, as well. From using the left and right channels for "Left Side, Right Side" respectively to putting Gura whispering the lyrics in the back half of the second verse so you can barely tell it's there elevates what would have been great and skillful cover of the song to something amazing. Since it is Halloween season, you really should try "Myth or Treat.": kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKbThWyAeK-Uhbs I would also again recommend something by Steam Powered Giraffe. Maybe "Automatomic Electronic Harmonics" for an early song on their channel (though not with the current roster of performers): kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYK6imCAhM15aKs Edit: I'm curious if you'd be down for some recommendations for some Vtuber fan animations. Admittedly that is a whole other rabbit hole. It's interesting to see how different animators interpret some of these events or conversations. It also gives you a loose idea about how they all interact.

Since you're at it, I think I can add Reine's, and one foot outside the Hololive universe, her mother Pochi's version as well: Pochi's version might not be on the same level as Reine's in terms of vocal virtuosity but the video is eye-popping with Easter eggs aplenty.

Since Halloween is coming I would like to recommend "Myth or treat". It's a song that Holo Myth (the group Gura and Calli are part of) made for last year's Halloween, it was going to be just a joke song but the guy they commissioned the track from gave them a banger. It was a last minute thing, so much that Calli wrote the lyrics in one night.

King has been covered by a lot of people. In Calli's and Gura's case they'd made the song theirs, with the adlibs and such, so you could say that it's theirs, in a way. Kanaria is a Vocaloid producer that has released songs that have been viral in the vtuber (and other circles), King is maybe the most popular one, but all are worth a listening. Calli did a translated (by herself) cover of Kanaria's 'Envy Baby', it's worth a watch

I feel obligated to pitch some of the less promoted Hololive singers and their amazing songs: Sakura Miko: "My Name Is Elite", "Sakurakaze", "Baby Dance" Amane Kanata: "Tokusya-Seizon Wonder-la-der!!", "Tenshi no Agape" Shirakami Fubuki: "Say! Fanfare!", "KONKON BEATS" Oozora Subaru: "Pleiades!" Honestly I could keep going for a while but those are some standouts for me.

I was pretty hesitant on whether it'd be good to recommend you outright covers from vocaloid songs or you wanted to listen to the originals first and then the cover, but if you have no problems to directly check out covers, then hell I have some recommendations: Hiiragi Kirai - Bocca Della Verita (Mika Melatika cover) Kanaria - Unaware Drunkard (Iida Pochi cover) Kanaria - Identity (Enna Alouette & Millie Parfait cover) Kanaria - Queen (Tachibana Music, Epic Metal cover. Not a vtuber but his version is imo beyond amazing. I'd recommend to check the original version first and then compare that to his) Kikuo - Aishite Aishite Aishite (Vestia Zeta cover) PinocchioP - God-ish (Ado cover. Also, not a vtuber but a godly singer) And then, as you were down to react to live karaoke (Ironmouse's), I thought you may like these ones as well. Naming the vod and timestamps so it'll be easy to find if you want to check them out: - [#NijiMelodyTime] end of summer singing time~! [NIJISANJI EN | Elira Pendora] YOASOBI - Yoru Ni Kakeru (14:45) - [#EliraBirthday2021] SINGING WHATEVER I WANT [NIJISANJI EN | Elira Pendora] MikitoP - Roki (1:32:28) Got quite excited there- hope I'm not being a pest, and that you keep digging deeper into this rabbit hole, everyone is crazy talented. Have a great day
