Regarding the red and blue subtitles, Reflect is something of a duet/conversation between two versions of Gura. Gura's lore is that she's a shark girl from Atlantis. The red subtitles are the more aggressive, primal, feral shark side of her, which is aggressive, petty, yet also protective; while the blue subtitles are the more gentle, friendly human side of her that just wants to be accepted, but is afraid. There is some fan speculation that the red side represents her pre-Hololive self, which had clawed her way by tooth and nail to popularity, often to her own detriment sinking deep into alcoholism, while blue represents her current self who ponders where she would be without the aggressive red pushing her so hard.

I also took it as her talking aloud about her mindset joining hololive -- she wasn't happy, and her community and her relationship were toxic, and those same fans seemed to really want her to break character/return to the raw shitpost troll version of herself-- she sings how that wasn't her either, so just cause this character is cutesy doesn't mean it's less her / less real then the past version. It also is a really great lore song, though, so people could just be reading too much into it.

@@jefalmero5658 IMO, she has not really gone back to her old ways. No pure shitposts, no generating her own memes. BUT, she did take what she learned from all that past to build and control an audience and to frame her character's narrative. It's a thin line that she balances well. All the yabai clips without going too far.

Calli and Gura are "genmates", debuting together in a collective branch of Hololive known as "Holomyth", also known as "Hololive English 1st Generation". The vast majority of talents with Hololive have genmates of their own as well with a rare few who debuted on their own for one reason or another. The various personas of the Myth members are; Calliope, First Apprentice of the Grim Reaper; Gura, the shark that hails from Atlantis; Ninomae Ina'nis (Ina for short), priestess of the Ancient Ones; Takanashi Kiara, a Phoenix; and Amelia Watson, time traveling detective. I highly recommend the songs "Journey like a Thousand Years" and "Non-Fiction" as these are collaboration songs for all five members of Myth, lyrics written by Calli. Also, you are getting Gura's name pronunciation pretty much perfect. "Violet" by Ina is also a beautiful song to listen to and one fan made an anime outro using it. I would also recommend checking out the Indonesian branch of the group known as "Hololive ID", with my top choice for first exposure being Moona Hoshinova with her song "High Tide". It was the song that really got me started paying attention to that side of Hololive, especially since her genmate Ayunda Risu has an incredible song of her own, "ALiCE&u", that pulled me in even further. "Why isn't there an anime?" May i direct your attention to "Hololive Alternative"? there are a couple of PVs on youtube depicting different Hololive members in a universe constructed by the various bits of lore and such behind the many personas that makes up the family. It is such a fun concept to think about and I so very much wish to see it fully made into an anime.
@jesarablack16612 жыл бұрын
Non-Fiction is the one I would lean that recommendation towards as it keys on a little lore for each of the members along the way.
@ODDnanref2 жыл бұрын
Also, Amelia was a normal detective at debut. Then she accidentally revealed she could time travel during a different stream. Breaking the kayfabe, she was playing that she could time travel hence why the save point in the game were working. Or something like that. It then became a small joke that she perpetuated and now we have Amelia Watson the multiverse traveling detective. She no longer is confined to traveling time, she can also travel different universes and timelines. The Constantine of the Hololive universe too. As her tendency to fix problems and her persona give her that vibe.

I'd also recommend the "Holomyth vs Ina" fan animation series by @Mazumaro. There are compilations of the first 5 episodes, with sound added by @ZeroChroma or @Kuroyasha. There are new episodes coming out, but the series so far is a little over 5 minutes long, so you could do the whole thing in half an episode. The pace it comes out at is slow, but that's understandable considering the quality of the animation and that it's just one person's passion project.

@thelastfenian34622 жыл бұрын
There's a lot to unpack in this song and that in itself is a bit of a rabbit hole. There's three layers to it. The general superficial message that anyone can relate to about looking at your past self and accepting who you are now, the layer that touches into the lore of the character she plays, and then the layer regarding Gura's past persona before she was Gura and worked for Hololive. She used to be a rather popular Vtuber that got swallowed by her fandom and alcoholic persona she kept pushing herself to meet at the detriment to her own health. After that persona disappeared from the face of the earth and she debuted as Gura she started a new life and seems much happier. The song was an acknowledgement of where she came from, a thank you to where it brought her today, and a goodbye to that life.
@Gsolaris2 жыл бұрын
This is the most accurate summation of the song. An acknowledgment of what made her what she is both personally and career-wise, and a farewell to what was as she moves forward. Some part of her will always be the blue gremlin, and that's ok. She can take the best parts of what she was and make something more of it that is less likely to destroy her. A healthier, happier "me". Good for her.

Don't feel bad for not knowing it's ok! I think it's admirable wanting to learn about something so HUGE. I'll break down the idea of Hololive and V-tubers for ya if you don't mind the read! Hololive is actually a japanese company that strives to bring a platform to content creators that audition for them that they hire. There are about 80 or so content creators in total under the Hololive branding that split into 3 main branches: HoloJP, HoloID, and HoloEN. HoloJP is, of course, the japanese cast of content creators. HoloID, is all of the Indonesian ones. And HoloEN is more of a blanket branch for "anywhere in the world, as long as you can speak English." These content creators do their first stream debuts in waves of 3-5 members at a time with several months of preparation beforehand. We call these waves of debuts "Generations." For example: Calli and Gura both debuted with a total of 5 members together in the 1st Generation of the HoloEN branch. They call their Generation "HoloMyth" to make things easier for people. All of the characters are just regular content creators who stream, play games, make music, interact with their stream chat/community, and use their character as their public persona. It's a nice and easy way to separate your public life and private life. Hololive isn't even the only company on the market right now with V-Tubers. Two other big notable ones for example include Nijisanji and Vshojo. (Vshojo is the label that IronMouse falls under). And outside of company-based V-Tubers, there's also all of the independent V-Tubers who just do what they do like a regular streamer/youtuber would do on their own time. Company-based V-Tubers are far more popular compared to independents as you can imagine, but they do have rules and regulations they have to abide by as per working for a company. Every V-Tuber brings out their own personality, character, lore, memes, music, and memories with their chat/community and it's a really fun time. The term "V-Tuber" actually goes back to 2016 on KZbin when a content creator first appeared and went under the name "Kizuna Ai" with a 3D-modeled virtual anime girl persona and coined herself as a "Virtual KZbinr" or "V-Tuber" for short. V-Tubers in general outside of Kizuna Ai weren’t very popular outside of Japan until the pandemic hit in 2020 and people were forced to stay at home. To put into perspective, the highest subscriber count in Hololive was around the 500K mark in April 2020 after 2 years of streaming. Fast forward to November 2020 and that same content creator hit 1 million subscribers. Gura herself debuted in September 2020 and in a single month hit 1 million subscribers. She was the third V-Tuber EVER to hit the 1 million milestone in the world. January 2021, Gura hit the 2 million subscriber milestone and was the SECOND V-Tuber in the world to hit that. July 2021 she hit 3 million and became the first V-Tuber in the world to hit that milestone. Currently she’s sitting at 4+ million and still as entertaining today as she’s ever been. The idea behind V-Tubers allows people to go out there and present themselves without the fear/anxiety behind showing your real face on camera. Edit; added more context about V-tuber popularity before the pandemic and Gura’s milestones

(The parent company of the various Holo branchs) has an absurd amount of vocal talent under their umbrella. Almost every member sings to some degree and each has a really uniquie voice yet somehow, from what I have heard, you can mix any member with any other member or group and they still sound amazing. They are just SO entertaining to watch. i can happily sit through a multiple hour live stream of any one of them even without understanding the language they're speaking.They all have their various "in jokes" and memes among their fanbases and they're all really good bantering back and forth with their chat. They may use anime models but it doesn't feel disconnected, fake or like they're acting. There are times I more or less forget it's an anime model I'm looking at and just accept what I'm seeing as who they really are. As if Cover has some secret source of living anime people that they've hired and portray them as "vtubers" to keep it secret.

I remember the stream where Gura talked about this song. I vaguely remember her interpretation was that Blue is the desire to break away from the norm and achieve something while Red is the inner voice in our heads that criticise our own actions, belittling our own worth, and demand that we give up without trying. Essentially it's a song about dealing with our own inner critic. While she explained that she also said that the song was open to interoperation so it can be read any way the listener interoperates. Be it lore, or some other matter that the listener themselves feel the song resonates.

You hit the nail on the head with the themeing. The red Gura concept was established in this song and was her managers idea. It's sort of her aggro/agressive and edgy side vs the blue standard gura who is all cute and innocent. It's now established character lore and she has acknowledged this herself by calling her red side Gawr and her blue side Gura. She had an anime made for her first 3d live concert that fully brought red gura into her lore.

The red lyrics and red depiction of Gura is both her feral side, and also a representation of the person she used to be. Talking down to herself, and urging her to return to old habits. That's what this song is. Reflecting, both in the literal "there are two Guras, with opposing color palettes" sense, and also in the "looking back on your past" sense.
@RangerJoe772 жыл бұрын
She was one day messing around with her 2d model and flipped her blue colors with red and it eventually became Canon that was her primal form before she came to the surface. She was more feral before she left Atlantis. You should see her Short animation Gawr Gura Shark d.

Honestly it's hard to recommend more songs since THERE IS SO MUCH GREAT STUFF. Towa, IRyS, Suisei, Watame, Marine, AZKi, Sora and I could honestly list all other 50+ members Hololive is a powerhouse of music and content. And to your question about "Calli's and Gura's relationship", they are very good friends (They call themselves the bonebros lol) and in general Hololive are pretty close together, it really helps that since they are corporate they are all working together for the same goal at the end of the day, which has led to no drama between the talents (unfortunately there is drama but it is external) and it gives it a comfy "everyone is family" vibe.

Okay so recomendations. Hmm. Holomyth Calli ☑ Gura ☑ Nino'mae Inanis {Ina} She has a few songs. Takanashi Kiara is a super pop vide. Amelia Watson is still working on singing lessons, she was not a singer when she started so she has no unique songs. 2nd Gen Holo Council. Hakos Baelz she has a few songs with very diffent vibes. Nanashi Mumei has two singles. Ouro Kronni and Ceres Fauna have a few covers. Tsukumo Sana has one song, Astrogirl. She had to stop unfortunately so she is now "graduated" (Means she left the company. Some gradutated VTubers leave'join companies others retire). The last member of Hololive English is IRyS and she is specifically a VSinger so she has many songs. (Suisei was a VSinger at first too.) Here are a few songs to check out. Original Songs Violet by Nino'mae Inanis Astrogirl by Tsukumo Sana Play Dice by Hakos Baelz Ceasura of Despair by IRyS One Step at a Time by IRyS Hinotori by Takanashi Kiara DO U by Takanashi Kiara Cover Songs い〜やい〜やい〜や(Whatever whatever whatever) by Takanashi Kiara and Nino'mae Inanis A Million Miles Away by Hakos Baelz ft. Everyone from HoloPro (Hololive: Ladies, HoloStars: Gents)

Thank you for the reaction again. Recommendations of "anime OP"-style Original songs by Hololive (Since you seem to like that): "Alice&u" - Ayunda Risu (Slice of Life anime genre) "High Tide" - Moona Hoshinova (Epic Shounen anime genre) "A New Start" - Nanashi Mumei (Grand Adventure anime genre) FYI: Deco*27 (Pronounced DecoNiNa since 2 in Japanese is "Ni" and 7 is "Nana") is a Japanese music producer. He (they?) make a LOT of soundtracks and lyrics for both VTubers and Vocaloid (such as Hatsune Miku).

The funny thing is Gura though being a smoll shark is actually the biggest Vtuber, period. Her generation (which also contains Mori) debuted 3 years after Tokino Sora, the founding talent of the Hololive agency. Despite the delay out of all the talents under the Hololive Productions banner Gura was the first to 1m .. the first to 2m, the first to 3m and the first to 4m subs. Now she sits at 4,22m in first place worldwide with a pretty comfortable lead on literally any other Vtuber out there. And it all started with a scuffed debut and the now iconic first word: "A".

Since you asked, "why isn't there an anime?" i have some suggestions for you. First is The Hololive Alternative trailers (there are 2) which briefly show all the talents in hololive while also setting up and teasing future lore and media plans such as, manga, concerts, and games inside of a FULLY animated MV. The first of the trailers is actually sung by Calli herself, though she has gone on record saying she has begged to be allowed to re-record it because her singing has improved dramatically in the last 2 years. And the second is sung by Suisei and 2 others (AZKI and Moona) from hololive and features Calli (and her genmates) in the animation. My other suggestion is checking out the official sneak peaks of a concert they did earlier this year called Hololive 3rd Fes which will show you the amazing 3D AR tech they use to put on LIVE shows in front of a LIVE audience. 3rd fes was also the first concert to feature the overseas talent from Hololive English (Calli's branch) and Hololive Indonesia, ewhich no joke has a few of the strongest singers in all of hololive. Holo Alternative 1st teaser: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYPbna2AjLytmrs Holo Alternative 2nd teaser: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIPWm6ljf7CsnJo (these are offical teasers and not ripped from a paywall btw) 3rd Fes JP (no performance audio but shows clips of the whole show) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKK2lpiPd82ioMk 3rd Fes EN (features Calls and her genmates and has proper performance audio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ_LhGBjh6yqrKc 3rd Fes ID (performance audio in there and you are not prepaired for Aynda Risu at the end): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ60d42bitB-oqs

Violet: By Ninomae Inanis is a very calm and more heart warming song and feels really clean when listening to it if that makes sense. I Would also highly recommend High Tide: by Hoshinova Moona from hololive Indonesia. The song is in English, sounds awesome, and has an amazing animation to go with it.

Thanks for the reaction! You were more or less on point with the meaning. I think the red Gura is her before joining Hololive and the blue is her as a member of Hololive. The song serves as a back and forth between them and echoes some of the struggles she's had in transitioning but also ultimately the positive direction things are going in. It's hard to know where to start with recommendations for songs because there is such a vast quantity. From your AoT openings video it seemed like you prefer more rock/metal based songs so I'd recommend Okayu - Akabane (A Deco 27 song), Watame - Everlasting Soul (has english subs) or IRyS - Here comes hope as ones you might enjoy. A good starting place if you want a more general feel would be this channel: kzbin.info/door/94Mhi_4KZNX7bzHaoBnRTw. They do a weekly top 50 most viewed for Hololive Cover songs, bi-weekly top 40 most viewed for Hololive original and occasionally other lists (e.g. top 50 most viewed Hololive songs of all time etc.)

Great reaction, i like your positive attitude and the variety you have on the channel. If you want to check out more Hololive maybe a few Covers of "King" all in the same video would be nice. That way you could compare a few Hololive talents and learn about their different styles. For example all these Hololive Talents made a King Cover: Gura&Calli, Hoshimachi Suisei, Ayunda Risu, Tokoyami Towa, Nakiri Ayame, Tsunomaki Watame. Of course that would be a pretty long reaction video if you put them all in 1 video and it is the same song over and over, but to get to know some of the different styles in hololive i think it would be nice to hear the same song interpreted differently by all those different talents and i think there are even more King covers from Hololive members, the ones mentioned above are just my favorites ;).

Hololive is the general label of the group, Gawr Gura, Calliope Mori, Takanashi Kiara, Amelia Watson and Ninomae Ina'nis are Hololive EN Generation 1 Myth, or Holo Myth, there is also a second EN generation named Council as well as 6 Japanese and 3 Indonesian generations + the VSingers IRyS and AZKI and last but not least there's also Holostars which features male talents with 4 Japanese and as of recently 1 English generation. Pretty much all of them are good at singing, some of them are absolutely insane at it. If I may suggest a few bangers: Hinotori by Takanashi Kiara Violet by Ninomae Ina'nis Play Dice by Hakos Baelz
@stavik962 жыл бұрын
The way I interpreted it she's basically talking about her past self before Hololive as she was rather popular even back then. Back then she did mostly covers of more memey songs often while drunk and from what others have said she was struggling with depression back then. The red I feel is both a part of herself, the self-deprecating self, and part of the fanbase telling her she ain't the "gem of the sea" she wants everyone to think she is and she doesn't know shit. But she also realizes that without her old self she wouldn't be who or where she is now so she has to accept that part of herself and find a middle ground where both sides can coexist without trying to destroying itself.

The Hololive rabbit hole. When you look at the bottom of the abyss it only brings you down even further Some of my top recommendations from the English branch are: Play Dice - Hakos Baelz Red; Live Again - Calliope Mori SPARKS - Takanashi Kiara HERE COMES HOPE; Caesura of Despair; One Step at a Time - IRyS Non-Fiction - Hololive English Myth Rise - Hololive English Council Top of the World - Holostars English Tempus From the Japanese branch an always good recommendation is more Suisei of course, but Palette by Tokoyami Towa is very good And I don't know if you are interested in reacting to cover songs, but the Cover of Bebas by Hololive Indonesia is great! Sorry for the info dump and continue enjoying the rabbit hole!

Gura has an absolutely amazing singing voice, it's unfortunate that she has very little official songs (Alot of karaokes though). Hololive has 100s of hours of music, you wont run out of good music to check out. So hololive has different branches, English,Japan and Indonesia(EN JP ID) There exists Generations for every members that they debut(start being a vtuber) at the same time, for exemple Gura and Calli are apart of the same “gen” cuz for EN its not really a “gen”, its called Myth HoloMyth members are Calli,Gura,Amelia Watson,Inomae Ina’nis and Takanashi Kiara There are 2 “gens” in EN which are Myth and Council which has other members + a VSinger(who mainly only does songs and doesnt play as much) aka Irys u should check her out aswell For exemple Suisei is part of Holo JP gen 0(there are currently 6-7 gens in the JP branch) the members in Gen 0 are all like the first hololive members but they actually debut at different times to the rest but bcs they are the first ones everyone called them “gen 0”. And il say it again, PLEASE react to Tokoyami Towa and her songs(suggestion her cover of Error, original Palette and My Roar, also the cover of Hearts)

If you want recommendations... I would say do a double feature of the entire group together. They all collaborated on two songs so far, It's amazing to see how much they improved in that time. The older one is "Journey Like a Thousand Years" and the newer one is "Non Fiction." Now don't get me wrong, Journey is still great, but Non Fiction is ... much better. Aside from that, take Calliope Mori's songs, and just... go down the list. You will not find a bad song in her entire discography. "End of a Life" is probably the best one in my opinion though.
@seangill25222 жыл бұрын
Alright, quick explanation. Gawr Gura and Mori Calliope are both part of Hololive English. Hololive itself is a vtubing idol company from Japan. The English branch debuted with Hololive Myth (Mori, Gura, Amelia Watson, Ninomae Ina'nis, and Takanashi Kiara). They have since gone on to do a 2nd wave , Hololive Council, vsinger IRyS, and an English male group, Tempus. Ironmouse is a part of Vshojo, the first big name English vtuber company. It has several popular known vtubers like Nyanner and Projekt Melody. Another Japanese vtuber company, Nijisanji, also has English branch with 6 waves of talent who all do a debut release song. Vtuber music is catchy as hell and you can't really go wrong, but some stand outs are Red, End of a Life, Scuffed Up Age by Mori, Hinotori, Sparks and Do U by Kiara, and Stuck in the Abyss by Noctyx.

So there was once a Twitch Streamer who did not know anything about Vtubers; luckily for him, one of his best friends was an absolute expert in pretty much all things Hololive. This expert put together presentations of information and supporting clips to introduce the steamer to various artists in Vtubing. Instead of letting this content potential go to waste, they recorded it and made a secondary channel to post it to. If you ever want a good basic summary of a vtuber, there's a good chance that there is one ready to go on the Nagzz Discovers channel.
