@@etypefan1 Hi, I know this is an older post but DANG you are so right! *shakes her head* I'm just starting to learn Japanese, and the cultural elements, "colloquialisms" that have to be "slanged" (...yeah let's pretend that's a verb) into something for an English audience... I mean, I UNDERSTAND why Funimation did the stuff it did in the late 90s early "AUGHTS" (sorry I love saying that), to try to broaden the appeal of a story and dialogue to a Western audience, despite how overall "inaccurate" it appears... The thing is, (I'm an English major, please, forgive me.) nearly all of Japanese conversational speech is akin to the concepts behind English imperative statements only being expanded to "everything." All of the very annoying elements of "well, the subject is obviously 'you,' because I'm in front of you telling YOU to 'put up the eraser,' so I don't need to say 'you'." In casual Japanese, you don't have things like "hello how are you?" you just have "hello." The "how are you" is understood because you're standing in front of them looking at them, it's obvious if they're well, sick, dying, or dead. And the fact that "anime protagonist" is screaming obscenities is immediately understood by all involved to mean uh, the Demon Lord over there, why would he be screaming at Tsuyomi like that? So where the English language is a hot mess of absurd dialectic interpretations of 1200 years smooshing AT. LEAST. 9 languages together (four of which ARE ANGLE-ISH!!!!!!) then I understand easily why people hate the language. It is, however, an extremely expressive, and nuanced, language because of having incorporated so many different languages and time periods into itself. Something that Japanese struggles with, because there aren't exactly fifty seven words that mean "love," ...instead, everything is very contextual to the moment, and to the people speaking. It makes chronicling, writing, and TRANSLATING a nightmare. A longwinded (again, English Major sorry) way of saying hell yes, I agree with you ten thousand percent. I've only picked up about four Hologra elements that I thought were a bit MORE than a stretch of the translation. That and translating "Pekoranglish" at all is a nightmare. And let's not even consider what Miko does. Best wishes etypefan, pleasure to meet you *smiles*

King, Eye, Envy Baby: they're part of the yogurt pie that make up the vocaloid staples you'll see a lot of the Hololive girls cover. Calliope really puts her own mark on these, adding to or interpreting the lyrics.

Calli's Ussewa cover with Milky Queen is another great bop to react to, with functional English subtitles! 3. Gura's Reflect is an emotional breakdown of recognizing that, even as you've grown and matured, your earlier past self is what got you here to today. So it was cool to see Calli do some more singing since as she has said herself that she's a rapper not a singer, not confident in her singing. Like someone else already pointed out, you kinda have to listen to some of the other covers and the original to really get a feel for how unique this particular cover is.
