One of my favorites.. part of the Canterbury scene along with Caravan, and Soft Machine. Andrew Latimer is an extraordinary guitarist, as you can hear. This stuff, I still listen and to, to this day. Enjoy, and by all means check out some more.

I was a 21 years old young guy in September, 1978, when I got to Germany (I'm Guatemalan), and my heroes were Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, among others, and of course Camel. One month later, I read that the band was going to play in Mainz, the town I was back then. Of course I went and that was my first experience with a live prog act and it was something I 'll never forget. They were touring Breathless and played music from Moonmadness, the Snow Goose too. Man, that was pure Joy!!! They have a lot of wonderful music that you have to react to. My suggestions: Moonmadnes, Rain Dances, Breathless and Nude, but all their catalogue is worth to give it a try. Great reactions to great music!! Enjoy!!

A snippet of my mad youth..1984 Southport UK (where I live) Camel the Stationary Traveller tour.❤️ I'm 24, married at that point to neanderthal man for 7 years, I managed to drag him there, I spent THE WHOLE DAY with them while they rehearsed for the concert later on .😊😊😊 I just sat there, silent, watching them, I was blown away Brandon 🙄 Susan Hoover, Andy's then girlfriend had give me the nod to stay, which is a friggin miracle because we "sneaked" into the theatre at 12pm and there they where, setting up, technicians everywhere 😊 later that night after the concert, Camel had hired THE ENTIRE nightclub next door to the theatre for the fans, 😳 entry was your concert ticket, 😳 my now ex husband denied me the chance to go to the party though 😔 and I had to go home broken hearted..🥺 he was very limited and insecure really and I could talk to ANYONE 🤣 it was not a match made in heaven lad, but I got 3 wonderful kids out of it..❤️

Wow, that's so cool! Thanks for sharing that awesome memory. I went to tons of concerts in my days, but never got to be there for a rehearsal/soundcheck. That would be a dream for me. Nice to hear that 3 wonderful priceless children came from the marriage... everything happens for a reason I believe....🙂💙

SUPERB! First time hearing. Had my eyes closed and forgot it was a reaction and was shocked when it paused! 🙄. Parts reminded me of Snarky Puppy and in the beginning, definitely strays into Herbie Hancock territory. Great bass line. Great guitar. Amazing

The bass is perfection, almost, but not quite leading(shades of Chris Squire from Yes), keeping the song on track, allowing the rest of the players to shine. The composition itself may be the star here. My 2nd favorite song from them(Ice is #1). As our host said, a long song that doesn't seem that long, perhaps the best compliment you can give a song

It’s really cool that you’re getting into Camel. Believe it or not it wasn’t until early 2022 that I finally woke up to them, through their debut album. Since then, I’ve acquired three more CDs from Camel including “ Moonmadness “ and without a doubt, Lunar Sea has become my favorite track. It’s yet another one of those hidden gems from the ‘ 70s that you’d only hear on late night radio. But that’s what I love about that decade in particular. I just wish I’d known about Camel back then. And I don’t know this for certain, but there’s a good chance that this spacey song may have been an influence for Porcupine Tree and their “ Moonloop “ composition from The Sky Moves Sideways album. If you haven’t heard that, someday you will definitely want to and then you can compare the 2 two epic, space journeys for yourself. At any rate, thanks for reviewing the incredible Lunar Sea.

Peter Bardon the best keyboard king of his time but a sad day when he left the band it put them back some way 😢saw camel live in 1969/70 something in Reading U.K. for the first live performance of Snow-goose , unforgettable

Back in the 70s Pink Floyd and Camel were my two favorites prog rock bands. I wore out these albums on my turntable.....Their self titled album, Mirage, The Snow Goose and Moonmadness. These first four albums had the best lineup. After these four albums they changed members and they weren't the same in my opinion

I'm so glad you posted this song by Camel. Lunar Sea is such a magical, mystical song that uses instrumentals that provide mental pictures in one's head, yet the song needs no words, just a musical journey! I bought this album when it came out in 1976 and played it loud, driving my neighbors in the apartment below me nutty!

To get the "science-fiction" feelin' of this song, maybe you should see the french film «La planete Sauvage» (Rene Laloux) [and not forget the middle section of «Echoes of Pink Floyd - the guitar ""screaming""]. To get Peter Bardens Mini-Moog solo style, maybe you should listen how Rick Wakeman palyed on Yes and (most of all) on his 3 first solo albuns. To get Andy Latimer Gibson Les Paul solo, maybe you should listen Santana solos (begining of 70's)... All in all, Camel [in my opinion, of corse!] had some influence of The Doors in their «Mirage» LP, but on «Moonmadness» LP, Camel is very very very influenced by JAZZ-ROCK style (Weather Report, Soft Machine, Jean-Luc Ponty, etc etc etc)... Wow! As I was watching you react I was transported back to their concert in Alicante (Spain) in 1979. I was lucky to be there (and old enough, ha, ha). Just a teenager then. I was familiar with their music and was blown away, but especially by this song, which has to be one of my favourite, together with Uneven song, Sasquatch and a few others. Camel are up there with the best.

'Sasquatch' is one of the most uplifting tunes I've ever heard, by Camel or any other band. There's a video of them performing it live in Hollywood, California (1997).

Yeah, the venue was just a 45 minute drive away, so I had no excuse. The British guitar player and singer-songwriter Michael Chapman played before Camel did, and that was very good, too. The sea was on the moon - Moonmadness. No water there. Very dry and spacey. One of my favourite Camel songs. Great review. I am not a huge Pete Bardens fan but he truly shines on this. His main problem is the comparison between his solos and Latimer's. Pete always is second best, IMO.
