Chris wrote this song. He has written a lot of songs for other artists. He has stage fright and feels more comfortable writing songs than performing them.

Chris shared during a post-Grammy Q &A, he wrote the song with his bassist, guitarist, and drummer while they were “backstage jamming” during a recent tour. A backstage throw together song.. just incredible...

This is Chris's best ever. Goosebumps and chills every time. His live performance is almost exactly as the recording, just slight variations. Just awesome. The music, the violins everything is pure heartfelt poetry.

The greatest, and saddest part, about REAL musicians like this... they have to FEEL that in their soul, every performance... draw on inner pain, to produce that emotion. It rips their souls in pieces...

Chris is straight up pure D blues with a little mix of soul, he is so not country. IMHO..... another one he did back in 2013 was "Sometimes I Cry" at The Bing Lounge. He grabs the feels on that one too.

I said it before after living with a blues player for many years.....Chris Stapleton is a fucking BLUESMAN!! By the way it was Walter Trout my lovable fabulous ex.
@weldonbailey10053 жыл бұрын
Ty my man for reacting to this. I watched when it was broadcast during the awards show and had the good sense to record it. Also, chk out the Jennifer Hudson Medley on the same CMA awards show 2021 as Chris accompanies her performance. Chris stays subtle as it's about Jennifer and she effn KILLS IT. Afterwards searched COLD and Jennifer Medley and added to my playlist. The thing about Chris is...as good as his studio releases are...his live performances are even better. The mark of a great artist. No auto tune...just that unique bluesy country rock blend of a raspy voice full of soul that pours out. He has had an usual path as an artist, composer and now acknowledged entertainer. Member of a rock group, bluegrass and others with obvious deep influences of blues and soul. Paid his dues and hit it big a little later than many but it's well deserved. Forgive me if u have already reacted to the following but also to ur CS viewers here, recommend these live Chris performances strongly...Tennesee Whiskey live Austin City Limits performance; I Was Wrong (chris original) live-same venue; Barely Alive (chris original before he was famous)-live acoustic shot by fan cam in some bar/supper club with noisy crowd eating drinking then stfu and listen as his voice takes over; Either Way (chris original)-live performance on the Charlie Rose Show-female country artist recorded it first b4 Chris broke out but his performance of his own song is the tops-lyrics amazing; Sometimes I Cry live at the Bing Lounge-acoustic version (chris original) incredible vocals. I'll pause here sorry so long. Keep up the good work sir. Best wishes for your channel. Subscribed.

I saw Chris live back when he was with the Steeldrivers, then again when he was with the Jompson Brothers. I was mesmerized and KNEW he would be a legend one day. He has a unique voice, can play instruments and writes his own songs...Chris is one of those singers who, once they hit the first note, you KNOW who they are. Thank you for responding.
