This is my absolute favorite song by Counting Crows. My only complaint is that you didn't watch the official video for this song!! Adam is Amazing in this video!! His facial expressions and body language really speaks volumes! Adam Duritz is such a Vibe!!

According to Adam Duritz (lead singer and writer) the song is about leaving people and leaving yourself. The things we are told as children many times don’t mean anything once we are adults and also crush our creativity. “Round here we’re told to stand up straight.” Juxtapose that line with his meeting of a girl named Maria (who seems to be a runaway) who is still full of dreams and intrigues him. “Round here we act just like lions but we sacrifice like lambs, round here she’s slipping through my hands.” Round here are the rules we are supposed to follow but they don’t make us strong like lions, they sacrifice our childhood wonderment, and he’s losing Maria (and all her wonderful peculiarity). Very deep song!! Adam is a poet!! When you get a chance listen to their album August and Everything After. It’s brilliant!!
