This song was born out of the Vietnam War and the military draft system in place, which allowed politicians & the rich, to get their own kids out of having to serve & likely risk dying. The phrase "It ain't me" refers to himself as NOT being one of those fortunate sons. The song was featured in just about every Vietnam war movie and even some video games.

Fogerty has one of the greatest voices in rock and roll. Not because of his range, but because of the character and soul in his voice, yes.

He's talking about how sons of senators and millionaires were able to avoid the draft. Working class and poor families supplied the vast majority of drafted soldiers.

They were raw and basic. The singer/song writer is exceptional. This is a very good energetic song about a serious subject.

The raw anger of these lyrics is intoxicating. The song's before my time, but I can totally envision how it resonated amid the peak of Vietnam, when Americans saw our soldiers dying every night on the TV news.

What a fun reaction. Man, Creedence it is such a fun Rabbit Hole to go down. They really dominated a lot of the scene for a while there. They are literally one of the few bands I can say that I literally like every song on every album that they ever did and I also like their live performances. There really aren't any other bands, maybe the Beatles from that era and a little before, CCR goes in so many different directions but they always have their own sound. Just having watched so many of your reactions, and I know this is a common request as well and it's from their very first album but it was a hit, and it's a cover song, from a very interesting character, but it's called Susie Q. I just have a feeling you would really like it. And it's a fan favorite as well as a hit.

Nobody really sounds like CCR. They've got a bunch of hits, still as easy on the ear as they were back in the 60s. Amazing production from just '68-'72 (or something like that).

Yes and more specifically nobody really sounds like John Fogerty!

They were classified as Bayou rock back in the day. Although they were from California. They are incomparable. I've loved them since 1965. Bad Moon Rising is still one of my favorite tunes by them, but as others have said, they don't have any bad songs. Enjoy!

Watch the video. Short song in this era, because of radio play of the day. Would not play long tunes because of limitations.

There is one person, well after Vietnam where they drafted poor 18 year old kids to go and die,it was Pat Tillman. He walked away from a multi million dollar salary with the Arizona Cardinals and enlisted after the 9/11 attacks,he was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004,he is the only one that comes to mind to my knowledge that actually walked away from multi millions and died for our country,he was a true hero!

@@chuck4tnvols681 Silly me. Of course there are hero exceptions to every rule and value. Trouble is that there just aren't all that many of them.

@@PeterOConnell-pq6io I completely agree,Pat Tillman was only one that came to mind, because of enlisting and leaving the NFL ,there are some other exceptions like you said, few and far between.

I don't think it was the case with this song, but back in the 60's, songs that were released as singles were often edited down to three and a minutes or less in order to get them played on the radio. Songs like Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" got this treatment, and you wouldn't hear the full song unless you bought the album. They didn't have to do that a lot with CCR songs, John Fogerty just wrote short songs. One notable exception was "Heard it Through The Grapevine," but, of course, John didn't write that one.

The video helps for it to make sense when unfamiliar with the time frame they are singing about. CCR is a very notable group of musicians. Not a bad song from them.

Vietnam era, singing about how the poor were drafted while sons of Senators and Millionaires sons always found a way out. Star spangled eyes equal the politicians always egging for war and the profits they make.

All reactors need the lyrics. Videos made for songs are to sell a lousy song to people who are controlled by those who tell them what to enjoy.

One thing 2:53 CCT wasn’t having was fun. Pretty sure Fogarty was incapable of fun or joy in those days. He WAS music and he knew it. He couldn’t get past it.
