dean martin wasnt underrated , everybody knew back then that he was a great singer and movie star. he is only underrated because the younger generation never heard of him.

That's BS. The kids is the late 70s knew who Dean Martin was. We all watched the reruns of his tv show and his movies. And let's not forget the Roasts that we watched in the late 70s. And how about all the great movies that used the great songs. Most of the songs were used in the beginning of the opening credits. And the other songs were also used in the movie itself. So let's not say he was has been. He was a great actor and singer and will never be forgotten.

Dean was one of the best in the group of American singers of Italian descent who fused the crooner style with the bel canto of their homeland. Others in this group included Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Vic Damone... Sinatra, though of Italian heritage was a more mainstream pop singer in the line of Crosby and Russ Columbo. Would it surprise you to know that Elvis Presley was a huge fan of Dean?

In his lengthly career, Dean was a huge star in radio, nightclubs, movies, TV AND music, and he was very popular as a fabulous comedian, a great actor in serious films, a lovable lead in comedies & musicals, & an excellent singer with a very long string of hits. Very, very few entertainers can say all that! And he exceled at all!!! His songs are all wonderful!! Ain't That A Kick In The Head, Sway, & You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You are among my favorites. His signature son, Everybody Loves Somebody, is a gorgeous song, magnificently done. IMPORTANT NOTE TO HARRI - The TV channel TCM aired a new documentary about Dean just late last year called Dean Martin: King Of Cool. The title is a name bestowed upon Dean by none other than Elvis Presley, & the doc was absolutely wonderful, & probably the best way for you to learn what a truly good man Dean was at heart, & how multi-multi-talented he really was. I've been a lifelong fan & that doc made even me appreciate him more than I did. Watch it when you can. You'll be a big fan, too, before it's over.

@@timcarr6401 I appreciate that Tim. Dean over the years recollected many times about his influences especially from growing up in Steubenville. He used to catch Crosby's flicks at the local theater, as did Como and Sinatra. One of those flicks was "The Big Broadcast" '32 with Crosby, Cab Calloway, the Mills Brothers and the Boswell Sisters. Radio shows followed with Crosby and the Mills brothers. When Dean started singing with the Ernie McKay band he purposely imitated Harry Mills style and readily admitted it. Actually he told me so personally. In 1979 he appeared with Sinatra at Boston's Music Hall while raising funds for Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign. After the show they had a private affair at my hotel ballroom. Although not my job lol. I personally ran cocktails for him and had the chance to ask a few questions, like who is your favorite singer. It was Harry.

This definitely a timeless classic and a favourite of mine as a Little Girl. I Posted about Dean Martin and this song on Facebook. My Nephew's Widow said that She was surprised to discover this song on Her Teenage Daughter's Play List. I told Her why I wasn't surprised by My Great Neice's taste in music. That with all of that Auto Tune, it's become Cool to start getting into Older Music. Because Artists actually needed Talent to perform and get a Recording Contract back then. I was Ahead Of My Time as a Teenager of the 90's. My Mum was a 40's Teenager who was into Big Band Swing and the Crooners, who also was an Elvis Fan. Dad was an Old Fashioned Rock And Roll Is A Message From The Devil Type. I grew up hearing Celtic Folk Songs, Classical, Old Country And Western alongside 50's Music as a Little Girl. When I was 13 Mum and I left Him because He was Abusive. My Big Sister moved in with Us, I taught Her about 90's Music and She taught Me about Older Artists. As a result I'm into pretty much every type of Music from Classical to Heavy Metal. Bon Jovi's My All Time Favourite.
