Dean Martin was a part of THE RAT PACK in the 1960's. The group included Dean, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. With their stage act in Vegas, they defined an era of "SOPHISTICATED COOL". And before then, he was one half of the comedy team "LEWIS and MARTIN" with comic-actor JERRY LEWIS. They made some of the funniest movies of the 1950s. Dean Martin, along with his peers, are well worth looking into!

This song was my grandma’s favorite song. It was her 50th wedding anniversary song. The last time I saw her alive she didn’t know me, my mom, my dad, or my sister. She was in the final stages of dementia. I had heard that music is linked to strong memories. As a last ditch effort I played this song on my phone. The second those strings started playing, the clouds in her eyes lifted and she remembered everything. She was singing along to every word. At one point she looked at my dad (her son) and said “Sing with me Kenny!”. He started tearing up. For three and a half minutes we had my grandma back. And then it ended. The song stopped, the fog in her eyes rolled back in, and she greeted the group of familiar strangers smiling at her. That is my last memory of my grandma and it’s so bittersweet. Edit: thanks for all the kind words. My grandma has been gone for almost a decade and yet I still think of the last time I saw her. Spend time with the people you love, cuz you never know when they’ll leave you.

I watched a documentary about the connections we have in our brain to things that can transcend dementia and alzheimers, and music is definitely one of the main things. Watching them take music from earlier decades into a nursing home had me crying like a baby. God bless you and your family.

Yes, Dean Martin was of Italian heritage as his parents were Italian immigrants and his real name was Dino Crocetti. As child, I used to love watching old movies of him and the late comedian Jerry Lewis, better known as Martin and Lewis. As others have said by the 1960s after he and Lewis went their separate ways, he became part of the rat pack that included other popular singer/actors of that time. He had such a great romantic singing voice, RIP to him and Jerry Lewis, and the other rat pack members. Great reaction.

Love this. Watch the movie Moonstruck with Cher and Nicholas Cage. This song is featured in the movie. Dean is a crooner and actor. He was in movies in the 50's and 60's and was a pretty good actor as well as crooner. He was partners with Jerry Lewis, famous comedian back then, and did movies and night club acts with Jerry. Then one night at dinner, after Dean let his kids see The Beatles in concert, his son Ricci asked his dad if he could make a number one hit. He was one of the biggest stars of all, for many years, as a singer, actor, comic -- an all-around entertainer extraordinaire. Very few performers, to this day, can match Dean's accomplishments with huge record sales, top nightclub act, acclaimed actor with a string of hit movies -- drama, comedy, musicals, & his favorite, westerns -- AND he was the host of one of the most popular TV series (in the history of TV) for nine years ('65-'74). Huge library of songs to choose from & enjoy. His live stuff is very entertaining, but rarely without comedic touches, so it's a great way to see the overall entertainer he was, but listen to the studio records to truly appreciate Dean's marvelous style with a song. Everybody Loves Somebody is his signature song, & it's a beauty!! Ain't That A Kick In The Head is one of my favorites. Sway & An Evening In Roma are also GREAT!!! Dean Martin was once a boxer when he was 15, he called himself 'kid crochet', he also had a variety show back in the 70's, he was an actor and did comedy work with Jerry Lewis, they were a comedy duo. I always liked his songs "Everybody Loves Somebody" and "Welcome To My World". I can't remember the year he passed away, but I definitely remember the day, it was Christmas day, of all days, it had to be Christmas day, so very sad, he was a great talent and well loved.

I could listen to him sing Italian all day. Dean only speak Italian up until he went to school, so he was bought up as Italian/American early on. He always was self-conscious of his English early on. He drop out of school early on. He did everything from deal cards in a backroom set up when gambling was illegal to being a amateur boxer. He would say out of his fight he only won one. He got with a band as a singer making very little. Some way ong he meant Frank Sinatra, one time when Frank (also Italian) was sick he was asked to cover for him. That was about the time he 1st meant Jerry. And as the saying go the rest is history.ß

I know I keep posting about Dean Martin video I find on KZbin. I just found the sweetest video of his. It help f dispel the rumor that he was just out for the lady's. People don't realized he felt his 1st job was to be a father to his 7 kids. Then he adopted another when married his 3rd wife and she had a daughter. What I found tonight was entitled... Dean Martin ...Brahm's Lullaby, there are some family pictures with him and his kids.
