In my not very humble opinion, this is one of the top five live rock performances ever recorded. I've been listening to this for decades, and it still give me chills. The power of the guitars balanced against Terry's drumming. Never any better, anywhere. My brother was a guitarist. He insisted to the day he passed that Mark was doing things in this performance that were not physically possible.

otrame 1 Just caught your comment a year after you made it. I agree, this performance of Sultans of Swing ranks up there with Pink Floyd's Pulse concert of '94 and Gilmore's guitar solo during the masterpiece Comfortably Numb. Both of these I've been listening to for years, and I still get chills everytime. The feeling is very close to orgasm - I hope that isn't offensive, but it's the only way I can describe it. Your brother was right, Knopfler's guitar work in this instance bordered on the 'supernatural'.

The Dire Straits rabbit hole is pretty deep. Anything off of the Brothers in Arms album would be worth a listen, especially Brothers in Arms and Man's Too Strong. Being an amazing guitarist. Mark Knopfler’s guitar skills are so underrated. That said, the sign of a great drummer is someone that can mesh with the guitarist as if it was one instrument.
