Simon and Garfunklel gently tugged our sleeve and warned us about "The Sound of Silence." Disturbed and David gabbed us by the collar and told us we didn't pay attention. The price is coming soon. An epic performance by an epic artist.....

Many thanks to Simon & Garfunkel, they have a huge catalogue of work and have influenced MANY current artists.....thanks to them for writing and recording this classic first over 50 years ago, warning us to not turn our backs on the world and it's willingness to embrace "SILENCE"........they made it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret this great piece of music......

Here is my take on your take… ❤️ His name is David Draiman, the group is Disturbed. Your volume is fine, that is the sound of silence, which goes with the meaning of the song. Watch again and pay attention to the visual with the words. It’s very impactful. He went from here to here in 2 seconds… which he does multiple times, so so talented. One of, if not the best build up in a song ever! My goose bumps hit about a minute earlier, no matter how many times I hear it. Your stuttering for words is how I felt when I first heard it and I enjoyed your appreciation of his impressive grit/rasp and return to pure tone. I always tell people to listen to the original first and this right after to truly experience what they did with this song. His grandfather was a trained cantor. He chose metal so it took a while for people to understand just how talented he really is.

Singing is not about a great voice and talent. It's about feeling and emotion being communicated by the soul right into the listeners ears. Talent is 10% of the whole thing. This is power because it is from the soul.

I’m not sure if anyone has said this already or not… but I think you need to go back and do this again with a video that will show you the lyrics. Really take in what this song is saying….. Yes his voice is powerful and moving but what he is saying is what really brings the full impact of this song. This is the reason why the video has gotten so many views. The message is so true and heartbreaking and is even more relevant today then it was when he did this. The lyrics are not his of course, but his voice is what did the words the real justice they deserved. I can’t see anyone else doing a better version than Disturbed did on this. My mother who of course knew the original version was left speechless after hearing this version. She too says that Disturbed did the lyrics the justice they always needed.

You get to a point when listening to this song, that it brings a tear to your eyes. Reason for that is because Simon & Garfunkel was the warning, David’s version was the it’s to late cause you all didn’t pay enough attention.

I remember this song, as a kid, I didn't like it. Until this cover. This cover, gives Paul Simon's lyrics the intensity that covey the true meaning of the song. If you have ever lived or worked in Manhattan (NYC), it is a NOISY place. After a while you drown it out to the point that you don't care for others. That is why many say that New Yorkers are "rude", we really aren't we are rushed and overwhelmed. Thanks for your reaction. BTW, when I say "as a kid" I am 62 years "young."

I grew up on this song, (as sung by Simon & Garfunkel). I loved the words, but their voices were so...passive that I felt as if they'd somehow done their own song a disservice. This was a powerful song that no one really "heard" (sure they heard the words, but never really put the mesg together). This song is all about communication. The neon light is the bloob tube (TV). It's technology. (also later mentioned: they bowed and prayed to the neon god they made...again, technology). Even back in the 70's, they saw how it was already starting to interfere in true communication. But also the loss of people's ability to have deep and meaningful conversations. Talking without speaking (empty words), people hearing without listening.... How many times have you had someone repeat themseves because you weren't actually listening to them? People having thoughts and feelings they need to express but don't. (writing music their voices never share). "My words like silent raindrops fell, and echoed in the wells of silence." S&G were trying to give a warning to a generation that was already ignoring their words. This song was MADE for David. This is his song. He gave it the passion and anger that it needed all along.

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were trained Jewish cantors. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it. Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyag4mtaK5rm8k Check these interviews with David... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWxl6qlgKljjqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/baauiXuui550i8U David being interviewed and performing on stage The Vengeful One and Sound of Silence... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKqZhYamq5t1gtU The official video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY The original Simon and Garfunkel version... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHKooaN8irx_nMU Fascinating that Pentatonix chose to cover Disturbed’s version rather than the original... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZW5m4mqpddoa68 One of Disturbed’s classic tunes!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqvhYdmrdyXnNk

I'm 68 years old and I love this song and it was originally a song by Simon and Garfunkel back in 1960 and they were like folk music and rock back then and then this group is classified as heavy metal most of the time and the actual people from Simon and Garfunkel heard this song and and told them that you made this like we wanted to make it back then you actually had the feelings and the emotions in it like we wanted back then but they didn't have the the ability and they weren't allowed to do that kind of stuff back and they said this is your song now even the original people that did it same exact lyrics and I watch the video in the back too and I get what it says that it's about something about censorship in a way you know that they came in and started taking stuff away like I can say you know I've watched a lot of react so I'll be using some some things they said also you know where they have you know trying to stifle creation time just tireful happiness trying to keep the the thousands of people on the other Island over there that has nothing you know under control and all the musical instruments music and everything was on this other island or whatever bad shape and so they went over there and collected some and put it in a boat with bringing it back to the other people on the other side the Sound of Silence was somebody stopping the music with somebody stopping the protest it was it was it was protesting back then too the best song the first time I heard it you know like I think about a year ago when I stumbled upon it it made me cry a song had never made me cry before and every time I heard it ever since it does and I've heard it like 50 times since last night until today cuz all I've been doing is watching React videos if it's the same exact music video and listening to their critique of it and everything because even back with the old song I've kept trying to figure out what it meant cuz we didn't get to hear the lyrics cuz you know we couldn't find the lyrics unless you know you would have had the album cover and they wrote it on the album cover or something like that you know you couldn't look them up there ain't no terminology existed back then. And no one knows exactly what this song means and people been trying to figure it out and coming up with and I like this version the best there's also a live version by the same guy but it's not as good because it's not in the studio and so it's opened by you know and stuff it was on something like Conan or something like that but this this one has more power to it and you get to see the video and the video matters originally put it out as a warning song about something back then about you know the censorship going to take away all your your music and your happiness and your individuality and stuff like that make you all the same clone and listen to the same time and listen to the same you listen to the same everything that are exactly like everybody else stamped out with a cookie cutter for poop that's part of what I think it was about in a warning you about them taking everything from you that makes you
