My favorite female singer of all time. Dusty had the perfect name for her voice. Sultry with a little grit and lushness yet she could point that voice of hers like a Motown queen. Aretha Franklin admired her. That says alot. The entire "Dusty In Memphis" is one of the greatest albums of all time. One night just turn the lights out and close your eyes and listen to thr entire album.

Dusty was one of the greatest singers ever. Big fan of her since mid 60s. She shows her range in You don't have to Say you Love Me, I only Wanna be with You and Wishing and Hoping. Appreciate how respectful you both are to artists, commendable! Keep up the good work.

Elvis's backup singers, The Sweet Inspirations, sang the background vocals on the studio version of this song. They always sounded great. And so does Dusty. Another big hit for her that you might want to check out is "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". Beautiful.💙☮

@@Mark-iv7np Yes, just yesterday I watched this fairly recent interview with Estelle Brown of the Sweet Inspirations. Here it is if you're interested... kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3TXoX-bndR0iMk The actual interview starts about 4 minutes in. Mentions of several artists they worked with are sprinkled throughout the rest of the video. I was surprised at some that they worked with (mostly in the studio), especially Jimi Hendrix (I was lucky enough to see him in concert when I was a kid, 3 months before he died). I saw Elvis in concert twice, in '73 & '74. The Sweet Inspirations were an important part of the show. Their voices were beautiful, could give you goosebumps. And Elvis's interaction with them was really cute & funny. I'm glad Ms. Brown is still out there singing, or at least was at the time this video was made.💙☮

This song was originally offered to Aretha. She declined but recorded it later but nobody does it better than Dusty. Aretha thought it would disrespect her father.

My Mother married the Son of a Preacher Man in 1966; and then they had me a year later ❤️; Yep, Grandpa was a Reverend 🙏. I have loved this song ever since I heard it in Pulp Fiction; such soul! And to your point; Dad was a smart, good man, but cool as they come 😎. His brother, my Uncle, who I loved very much, was a criminal, but man was he the fun one at Christmas 😂

Been a fan of Dusty's since the early 60s in England with the single slightly guilty exception of the cover of 'Spanish Harlem' by the Springfields, a band which also included her brother, which knocked a frankly superior version off the BBC, a common enough occurence back then. CORRECTION!! Apparently, The Springfields didn't cover 'Spanish Harlem', Cliff Richard, another English pop idol did, in 1962, so it must've been his version that knocked Ben E. King's '61 original off British radio. I was 5, maybe 6, okay?! It was King's first solo single after leaving the Drifters, and was one of the first written by famed producer Phil Spector, with lyricist Jerry Leiber of hit songwriting team Leiber and Stoller. They'd hired Spector as an assistant, as a favour, he turned up early to work on the song, which Leiber had as an idea kicking around awhile already, and by the time Stoller showed up, it was done. This is one you guys should definitely do. You won't regret it. A fave of mine to this day.
