This is one of the few great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). She had a lot of hits such as "I Only Want to Be with You", "I'll Try Anything", "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", "Wishin' and Hopin' ", "The Look of Love", "The Windmills of Your Mind" & many more.

The Motown tour chose Dusty as their hostess and co-star when they did a TV special in London in the 1960's - they classed her as an ally and an equal
@Russ_Keith3 жыл бұрын
That Motown special was Dusty's idea. She had met some of them when she on the bill with them in New York. She hosted the show Ready, Steady Go from time to time and virtually badgered her manager who was the show's producer into taking the show over for that Motown Special while they were touring Britain. They credited her for a lot of the success of that tour.

Love your reaction videos. Dusty was a legend, a true great and a total professional, both in the studio and as a live performer. A gay icon (and a lesbian, herself) she was arguably Britain's first great female soul singer, although she could sing in a variety of styles adding unique touches to the songs she sang. There is a story, whether true, or not, that audiences hearing her, for the first time on the radio, in the U.S. assumed that she was black. She was a massive Motown fan and championed Motown artists when they came to the U.K. and had them appear and performed with her,on a TV special and was a great friend of Martha Reeves. She also refused to perform in Apartheid South Africa. She lived quite a troubled life, suffering from alcohol addition and overcoming it and later succumbing to cancer. Of her many hits, two of the most epic numbers to check out are: "Goin' Back" (written by Goffin/King) and "I Close My Eyes and Count To Ten!". But, for me also, some of her later stuff, is of note. Not long before she died, she performed flawlessly on the Jools Holland show (with Alison Moyet and Sinead O'Connor on backing vocals) This is a real gem of a performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqWunqZmbqiJgNk

The song was constructed in the style of Gospel.. repeated "yes he was" rising in tone and intensity alternating with the background singers (choir). Ray Charles was famous for bringing it to wider audiences. Little Richard and Others did it too, but most used innuendos and double entendres. Dusty, Ray, and Little Richard just laid it right out there in the open.

Aretha Franklin was in an elevator at a Las Vegas hotel that Dusty Springfield entered. They saw each other and smiled. After a few moments Aretha said to Dusty (others heard) -- "Ms. Springfield, you are truly my sister as a singer." What a compliment. And Springfield does have the pipes. A similar compliment was paid by Ray Charles to Joe Cocker. This album was recorded at American Recording Studios in Memphis (& tweaked at Atlantic Studios in NYC) during the same time Elvis worked on his classic LP "From Elvis In Memphis". Both were released in early 1969. Both were huge successes. Some of the same musicians on the Elvis session were used in Dusty's session. The female vocal backup on Dusty's album was The Sweet Inspirations (who also worked with Elvis on previous albums). RIP Dusty.
