Elvin Bishop ( brown suit/sheriff) wrote this song, but didn't think his gravelly voice was suited for it. He had backup singer Mickey Thomas sing it. Mickey was in this band for 3 years.

Awesome classic tune. Elvin Bishop is an awesome guitarist. I am thinking of another amazing musician, George Thorogood. There is a video of George and his band playing the song 'One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer' live. He invited Elvin Bishop on stage to play with them. I highly recommend that you watch that live video, think you might like it!

I think this was a one hit wonder but it was a huge hit back in the day. Wolfman Jack!!!! Dr. Demento’s music hour just came back as a memory for some reason. Used to listen to that when I was a pharmacy technician because the pharmacist knew all things cool music We would work on the weekends and holidays together and just have a freaking blast. (Alice’s restaurant, anyone?) There was also a “bad music hour” that would be broadcasted on the radio at about the same time and I cannot even tell you how much joy that brought me as a teenager If you have never heard the bad music that Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner have created, you should check that shit out! ❤

Around 1992 I was at a Christmas party in an apartment in Walnut Creek, California with Mickey and some band members from an old San Francisco bay area band called Pacific Brass & Electric. They would shortly after get a judge ruling to use the Starship name. Mickey is a small man but his voice is powerful. Without amplification he sang over all the guys in the band.

I learn something new every day. Didn't know the singer's name and certainly didn't know he joined up with Jefferson Starship on one of my favs by them, Jane. At some point you have to see Elvin team up with George Thorogood for a live performance of, One Bourbon, One Scotch, One beer. One of the most epic dual guitar jams of the century. You'll LOVE his band too!! I know you're gonna tell how locked tight they are, bc they are. Amazing live performance. And George is no joke on that guitar either. He IS a bad man - right to the bone. 😂😂

Oh yeah this was the next logical step after Jefferson Starship's "Jane". Micky's vocals are out of this world. Yes, Mickey is singing. Elvin is in the tan suit with the sheriff's badge & red guitar. Adding: since I don't see where anyone else has answered, Mickey was in Elvin's band as a backup singer. Elvin asked him to do lead vocals on this song. The lady singing with Mickey is named Reni Slais. I 'think' she was also a backup singer in Elvin's band.

Great song! There's an unfortunate story attached to it... It was written for a lovely lady Bishop was married to. They eventually divorced, and years later she and their daughter were murdered. There's an episode of one of the true crime shows that tells the story. I want to say "Forensic Files" but I don't really remember exactly. It was a crazy story and very sad.

Elvin is still going strong at 81, playing shows when he feels like it. I had the chance to see him and his guys The Big Fun Trio (of which he's 1) perform last year at Rancho Nicasio, a roadhouse turned venue in the countryside north of San Francisco, not far from where Elvin and his cohort in this performance both live. He's still got it. This video I'm linking to is from October 2019, when he performed my favorite song of his, "What The Hell Is Going On?", accompanied by his old buddy Charlie Musselwhite (who's 80 himself) on harmonica. Listen to the lyrics he wrote. They're even more pertinent today than they were then. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqTJhpuXqsmarLs

I could easily be mistaken, but the guitar player with the cowboy hat looks a lot like Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers Band. I once met Dicky, and he was this tiny little thing. He came up to about my chin, and I'm not tall! Dicky usually performed wearing a cowboy hat.
