Dre was one of the OG's of rap back in the late 80s early 90s. He got big and stepped back from rapping himself for a while and focused on his record label. He got accused of going soft and being irrelevant, old news basically. This song was a response to his critics. Basically one big "F you" to the people that forgot how he was one of the original architects of rap and hip hop's rise to the top
@albertbravo17164 жыл бұрын
Not even close to an OG or an original architect of hip hop at all. He came out over a decade after the real OGs from NYC.
@toomanyadds4 жыл бұрын
@@albertbravo1716 no, the type of rap you're going on about was all about dance hall and live turn table events and maybe......maybe one local radio station who occasionally played hip-hop. NWA, the groups that formed after their breakup, and the franchising the industry into what became rap and hiphop of the 90s and 20 years after.....then yes OGs. No they didn't invite rap, but they did do EVERYTHING else.
@albertbravo17164 жыл бұрын
@@toomanyadds you have no idea what you're talking about at all. I'm from the Bronx, there was hip hop on the radio way before NWA. Where do you think they got the idea to rap? They did nothing but add their own style to what had been out for over a decade.
@toomanyadds4 жыл бұрын
@@albertbravo1716 Thats cute... Before Rapper's Delight, there was NO rap in the mainstream, shit there wasn't even a "mainstream" to speak of. In fact when Sugarhill records were hunting for "rappers" non of the DJ or MCs wanted in as the belief was that you couldn't make rap for radio. NWA and other artists like Ice T, MC Hammer, and the Digital Underground all laid the ground work of making a mainstream of hip hop and rap. So yes he is an OG, did he invent rap? No, but your claim at a minimum is ignorant and disrespectful. If anything you're exposing yourself as either bias to the history of hip hop and or having no knowledge of a culture that has some of it's deepest roots in your home town.

@@toomanyadds again, wrong. You have no idea what you're talking about and it's extremely obvious. Eminem’s first time in Dre’s studio after he met Dre he sat there for a minute or two when Dre started playing this beat. And all of a sudden Eminem says “now a day everybody wanna talk like they got something to say but nothing comes out..” and raps the chorus. And Dre was like nah stop go INTO the booth and record that shit 😂😂❤️ but like others said Eminem wrote his verse

It breaks my heart that the younger generations aren’t being exposed to this music. I’m 50 and still know every word to this song. There’s so much more for y’all to discover. Enjoy your journey!!
@ronrobbins27374 жыл бұрын
Yes, this “music“ is so musical and lyrically such a fine influence on our young people, not to mention what stellar role- models the rap community provides.
@elsac17394 жыл бұрын
Ron Robbins it’s okay for you not to agree with my opinion. It’s unnecessary for you to make sarcastic comments, but you are free to do so. It’s unfortunate that you are apparently one of those people who thinks that music is something that people base their real lives on. Are you one of those people who thinks Christmas songs have hidden misogyny and are traumatizing to children? Relax, order yourself a pumpkin spice latte. Life’s too short to be uptight about these things.
@ronrobbins27374 жыл бұрын
@@elsac1739 What's actually "heartbreaking" about this is how many young people (like these nice kids) think it's okay and normal to hear obscene lyrics produced by so-called "musical artists" who no longer sing, play instruments, or read/write music, whose reputations are often based on prison-experience and how many times they've been shot, whose main cause of death statistically, is murder. Not to mention the common themes of explicit sex/drugs/violence with all the typical racist & sexist terminology. It's pathetic how for purely financial reasons this stuff is even allowed to be played online these days. Just an opinion, is that still allowed?
@elsac17394 жыл бұрын
Ron Robbins gee, it’s funny how you ask me if opinions are still allowed, yet here you are attacking MY opinion. The hypocrisy of your statement is laughable. Enjoy yourself though, you do not affect me or my OPINION.

Awwwwwww! Yasssssd! My brother (6’6 meathead, “which way to the gym?” white boy” used to walk into whatever bar had karaoke, and put a slip in, they’d call his name, and he’d get up there, grab the 🎤, and walk the entire bar and do that entire song! He knew every word. Didn’t need the screens and words to follow. Didn’t matter if it was an older crowd, or a country bar...didn’t matter. He’d have the entire bar’s attention, and people would be dancing and singing and clapping along. That was him man! He was always the life of the party! Everyone that met him instantly loved him! His energy was contagious, and to me, he was invincible! Unfortunately, he died way too young at the age of 34. Wish I could upload the pic I have of him at a bar in Naples on the mic doing this song! Thanks @Kenny Phillips for requesting that and giving me a few walks down memory lane! He would love these guys and their reactions!

Dre is one of the founding members of NWA, they made the movie Straight out of Compton based on their fairly short-lived success, which led on to the solo careers of Dr. Dre, Easy E and Ice Cube. Not sure if it is family friendly enough to react to any of the songs off of Straight Out of Compton, but it was a bad ass album and the title track was killer!
