Oh yes! Kai Hansen! One of my personal trinety of metal! One of my most prized possession is a EP of the song Heaven can wait from Gamma Ray's first album, Heading for Tomorrow, signed by what was the whole band back then but only Kai is still in the band. At the moment Gamma Ray are on hiatus (kind of, sort of) because Kai are back in Helloween (Kind of, sort of) Power metal is very much my favorite genre of Metal, for reasons that you seem to experience in the video! Keep on keepin on!

HEY! I knew you'd love them! :) Gamma Ray HAVE been around for quite a while, Kai Hansen (lead vocals and guitar) founded the band in 1988/89. Before that he played guitar in Helloween, another great German Powermetal band. I saw them Live on Summerbreeze Festival 2 years back. It was actually a nice surprise since I wasn't even aware they played there and they were one of the first metal bands I loved many years ago. This was my first time seeing them live so it was a blast :) Kai is such a great dude, too. Pretty much always smiling. You always feel he has genuine fun on stage :) There is a recording from a German TV show of a gig in Berlin (I think) where Gamma Ray headlined and the other bands were Crucified Barabara and Bullet (both from Sweden). Really great stuff!

Most people don't know they like power metal until they hear it. Those drums are infectious. The vocalist here is one of the originators of the style, along with his Helloween bandmates back in 1984. He (Kai Hansen) quit Helloween and started Gamma Ray in 1990. Ironically Gamma Ray is on a long hiatus now because Kai is currently reunited with Helloween.

You say it reminded you of Freedom Call well Gamma Ray's drummer at the time was Dan Zimmerman who founded Freedom Call. But yeah if you want to check out more power metal there's Helloween (classic band), Iron Savior, Kamelot, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica.

Kai Hansen is the Grandfather of Power Metal, if it wasn't for Helloween, Power Metal would not exist. Gamma Ray was his 2nd band after leaving Helloween, now Gamma Ray is 30 years old and still running strong.

They've been around forever. Kai Hansen started with Helloween who was one of the founders of European power metal in the 80s and he formed this band in 1989 after leaving Helloween. Helloween and Gamma Ray are both great bands.

Old comment ik but I've been a huge fan since childhood. It seems like a lot of people dismiss Powerplant but it might be my favorite for Gamma Ray. A lot of the other albums have some kind of atmospheric twist where I think this one is pure power metal energy, a power plant of heavy metal, if you would.

This was the first Gamma Ray track I ever heard, it's incredible. If you ever need to try out new headphones/speakers, this is a track to do that on. You get the full range of tones and guitar effects and get to listen to an awesome song multiple times :D I feel like this is the direction Queen would have gone had Freddie Mercury still been around.

Helloween basically invented power metal. it wa clear when Kai left who the creative force was. Gamma Ray are brilliant, one of the best power metal bands around. Kai is an amazing songwriter and guitarist, Gamma Rays epic songs like Armageddon are such a magical experience. As a band they should be much more well known than they are. Helloween, Gammaray,Blind Guardian,Rage, Nightwish, Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, After Forever, Nocturnal Rites, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Silent Force, Dreamtale, Rammstein, Rhaosody, Pink Cream 69, Heavens Gate, Edguy.... and you may go on and on.... I bought Hundreds! Of cds. I went to the stores each week and bought 5 or 10... It was madness! If you add the old and classic ones published before the 90s.... Judas Priest,Black Sabbath, Warlock, Maiden, Motorhead.... Yuo had to sell your house to buy all those masterpieces! And what about thrash metal? Kreator, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Testamet, Sodom , Destruction, Anthrax, Death Angel, Exodus, Overkill... Is crazy man...too crazy... And now, go and listen to the radio crap... And listen which kind of artist fill the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.... Tones of SHIT! We thank God for give us Heavy Metal.

You know Freedom Call, but not Gamma Ray??? I am pretty sure, some bandmembers of Freedom Call were brought to Metal by Gamma Ray. They were the first Metalband I ever saw live back in 1995. ...
