You're right about Gojira's "middle ground." The albums From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh are full of brutal face melters, blast beats, nasty grooves. But with L'Enfant Sauvage and especially Magma, their last two albums, they spent more time exploring atmosphere and melody. You won't find anything as heavy as "The Art of Dying" on L'Enfant or Magma, but, on the flipside, you won't find anything as raw and poetic as "The Gift of Guilt," "Only Pain," or "Pray" in their earlier albums. Their early albums are musically heavy; the later albums are emotionally heavy.

The biggest things about Gojira are heaviness, emotions, atmosphere, musicianship... They are the best band on the planet right now. They are not perfect because no one is, but they are very special but in their very own way close to perfection. I can’t say enough praise for this band, wich is another aspect, because just look at the comments on their live video from the Pol'and Rock festival... you‘ll find so much love and appreciation for them. Of course there always be idiots but the bigger part of their fans are very nice

The way I look at it this track's title says it all. We live in a time where it's almost frowned upon to feel guilty and where you are encouraged to seek a path for yourself in spite of it. Yet, guilt can be a useful tool as well. It shows us when we stray to far from the people and values we hold dear, but only if it is consulted in moderation. Most youth (me included) seek to spite guilt for the sake of it, but there is wisdom in knowing when something does not feel good or right. We must learn to not repress and drown out guilt but listen to what it has to teach us while also not listening to it too often. That way after learning from it what we need/want, we can leave it behind and truely let the guilt we carry go!

Glad you liked it,mate! Tell me this- have you heard of Primordial??? They are an acclaimed metal band that delve into blackened metal, doom metal and a cool mix of Celtic influences. Their songs deal with everything from Irish mythology, and history, be it The Famine, The War of Independence. And, their Dubs! They're from Skerries, so I dunno if thats up, or across the roads from ya, but they've really helped put Ireland on the Metal map over the last 15 years. Check out "The Coffin Ships".

I think you'd love Rivers of Nihil - "Where Owls Know My Name" The track is beautiful, savage, lyrically deep, and the album as a whole is a masterpiece. It's the third album in a 4 part series, and it focuses on telling the story of an immortal entity, who is the sole sentient being left on the planet after the apocalypse. It deals with themes of isolation, depression, and purpose. Definitely influenced by Pink Floyd as well. Thanks for the videos! Comin' at you from Canada

Gojira is amazing I think they're live performances are better then studio. You'll gave to check out this song live from London. Another song by them to look at is 100% L'enfant Sauvage. Truely never a let down.

Drew, I see that you are creeping into the longer side of metal and more of the obscure side as well. May I suggest an Australian band called Ne Obliviscarus. I think you'll get a kick out of it.
