Helly is an amazing drummer! Check out her channel too! Melissa's vocals are sooo good! Alice now plays bass for Infected Rain and left Hand of Juno early this year, and her joining IR is how I found HoJ. They now have a new bass player, and a guitar player. As for another song to check by them: 'Hug My Death' or 'Psychotic Banana'.

It's mid-life crisis mode when seen at a Brit-pop 90's themed disco party on social welfare in a council estate at 2am. Dad's army on tour hahaha. 160 million people watch Eurovision and the UK often comes close to last in the finals 🤣 Brit-pop was uniquely British for several reasons, which contributed to it's distinct identity and cultural significance during the 1990's. Cultural References: Brit-pop bands often drew on British history, literature, and everyday life. Lyrics frequently referenced British culture, geography, and social issues, making them resonate with a domestic audience. Bands like Oasis and Blur incorporated elements of British identity into their music, reflecting the local experience. Musical Influences: Brit-pop was heavily influenced by earlier British music styles, particularly 1960's bands like The Beatles and The Kinks. This lineage created a sound that was distinctly British, characterized by catchy melodies, guitar-driven instrumentation, and a focus on songwriting. Brit-pop emerged as a reaction to the dominance of American grunge and alternative rock in the early 1990's. Bands like Oasis and Blur positioned themselves as champions of British music, promoting a sense of national pride and identity in contrast to the American influences that had been prevalent. Fashion and Aesthetics: The Brit-pop movement was also marked by a distinctive fashion sense, often involving a blend of working-class styles and mod influences. Bands and fans embraced a look that celebrated British subcultures, including parka jackets, Doc Martens, and tailored suits. Media and Marketing: The British music press played a pivotal role in the rise of Brit-pop, with publications like BBC and MTV championing the movement. The media's focus on the "Battle of Brit-pop" between bands like Blur and Oasis helped to create a sense of rivalry and excitement, further solidifying the genre's British identity. Social Commentary: Many Brit-pop songs tackled issues relevant to British society, such as class struggles, regional identities, and the complexities of modern life in the UK. This focus on social commentary provided a relatable context that resonated with listeners. In summary, Brit-pop was uniquely British due to its deep roots in local culture, music history, and social commentary, combined with a conscious effort to differentiate itself from musical trends. Musical Evolution: By the late 1990's, musical tastes began to shift. The rise of electronic music and genres like garage rock and pop-punk started to overshadow the guitar-driven sound of Brit-pop. Bands like Radiohead also moved towards more experimental sounds, which influenced the direction of popular music. Commercial Saturation: As Brit-pop became mainstream, the market became saturated with similar-sounding bands. This oversaturation led to a decline in originality and interest among listeners, making the genre feel stale. Cultural Shifts: The cultural landscape in the UK began to change, moving away from the themes of working-class life and nostalgia for the 1960's that characterized much of Brit-pop. The emergence of new cultural movements and the influence of globalization also shifted the focus of music fans. Key Releases: As Brit-pop bands began to release albums that were less well-received (for example, Blur's The Great Escape and Oasis's Be Here Now), this contributed to the perception that the genre was in decline. The quality of music is crucial in maintaining a genre's popularity. Impact of Other Genres: The rise of alternative rock, nu-metal, and pop-punk bands in the late 1990's, such as Linkin Park and Blink-182, drew attention away from Brit-pop. These genres appealed to younger audiences and offered a different sound and attitude.
