Home Free is what happens when you have 5 tenors, 2 basses, 5 beat boxers, and 5 exceptionally talented and caring men who are passionate about their music. I think it's awesome that you got so into the music you forgot you were reacting. That is the highest form of flattery. Loved the reaction, thank you!

This was done to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original release. Our guys and Mr McLean won 3 Telly Awards for this video! They also were invited to attend and perform in Hollywood Ca at the presentation of Mr McLean being given a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. HF performed this song with all of the Press and Hollywood officials present. When Tim is singing lead Adam "Chance" sings bass! This video was made during Quarantine. Adam Rupp did the percussions continually for 8 mins non stop, how impressive is that? Very! Home Free is Amazing!

Home Free has also collaborated with the Oak Ridge Boys and Kenny Rogers. They were supposed to work with Dolly Parton, but that got put on hold because of the Pandemic. The reason they perform with the Original Artists is because they're ASKED to. Just the same as being invited to sing at the Grand Old Opry -- SEVERAL times (an Invitation Only venue) -- they're just that good!!

Adam Rupp does his job well...you forget that it's not a drum kit. I think he takes a weird sense of pride in the fact that people forget what he is doing. Adam Chance was bass in his old group and was phenomenal in that role. He picks up when Tim is doing lead and it is so seamless...you have to listen close to pick it up. Great reaction! Love that you forgot we were here!! Shows how Home Free can pull you in and transport your mind. I usually notice something new with every listen.

This won't be the last time you forget that there aren't any instruments beyond their voices. Nor will it be the last time you find yourself along for the ride and getting completely immersed in the video and verse. I've known about these guys since the Sing Off, but have really, seriously followed them during the pandemic, like many others. And I still get lost in their performances! It's a beautiful thing! And definitely a compliment of the highest level. I just found your channel and I'm enjoying watching your journey into the depths of the Home Free rabbit hole! ❤

Great reaction! For more of Rob,watch his lead on “End of the Road”…he digs deep into his soul. Also, “Dreamer” and “Blue Ain’t You Color”. For a long time I told myself that I have no favorites, but I have to admit that the ones who can pull me into a song are Rob and Chance…and when the 2 of harmonize, it’s phenomenal. To hear more Chance, check out “I Can’t Outrun You “. His lead is beautiful, as is the whole arrangement. Chance also directed the video. And HF dropped a new video, a cover of Dire Straits “Brothers In Arms”. Tim and Chance are front and center on it. When I got the album this is on(Land of the Free) it quickly became one of my favorites on it. You might also want to check out an Adam Rupp drum solo…concert footage has been posted. He is amazing.

Don still sounds damn good on this; his voice standing the test of time where others haven't been so lucky. Don had cut and released "American Pie" and never done a remake through it's history... it's remained the same all these yrs; unchanged, remarkable, steady. After 50 yrs, he chose to include Home Free for the anniversary remake!!!! That's sayin' something right there!!!! Yes, it is long -- but it passes so fast. No worries!

Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean just received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them.

ah, this song is a great choice for showcasing each of the guys' leads! tim and austin had the chance to talk to don, it's somewhere in their channel. if you're interested in seeing to adam chance go all out, check out their fairly recent cover of "born in the usa", one of the few times they use an instrument (just an acoustic guitar to complement it, but adam still pretty much covers most of the "instrumental" sound)

I applaud the guys for recognizing that Born In The USA needed the driving guitar. It just didn't sound right without it. Home Free knows what they can do and they also know what doesn't work. The fact that they leave their egos at the door shows in their music.

Mr. Incrediible, Great review Sir. Do not apologize for getting lost in the song and Jamming!. LOL. Remember, a picture is worth a Thousand words! You spoke volumes in that segment... Welcome to being a true Home Fry ! Don McClean stated that "these guys reminded him a lot of the Jordanaires" whom he worked with many years ago. According to my research (lol), Mr. McLean has only collaborated on this song only once before this, on a Live version with Garth Brooks. His manager suggested that he work with the boys for the 50th anniversary of the song, and afterword stated that Home Free "did a Tremendous job" !! Big accolade's from a gifted musician. As others have commented, Home Free sang this song for him at his Walk of Fame Star ceremony. Keep on your journey down this rabbit hole Sir, I hope it is helping you build your channel. Suggestions for future videos would include "Amazing Grace" , "How Great Thou Art" and the performance with Lee Greenwood of "Proud to be a American", brace yourself, they will hit you hard in the "Feels". Looking forward to the next reaction. Peace Brother !!

Home Free has two tenors (Austin and Rob) and two bass (Tim and Chance), all with incredible ranges. Chance sang bass in the groups he was in before joining Home Free. This allows Tim to switch to lead more often without losing the bass although their styles are different. Adam Rupp, with his sounds, ranges from bass to high tenor. He usually sings the three or four part when they switch to five part harmony, as they did at the end of this song.

Well, I'm 75 and when I hear this song it makes me happy sad and angry. The real music died almost all at once. The Pink Carnation I believe is reference to Mart Robins. This song is loaded with history. The Father Son and Holy Ghost leaving for the Coast, are 3 real people. Maybe someday someone will write down who all was mentioned in this song. I use to know but time has washed away a lot.

Much as I love the original, this Home Free version is American pie for our time. (Adam) Chance (baritone/base) started the song Austin (high tenor … I’d say high tenor vs bearded tenor, same as a lyrical soprano … a richer tembre) Rob the bearded tenor - rich tenor Tim - base w a higher register and a subterranean subwoofer register Adam - overhuman beatboxerbot, and please give the poor guy oxygene during this song!

Thank you so much for acknowledging Don's complicated life. I live in the town in Maine where he lived with his family and he has been convicted of domestic violence. And he threatened and harassed his ex-wife throughout the trial. On a personal level he is odious. And I adore Home Free and this version of the song is gold. I struggle with the question of how to react to the art of people who I feel are despicable people but genuine artists. How do you somehow acknowledge both realities? Argh.

Thank you for being so kind and thank you for hanging out!

Excellent reaction to a stellar collab. Btw, you're not the first to forget that the "drums" are Adam, I have to remind myself nearly every time. About the bottom, the bass is always either Tim or Chance or both. This was one of many examples of those two bass beasts seamlessly tag-teaming the low end. Oh and hey, no offense but the next time you say the word "epitome" you might wanna pronounce it "e-PIT-o-me". Keep up the good work Mr. I.

Hey, Fog Dog. I’m glad I’m not alone! I can’t believe how bad I pronounced it. Lmaoo! My bad.

I love watching your reactions because you explain the meaning behind the songs. Such a perfect song, and the harmonies, as usual, are point on.

Yes I got that far. It's a crime to not listen to the whole song XD. Taking on an iconic song such as this is a testament to their talent. I didn't feel anything was lacking from the original. If you want to know who was doing the bass line while Tim was singing do 'Mayday'.
