It's been said : In peacetime, sons bury their fathers, but in wartime, fathers bury their sons. War upsets the natural balance. Love Homefrees version of this song. Tim and Chances voice were outstandingly beautiful. Thanks for your thoughtful reaction.

I'm pushing 70 and remember and purchased the vinyl when it was released. It was understandable but less so without hearing Mark's explanation. When we returned from Vietnam, which was a real waste, including my cousin who drove his troop carrier over a tank mine. Thankfully I was able to attend his funeral. Mark is extremely talented. For us in the US, HF has made the subject matter very plain. Mark's guitar playing is extraordinary, however, to me the long solos somewhat mask the lyrics and their meaning. One reactor stated he would have preferred Tim sing it similar to "My Maria" he did with Austin. That would have ruined it, in my opinion. In the song, Tim is a dying soldier saying farewell to his comrades and questioning the logic of war. Maintaining a deep but airy low volume sound reminds me of death. I ran a government cemetery for 16yrs before I retired. This hit me HARD.

I forgot what I intended to say!? (I go into a room, can't remember why I'm there, walk out and realize it was the restroom.) If Mark Knopfler did a collaboration like Don McLean, Alabama, The Oak Ridge Boys, Lee Greenwood, and others, that would be surely something.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, intermenater. I haven't heard My Maria yet, so I'll have to wait to understand whether it would have ruined it or not. To me their harmonies make up for the missing guitar..... This was so hauntingly beautiful. I have only been listening to Home Free over a year but I listen to then daily now. They have done many songs about bringing everyone together.

The wind noise, of course, is Adam Rupp's contribution to the song, as well as his beautiful tenor singing voice. No drums, no cymbals, just the haunting sound of the wind blowing. Once again his contribution to the percussion of a song is spot on, and enhances the feeling of the great harmonies of the group.

Awesome reaction Mr. Incredible! Thank you! This one is Special! Hits hard in my gut ! Completely broke me down and cried like a baby! Took me a while to recover! It took my breath away and I'm still crying every time I see it. I lost my Daddy before I got to know him. He was a decorated WW2 veteran and your right war is hell on earth! A living nightmare that so many have never awakened from, past and present soldiers with PTSD ( in years past it was referred to as " shell shocked" ) It's horror! I appreciate Home Free for their stand unapologetically on uncomfortable issues and not shying away from their convictions! They don't make waves politically but by their choice of songs it seems they believe in unity, inclusion of all people no matter what our differences are and encouraging us to care for others and spread good will universally! I think you would enjoy " UNDIVIDED " Written by Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line and performed by Hubbard and Tim McGraw " EVERYBODY WALKING THIS LAND " " I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR " Home Free and Peter Hollens Have a great week and God Bless You! Thanks so much for the background on this cover, It prompted me to check out the Dire Straights version. It strikes me that Home Free has turned into a choral requiem. Props to both versions, of course, but I do find Home Free's more emotionally powerful. The Dire Straights version is strikes me as more "I stand up to testify for my brothers." There are those of you who stand on the front lines of this internal Battle For America. I know the lyrics hit you deeply as well. Continue the battle but stay safe. Finally, there are you who are not military, police, firefighters, or EMTs, by your fight is against division. You rise every day to seek better ways to bring unity to our land. God bless you! It is written in the starlight and every line in your palms:. We are fools to wage war on our brothers and everyone is our sibling.

Chance leads in "Heaven" and "Some Girls Do". Rob leads in "Honey I'm Good" and "Blue Ain't Your Color" and "Bless The Broken Road". Austin leads in " When A Man Loves A Woman " and " Crazy". Tim leads in " Your Man" and "Hillbilly Bone". Adam leads them all on every song with his beautiful percussion.

End of the Road is great to see Rob really show some soul! Elvira with The Oakridge Boys is an older one that is nostalgic & awesome. For a some great laughs The Butts Remix is a favorite for many Home Fries! Enjoyed the background information & perspective you add to the reaction!

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

After watching and listening to your reaction, I really hope you'll do more from Home Free! I subbed after this! All the other reactors broke it down and commented way too much (imo). You just let the experience take wherever it did. Bravo! How Great Thou Art is fantastic, but I also think you'd enjoy Man of Constant Sorrow. I'm a fan of both you and Home Free! Going to see them in concert this February.

I am late to this review of "Brothers in Arms" but I appreciate your reaction, especially since you have knowledge of the Dire Straits original. So many reactors have no understanding of the original song or the deep emotional context of the words. If you have any connection to the sacrifice by soldiers throughout history you will be affected by the Home Free version of this song. This hits me hard every time I hear it. Thanks for your reaction.

They are definitely mind blowing! I've been waiting for them to release this one ever since they released their album, Land Of The Free. This song & video is so hauntingly beautiful. I've always loved Knopfler's guitar through this song, so I was very curious to see how HF would handle that. They did not disappoint. So far, you're the only one who noticed the wind. I was really happy to see you pick up on that because I think it adds so much to the overall feel. Great reaction! Thx! Btw: did you read HF's comments in the description on the song?

Thank you for the reaction, absolutely reflected my own except I had the advantage of being alone when I heard it. (No embarrassment for the tears on my cheeks.) if I weren’t a Home Free fan, I would think the last 2 notes were made by a pipe organ, not human voices.

If you sprinkle in some of Russian teen Diana Ankudinova, you'll probably double the pleasure. She has a voice like no other as a dramatic contralto. That is not an exaggeration. A typical starting point for Diana is her cover of "Wicked Game" at 15 years of age. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZvZXneHo8tli7s
