Lee Greenwood wrote this song & asked Home Free to collab with him & he said it was the first time he felt like he could do what he wanted with his own song cuz he knew Home Free could hold their own with the melody...this song actually became very popular after 9/11 & as Americans we are very proud of this song...almost as much as the National Anthem

Yes, Lee Greenwood wrote “God BLess the USA”! He wrote it back when the Vietnam conflict was going on and our nation was torn apart. It was meant to show support for the USA and our military. My husband was a young Marine in that hell hole, we weren’t married at the time. It was a terrible time. ♥️🇺🇸♥️

I believe for most people in my age bracket (62) this song is most recognizable due to the Gulf War (1991). During that time period, this song was played practically non stop, both here and in Kuwait. My younger brother served with the Marine Corp in Kuwait during the Gulf War and he told me the US troops heard this song almost continuously. While most Americans already knew this song, I think it took on a whole new meaning for us in 1991 and there after.

She is excited to serve This Country wherever it may take her.

I LOVE that this song is being played. My 5th great-grandfather fought in what we Americans call the American Revolution. He was captured by the British in the battle of Charleston Bay & held in the bottom of a British Ship, shackled & chained for 9 months. I think of him every time I hear this song. It makes me proud that his suffering bought my freedom.

Mr Taylor, in this country, we just witnessed how your country shows it's loyalty & patriotism, through the passing of your beloved (worldwide) Her Majesty, The Queen. In the US we don't have a central figure to draw us together, but we do have our country, and we do love our USA despite all our infighting....trust me if outside folks tried to do something we rally together to fight the common enemy.

Lee Greenwood wrote this song. The first album it appears on is his 1984 album You've Got a Good Love Comin'. It reached No. 7 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart when originally released in the spring of 1984, and was played at the 1984 Republican National Convention with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance, but the song gained greater prominence during the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991 as a way of boosting morale. As a result of its newfound popularity, Greenwood re-recorded the track for his 1992 album American Patriot. The popularity of the song rose again sharply after the September 11 attacks and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the song was re-released as a single, re-entering the country music charts at No. 16 and peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 2001. A new version of the song was recorded in 2003 and released as "God Bless the U.S.A. 2003." Truly amazing is that Lee was about 77 years old at the time of this recording. His voice is truly amazing especially at this age

It was the Singing Sergeants of the Air Force Band. Lee wrote this song. He is 79 and still kills that song. There is a video on the making of this video that you may be interested in checking out. One thing some people miss is the fly-over sound from the Ruppster at the end. I live on base at NAS Pensacola, Home of Naval Aviation and the Blue Angels so that fly-over is so familiar to me. I love this version of God Bless the USA!

Pensacola has great memories for me. In the early 80's, my wife (before she was my wife) and I were teachers at a Christian school in Georgia. Our teaching staff attended a teacher's conference at Pensacola Christian College the summer of 1983, and while there, I proposed to her on Pensacola Beach. For some strange reason, she said yes! Lol! Years later, 2003-2007, our daughter attended Pensacola Christian College. When we would go visit her, we always went to the naval museum, and we saw the Blue Angels a couple of times. It was all so very awesome and inspiring! Thank you sincerely for your service, and God Bless the USA!

There really are some wonderful voices in that US Air Force group. I can never hear this song without feeling American patriotic pride. We don't need a band because we have Adam who is a one man human drum kit complete with jet fly over sound at the end. He is so talented. Lee Greenwood also sings Between a Rock and a Heartache that HomeFree had released a cover of recently, and Dixie Road which is very good. It's been said that Lee can play the saxophone. I saw several comments about Lee Greenwood being the original singer of this which is true. However I missed seeing any mention of Lee Greenwood writing this song which is also true. The first album this song was in 1984 nearly 40 years ago. My how time flies. I can remember this being played on the radio for a long time, I still here it every once in awhile and it still makes me want to stand up and sing at the top of my lungs. Unfortunately I can only sing when I am alone because I can’t carry a tune.

I love this song. Several years ago I saw a video here Lee Greenwood was asked about his favorite performance of this song. He said he got to share the stage with 4 presidents and 5 First Ladies and when he got to the part “I’ll gladly stand up next to you…” They all stood up with him and 4 jets did a fly over as he finished the song. He said it was one of the most powerful and nerve racking performances he has ever done. I wish there was a video of it.

I was blessed to be at a concert when Lee Greenwood introduced this song ( it was not on the radio yet). Then about 10 years later I was at Ft. Campbell as the troops returned from Somalia. The Governor and a couple of other people have their speeches then Lee Greenwood stepped up to the podium to sing this song! When he finished the song, the families were reunited with their heroes! Still brings tears to my eyes thinking about that morning!

I love Home Free, but Lee Greenwood is a Country Music Legend. I saw him live in Salinas California in 1986 while stationed in the Army out there. He bought 10,000 tickets out of his pocket and donated them to the USO, who, in turned sold them at low cost to us on base and the proceeds went to their charities. He sounds as great today as he did back then.

Lee Greenwood is the writer and original recorder of "God Bless the U.S.A." (1984). This song is so emotional and well-written, that many have suggested that it rivals the actual National Anthem. At the time of this Home Free release, Lee was 77 years old and still belting it out from his soul. He said working with Home Free was a fantastic experience and gave him a chance to perform and hear his own song in a way that he had never imagined.

This is Lee Greenwood's song! He wrote it, recorded it and it's be re- released in several occasions. This version is special because after decades of basically singing it the same way, Lee was able to let others take over the basics and he could add those extra special adlibs! I remember when this song originally came out. And ever since it's been such a patriotic song and I never cease to feel pride in my country when it's played. And when Adam strikes up that military snare, I lose it! He does it in Traveling Soldier too! He just hits that perfect cadence and it brings me to tears every time! So others have already said, this is Lee Greenwoods song, he sang it back in the late 80's. I actually remember going through bootcamp in 1988 and having this song played many times during bootcamp to inspire us. Anyway, I just wanted to add, I heard that Lee was reigned in by the producers when he originally did this song and he had to sing it more tame and straight forward and he was happy to get to do this version were he could let it all hang out. Something more like he wanted to do in the original version. Again, I heard this or read it, don't really remember, so maybe its not even true, but seems like a cool story. =)

Lee Greenwood wrote this song in the 80’s. He sounds great for 75! The Singing Sergeants sounded great too. You shouldn’t have to blur this since it’s Lee’s song (I wouldn’t think). Home Free does another Lee Greenwood song Between a Rock and a Heartache. So good. Good reaction Taylor.🥰

Sitting here with tears coming out of both eyes once again. This group of people do it to me, no matter how many times I watch it. Thank you so much for your review. Just an old Air Force Vet!

Just watched this video. Lee Greenwood originally recorded this right after Iranian terrorists took American hostages from our embassy in Iran. This was back at the end of Jimmy Carter's presidency. At the time, the USA was divided over so many things - pretty much like today. The taking of the hostages brought all of us Americans into a united front to the astonishment of other countries, especially those in middle east where pulling people together without threat of violence at the time was unheard of. Greenwood's song, God Bless the USA, pretty much became our rallying cry and further cemented the people into one angry country. BTW, Greenwood didn't have anyone else singing the song with him. Saw him in concert one time years later. His closing song was God Bless the USA. Awesome!
