INXS ("in excess") has so many big hits. 'Never Tear Us Apart' is probably a good logical next step. But you can't go wrong w/ them, really. They're a solid band. Just pick anything.

A lesser hit I love is "The Stairs" I thought it so cool how he described a relationship happening by passing each other on the stairs. It might have helped that I saw "Rent" right around the same time this came out.

"Need You Tonight" segues seamlessly into the next track on the album, a poem Andrew Farriss wrote and put to music called "Mediate." Both tracks are in the same tempo and based on the same drum machine groove, so they flow together very well. When the band heard how well they stitched together, they decided to segue them.

INXS were huge in Australia and spanned decades - 70s, 80s & 90s. They toured all the local pubs, toured overseas and maintained their friendship throughout all the highs & lows. Michael had the X-Factor that guys wanted to have & that the girls all loved. He was the Ultimate frontman (RIP). Every band member had a different personality & was a crucial part of the success of INXS. Definitely check out the live show at Wembley at the height of their fame! Sold out Wembley Stadium - 74,000 fans! Recorded on 35 mm film & 17 cameras & filmed by helicopters - it blew up the band’s profits from the show but now we have this recorded footage forever (Hard to believe that is 30 years ago!!) What you Need, New Sensation, Live baby Live, Suicide Blonde, Need you Tonight, Never Tear us Apart, Devil Inside. Ahh the memories!

Haha…. That is a rat, not a mouse! Yes it’s a booty call. We didn’t play games in the 80s. Now, first Michael Hutchence. Talented sexy man who could really sing. That band sizzled and sparked like a star from heaven. Then suddenly it all came crashing down. Bob Geldof’s wife, Paula Yates, severely known as an addict had started an affair with Micheal, who was several years younger than herself and she was pregnant. Of course she began to share her addiction with him as well. At one point they were arrested for possession of opium. Tiger Lily was born, daughter to Michael and Paula. Paula wanted to visit him on tour with their daughter and her other 3 children but their father Geldof, had the court forbid her from taking his kids with her to Australia. The two men argued but Geldof would not budge. It was Christmas. Each father wanted their children. When Michael couldn’t see Tiger Lily, he committed suicide by hanging with a belt in his hotel room. This talented young man was gone. Alcohol, cocaine, Prozac and variety of prescription drugs…. And the wrong woman, brought everything to an end. In 1997, at age 37. In 2000, Yates died of a heroin overdose. Tragic people who had been on top of the world at one point. Gone. In case you did not recognize the name, Bob Geldof was the original organizer to the LIVE AID famine relief for Africa. After Yates died, he adopted Tiger Lily and raised her as his own with his other three daughters. This my young friends is REAL life. You just can’t make up this sh*t.

There was also a rumor it had something to do with Bob Geldof's wife being in a love triangle with him and Geldof. He did the coolest thing in a concert I went to. They loved to invite the young girls on stage and dance at certain points of the concert. Well, this one girl got a bit too excited and was hugging and grabbing all over Hutchinson. This huge security guard, twice the size of Hutchinson grab the girl really roughly, lifted her up in a bear hug and roughly carried her off the stage kicking and screaming. Hutchinson saw this and ran up to the guard who was literally towering over him and pushed him in the back. Over his mic you could hear him say, "Don't you EVER treat my fans like that again." The guard turned around to attack whoever had pushed him and saw who it was. He put the girl down and slinked off the stage. I heard later he invited her and her friends backstage and gave them a bunch of stuff.

Great reaction! 🌞 I love this song! So many memories! INXS (in excess) were one of the great Aussie bands in the '80's & 90's. They were formed in Sydney in 1977. They had massive success worldwide - one of the few Aussie acts to successfully crack the US market. The album this song is from, Kick, peaked at no 3 on the US charts & No 1 in Australia & Canada. They have so many hits - Stay Young, The One Thing, Don't Change, Original Sin, I Send A Message, Burn For You, Dancing On The Jetty, Listen Like Thieves, What You Need, Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain), This Time, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Devil Inside, Mystify, Suicide Blonde, Disappear, By My Side, Bitter Tears Baby Don't Cry, Taste It, Beautiful Girl., Heaven Sent, Not Enough Time. This song was HUGE in the 80's. It turned INXS into a super group from a curiosity. It was played everywhere especially at any sort of catered event, like a wedding, xmas party, even dance clubs by the DJ. If you asked a girl to go to a concert with you and you said it was INXS, you were in my man! I saw them 3 times in 6 months and I didn't even like them that much at first. LOL. But uhm, lets just say I learned to like them. :) And they do put on a great show. And depending what story you believe, he either hung himself. Possibly because he was depressed because his affair with Bob Geldof's wife(live Aid organizer and one hit wonder of "I don't like Mondays") ended. Or accidently hung himself while performing a sex act. Autoerotic asphyxiation

INXS (pronounced "In excess") was one of Australia's biggest bands. Probably only ACDC and Bee Gees were bigger. Were huge in the late 1980's til the mid 1990's when the lead singer, who also wrote many of their hits, tragically passed away (pretty young). Radio stations when they were new also did not know how to pronounce the bands name either..lol. They probably have like 20 hits, all are staples on the radio, some til this day. Songs "New Sensation" "Don't Change" and "Never tear us apart" are the biggest ones still on any classic rock channel on radio or steaming. Were considered alternative, like REM, back in the day. "Mediate" portion of the video was an homage to Bob Dylan, who famously put lyrics just like that on cards and would flip them in sync to the lyrics. See "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video by Dylan, a 1965 song. Their apex was playing at Wembley stadium in London around 1993? 100,000 fans, probably the most women in the audience you will ever see for a rock concert, like 70% women. The lead singer, Michael Hutchence, was considered, um, quite the good looking guy by girls in my school..lol
