John can still belt out this song at 71 & did earlier this year before Covid19 struck. He is Australia's icon & has been for 50 years. Alas tho his mullet has gone but the voice hasn't thank heavens. I recall when I first heard this song in 1986 I was gobsmacked by it's powerful message. It's more significant now than ever. John always puts on a great show & never disappoints. Celine Dion loves him. Check out this song sung by both of them. It's on KZbin. Cheers

The will never, in all our days, be another Farnsey. It’s not just his incredible gift (and as a singer, it IS incredible), but it’s his phenomenal stage presence, his connection to every single crowd he’s ever in for the of, and the fact that despite his literal decades of success, his humble nature has NEVER changed. I’d recommend reacting to ‘Help’ with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Burn For You, Please Don’t Ask Me, and his gobsmacking performance as Jesus in JC Superstar.

It’s difficult to make it clear just how HARD this song is to sing- for anyone, but especially for a man. For most men to reach those sorts of high notes (and they are high), they usually have to switch to a softer falsetto. But John still belts them with just as much power as the middle notes. And this song has a MASSIVE range of notes, from lower all the way up. And like I said, professional male singers can hit those notes, but they can’t hit them with that sort of power and consistency. This is, he performed this song earlier this year with Brian May from Queen, for the Aussie Bushfire relief concert. In the same key. With the same kind of power and consistency. At 70 years old. The vast majority of singers will lose a lot of their power and range by that age, but John hasn’t. Honestly, the only male vocalist I’d compare Farnsy to, is Freddie Mercury. That’s the type of skill and talent we’re talking about. And to be honest, I don’t think even Freddie had that amount of power at the top of his range. It’s just really, really rare. Farnsy is probably the best vocalist Australia has ever produced (and yeah, I know he was born in England, but he’s been here since he was a kid, is an Aussie citizen, and has spent his entire career here. He’s an Aussie!). And I say that even though Australia has a huge amount of extremely talented singers, from the 60s through to now. It’s not like we’re starving for talent here, quite the opposite. But he’s still the best of them. And like I said, it can be difficult for anyone to sing. I’m an alto (a lower voiced female singer), and those high notes are right at my limit of what I can pull chest voice up to belt. Literally, my absolute limit. I can sing higher, but only in a falsetto/head voice, which is that “flip” you hear, when it goes higher and softer. To belt those notes is hard. A soprano could do it, but then they’d have trouble with the lower notes. That’s what makes him so amazing. That, and his sheer power (which I don’t have on my best day, in my easiest notes). It’s not as obvious in this clip, but you’ll see that when he belts, he’ll often pull the mic all the way down to his waist. That’s so he doesn’t blow the mic out with the sheep power and volume of his voice. When most singers pull the mic away to belt, it’s maybe 5-10cm. Not half a bloody metre! I’ve never seen any pop or rock singer with that kind of power, ever. Not outside of opera do you see that kind of power and volume. He’s just amazing. He is The Voice, and for damn good reason. Excuse my rambling. But I truly do love this guy. And he’s also a really, genuinely good person, to boot.
@andreim.53244 жыл бұрын
I understand exactly what you mean, and to put into perspective just how fantastic of a voice this man has, when Freddie Mercury (who is my absolute favorite singer) was asked in the 80's who he thinks has the best male voice on the planet, he responded without any hesitation: John Farnham.

I don’t think he really pushed himself outside of Australia, though he gained a following in Europe.
