The song was originally written for Rod by Paul Stanley but he liked it so he kept it....Paul himself did sing it unplugged here and there...also that double neck guitar in the music video paul sold and just recently got it back....there is a cool video on that

In my country, that song was presented as a Rod Steward song in the State radio back then, and every time I went 'Wtf, morons??!' And, no, it's a double neck belonging to Paul Stanley, and he just got it back, after having sold it ages ago.

That's impressive! I barely have any LPs left in my limited collection. No cassettes either. Which is crazy bc I prob got 80 of them from that "penny for a cassette" thing in the mail. I can't remember the name. Was it Columbia? Doesn't matter. Somehow, none survived. 😢😢

@@snakeinthegrass7443, yes, I seem to recall that Columbia House had the penny deal. Sorry to hear that... like myself... you don't have those anymore. I wasn't allowed to buy LPs or cassettes until I was well into my teenage years (strict parents). Bought my first three LPs in January 1978: KISS Alive ll, Boston's self-titled debut, and Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell. When I finally stopped buying LPs and cassettes in the late '80s, I recall that I had 150 LPs and 300+ cassettes (none of which were duplicates). Went through a divorce in the early '90s, and sold a lot of things... including every LP and cassette.

This was all over the radio back in the day and actually had much more airplay than "Beth" did. Always loved this song, still do. Paul Stanley wrote this song to send to Rod Steward as a kind of follow up to Maggy Mae, but Peter Criss heard it and insisted that the sing it on the next album, glad that he did. The double neck guitar is a double neck guitar, but both Ace and Paul are playing it. Paul is strapped with the guitar and playing the lower neck while Ace is standing behind Paul with his arms around Paul playing the upper neck.

It went back to Stewart's camp and Stewart passed on it a second time. The entire time the KISS producers were pointing to Peter. Remember that Peter was starting to have issues arriving at the studio. The label felt it would inspire Peter to be more involved. When Peter heard it, that's exactly what happened. Back in 1976 the radio audience was fooled by Kiss, thinking that this was a new Rod Stewart song. They should've known better because that same year, Kiss had released 'Beth' as a 'throw away' on the B-side of their 'Detroit Rock City' single. Instead of playing 'Detroit Rock City, DJ's started to flip the single, playing Beth. Thus Kiss ended up with a MASSIVE hit. Maybe you should check Beth out. You'll be in for a surprise. Very true, bands like Kiss and Alice Cooper provided some real entertainment in a time when it was sorely needed.

Absolutely!! I was born in 1970, and introduced to music right away by my parents and it just took to me. I play drums so I feel music,I don't just hear it. And all old Kiss is Bad Ass!!!

Paul wrote this song for Rod Stewart in the vein of Maggie May but Stewart declined to record it. Paul had Peter sing it because he knew it was a match. I don't think KISS ever performed this song in a proper concert. There's version of this song on KISS Alive II, but that version is a studio track with added crowd noise.

Rod Stewart never declined to record 'Hard Luck Woman' because it was never offered to him. It was Paul Stanley's original intention to give the song to Rod but after KISS and Peter had the big hit with 'Beth' on Destroyer album Stanley decided to use the song for Peter on the next album.

@@unclestinky6388 Not a studio track. As Eddie Kramer explained, the recording equipment wasn't always up to the task of recording Live. Rather than have bands do second and 3rd takes so the engineers could change the focus each time, they made those changes in the studio. Eddie Kramer had done the same trick with Led Zeppelin and the technique was used for Peter Frampton also as well as many others in the 70's

Peter sang at least one song on every album First album he was lead vocal on black diamond once it got going and nothing to lose was lead background , hotter than hell he sang strange ways , dressed to kill he sang getaway , destroyer - beth , rock and roll over this and baby driver love gun hooligan , dynasty dirty livin not sure if he did one on unmasked. His solo album many hate it i think its good judging by what i have seen on your channel you may not love it bu i think you would appreciate what he did by going a totally different direction than typical KISS stuff it really showcases how good his voice was.

Pete's voice has bluesy character. Somewhat similar to Rod Stewart in certain registers.

This and Beth were my 2 favourite Kiss tracks. Loved Peter Criss voice. Even the intro sounds like the music on Maggie May

Paul Stanley actually wrote this song with Rod Stewart in mind but ended up keeping it to release on their Rock and Rollover album. That is a double neck guitar. They're both playing it at the same time.

Love this reaction! 2:00 “okay” Excellent song and vocals huh! This is the album I discovered in my older cousins room when he went down the road for a minute. I was 12! I’ll never forget. He walked in and said, “Boy what the hell you listening to!” Lol. I was supposed to only listen to his old Elvis records cause he knew I was a big fan of E
