Peter is a fine drummer, was a great/under-rated drummer. His only issue now is he can;t do it on a night to night basis. Whether age related or past abuse, not for me to say, but Peter and his jazz grooves were amazing back in the day.

KISS has a song called "Hard Luck Woman" from 1976. Drummer Peter Criss' voice always reminds me of Rod Stewart, and it really shows on that song. The official video is worth a watch/listen. Love the channel and reactions my friend!

Peter definitely had a Rod Stewart vibe going, and Hard Luck Woman is one of his best studio performances IMO. Rock and Roll Over is probably my favorite LP of their classic era
@donkarnage6032
@donkarnage6032 Ай бұрын
Paul Stanley: "When I wrote 'Hard Luck Woman' I wrote it more or less as an exercise. I used to enjoy listening to other performers and seeing if I could stand in their shoes, so to speak, and write a song in their style. So after hearing 'Maggie May' and 'You Wear it Well' and some of the Rod Stewart songs of that era, I sat down with the idea of writing one of these. And my initial idea was to give it to Rod. Although by the time it was done, we had this huge hit with 'Beth' and were now working on the next album and needed another song for Peter. He was the logical choice to sing it."

They don't get much credit for the syncopations and harmonies, but you recognize it and that's awesome! You should check out some of their stuff from their Unplugged show, it was incredible! Paul's voice on "I Still Love You" is amazing but they did a few songs with the 4 current members and Ace and Peter which basically kicked off the reunion. Playing with 2 drummers isn't easy at all! Check out "Nothin' To Lose" or the anthem "Rock N Roll All Nite" from that show, you'll be happy that you did!

Peter uses a ton of those shuffles in his era. Its what gives the golden era of Kiss its unique sound because of his jazz influences and applying it to Rock n Roll. Here is one I did in the back yard during the pandemic when I first started playing again after a long layoff. I needed something do during lock down to keep me from going crazy. Back in these days of me getting back into it. I was trying to do everything with a just a kick snare a ride and hi-hat only. This is 100,000 years off the first album and I just couldn't keep it going. I fell off the tracks at the end. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnnPh2pjgMt1ftU Get on you kit and give us something Steven... Another great reaction video - love the drum insights especially! Some useless (?!) trivia for you - the ascending run that Ace does to start his solo was "borrowed" from the Blue Magoos' "We ain't got nothin' yet". Deep Purple also "borrowed" the main riff from that song in Black Night. Blue Magoos guitarist Peppy Castro gave Ace some guitar lessons when Ace was a teen, then appeared on Paul Stanley's 1978 solo album and had a songwriting co-credit for "Naked City" on Kiss' 1980 album "Unmasked". Keep up the great work!

This has always been in my top 3 KISS songs but there's something I've never been happy with. As a lyricist, who admittedly overwrites in some instances, I've never liked how repititious it is after the solo. And I don't know if there is any video of it out there but the audio is readily available. You should check out God Of Thunder off of the Alive II album, Peter has a nice drum solo in the middle. There's plenty of videos of Eric Carr's drum solos in the 80s. You would definitely get a kick out of his huge drum sets, complete with synthesizer pads.

I know you are a drummer and you are calling all these beats and everything correct. The sad news is, and I always knew it but it was confirmed by Paul Stanley's book, a lot of the drums were piped in and Peter was playing along with a track. He said his playing was so weak just in the intensity that they had to put the triggers on the drums to extra hot because he just wasn't hitting the drums. Hate to take that away from Peter cuz I think he did a great job in the original track in '78 or whatever but there's all that. It's showbiz. The overall picture is what matters the most.
@setonhillstudios
@setonhillstudios Ай бұрын
Thanks for the insight! Triggers are very common today especially in the metal genre. When you hear those metal drummers blazing those double bass parts many times they are triggered. Speed sacrifices power especially at those crazy tempos. Like you said, I guess it’s more of a tool to get the sound you are going for! 😄
