Always happy to hear someone appreciate Peter’s playing … as hard rock went on, drumming lost of lot of subtlety and nuance … and that is where Peter exactly excelled, was one-of-a-kind, and awesome!

I'm far from being a musician. I'm just a KISS fan. But it is so refreshing to hear these reviews where you recognize their talent. Rock and Roll is a three-chord electrifying, straight-to-your-ears-and-senses music.

Seton Hill Studios: So glad you appreciate Peter’s BD. He actually took lessons from my hero Gene Krupa. Seriously, at that time Kiss were so looked down on, by other bands fans, and absolutely trashed by the press. Kiss weren’t trying to be artsy, and their songwriting was constantly called infantile, & unlistenable. I still have those reviews, and remember the other rock fans who constantly insulted them and looked down on Kiss fans. They certainly had the last laugh. Those (at the time) all powerful critics, have been long forgotten! Kiss hasn’t.

Great Peter drumming, absolutely, seems the tune was composed around the drums licks leading the song, the fills are correct, that`s why Peter Criss is the back bone of classic early and consistent set list, always performed in every live show they held around the world. Many Criss`s heaters around there do exist yet, 50 years after, but the Cat , man , he was really on fire performing all that Winterland live show. Are classics now, today. Salute, from Bogota Colombia, a Kiss nation one, as well.

@@Lovegun-w4s as you know, the Double Platinum album was released by their label Casablanca. Unmasked and Dynasty were released a little too slick and polished so the label slightly remixed the songs on Double Platinum (DP) to be a little more rough and hard hitting. Originally the members didn't like it but they sold better than Unmasked and Dynasty together. The band got the message and after the experiment of Music From The Elder, Creatures of the Night was rough edged and hard hitting.

Kiss fans described the experience of seeing the band play clubs in the early days as a 'life-altering' show... Imagine seeing 4 guys in face paint and costumes, towering over the audience wearing high-heel boots and the first song kicks in w/ bombs going off and onstage... they see Paul, Gene and Ace w/ guitars (and bass) just slamming the audience... There was no band like Kiss in 1974/ '75. Their managers recalled headlining bands complaining that Kiss was 'upstaging' them... Joe Perry (guitarist of Aerosmith) recalled sharing stages w/ Kiss in the early days and he grumbled that they were more about the show and less about the music, while Aerosmith were 5 guys arguing between songs onstage... Kiss would get such a response opening that headliners could not keep up w/ the enthusiasm they generated from the audience. As a result, no major bands or artists wanted Kiss as an opening band. Kiss would counter critics insisting that if the music wasn't good, they would be run off the stage because people thought they were clowns at first... Their first manager Bill Aucoin was a TV producer and he would film Kiss rehearsing and the band would study the footage and discuss how to improve the visual experience. Peter Criss (drums) was a great talent early on... He loved jazz/ swing music and he brought that to Kiss and made their music 'swing'... His persona was 'the Catman' and it fit him cos his limbs were fast when he played live... It's a pity that he had a bad drug habit and it wrecked his skills on the drums by 1979 to the point where he couldn't play on Kiss records anymore. Paul and Gene rehearsed w/ Peter Criss as a trio at first... and then, they auditioned lead guitarists... They were considering guitarist Bob Kulick when Ace Frehley came in and he was cool... a weird character... and when he jammed w/ the band, the sound clicked and both Paul and Gene knew that Ace was the one for Kiss. However, he too was plagued by drug abuse and alcoholism by 1978... Still, he won over Kiss fans even today.

You'll notice that the video was stopped kinda fast at the end. That's because they usually go into their song titled Firehouse, which is the same way they do it on their 1975 Kiss Alive album. I think you would have enjoyed this even more had you done the same thing. You're right about how people always looked down on Peter Chris's drumming. When I playing in metal bands years ago, so did l and and several of my other musician friends. That's because a lot of us were more into bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Ozzy. So, when you're young and comparing Peter Chris's drumming to John Bonham, Neal Peart, Ian Paice and Tommy Aldridge, you can get the picture why we were like that. I didn't learn to appreciate Peter's drumming skills more until l was older. Nice reaction.🎵🎼🎸🎶🎹

"Fractured III", from Ace's Trouble Walkin' album in 1989 "Fractured Quantum", from Ace's Anomaly album in 2009

I love the fact you are so into KISS they are so much more talented than people think. I love the fact you appreciate their musicianship. They were very hungry. In 1970 Gene and Paul formed a band called Rainbow and changed it to Wicked Lester as to not be confused with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. They the then brought Peter Criss first and then Ace was last IIRC. They had an album that has never been fully released under Epic records only bootleg type releases. Little KISS tidbit for today. Like I mentioned in another one of your vids Kiss was it for me as a little youngster it is what turned me into a rock and roller and then a metalhead years later. I just went and made a KISS playlist of every album on YT like 458 songs LOL when I saw you put this up. I need to go binge watch all of your vids in order. Yeah, Ace and the bottle. Peter and his drugs. It was what, two years after this performance they did the 4 solo albums trying to keep the band going? Ace's was the most successful of the solo albums. His cover of New York Groove was a top 40 hit. On the Destroyer album Ace says there are songs he didn't play on because he was drunk and didn't show at the studio. Time is money, so they got a session player to fill in for him. Bob Erzin ran a tight ship in the recording sessions. As Peter got into the drugs more his playing did suffer. I've seen film where he just quits in the middle of a song. Another whete he keeps messing up the timing. Some say that was intentional as tensio s were rising in the band. Crazy stuff. Ace lastest with them till his car wreck in 1982. His injuries kept him from touring for two years, I believe. Maybe three. They couldn't wait for him. They went through several guitarists. Ace documents the wreck in his solo song Rock Soldiers.

@holysmokes5817 obviously you are free to have that opinion. Were KISS equals to early Kansas; Queen; Pink Floyd; The Moody Blues; or even Rush? (As a diehard KISS fan since '76), I can honestly say that no they were not. However, they were never trying to be! Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. That doesn't mean that the band "sucks". I have personally known a lot of people that have sworn Nirvana and REM are the best that has ever existed. Personally, I can't stand either of them. But I also don't claim that they suck. I simply don't care for their style of music.
