@@rogerdodger6025 Yeah, you’re right. I worked at a “pop” radio station and “Let Love Rule” was played on rock or alternative rock stations. I didn’t listen to that album or know anything about Lenny until we started playing “It Ain’t Over…”. Then I backtracked and bought Let Love Rule.

The song has such vintage Motown vibes I honestly thought it was a cover all these years....I obviously never researched it to see that he in fact wrote it himself. Kudos to him for creating such a fantastic tribute to a great era in music!

60's soul. Even added some sitar like the 60's.
@rogerdodger60254 күн бұрын
This song reminds of Smokey Robinson. The Motown influence is written all over it. It came out in 1992, but could have easily fit in well in the 60's or 70's. LK's music does have a retro feel to it and that's a good thing IMO.

When Lenny wrote this song,, He felt it would be a hit with an old school vibe,, He wanted to give it to Smokey Robinson to record,, But music executives talkied him into doing it himself..He also wrote this song hoping to rekindle his love/marriage to Lisa Bonet,, Unfortunately it didnt.

I used to work at Diamond's Supermarket in Lake Worth, TX off Jacksboro Highway, right by the Winn-Dixie. I was a sacker. I remember mopping the aisles of the store and this song would come on. I was in like 9th or 10th grade, like 1989, 1990 era. Good times!

The album that this single was on is called 'Mama Said'... The song/video for 'Mama Said' features Slash on guitar. (It was rumored that he got the gig after running into Lenny at an award show and telling him..."I love your album, me and the wife f*ck to it all the time" referring to his first album.) His first album 'Let Love Rule' was released 35 years ago... This was the second album... Dedicated to his wife Lisa Bonet, mother of Zoe Kravitz in an attempt to save the marriage. 💔

When I first heard this song 30 years ago, I thought it was a remake of a Motown song. But I learned a few years later that it was all him. American Woman is a remake. The original artist is The Guess Who, and it was intended to protest the Vietnam War.
