"Genius Of Love" by Tom Tom Club was sampled in this song.

Jay now you need to react to the original song. So you can hear what parts was taken from it.
@wreckingKREW13 жыл бұрын
Sampled? Haha,it's damn near the whole song. I hope she gave Chris and Tina some co-songwriter credits.
@wreckingKREW13 жыл бұрын
@Rose Madder Yeah,first time I heard this it was the Tom Tom Club hook that made me sit up and take notice for sure. Massive Talking Heads fan,so naturally I dug TTC as well. And to her credit,I checked and Mariah did give full co-writer credit to Chris,Tina,Steve Stanley and Adrian Belew,all of whom penned Genius Of Love. Kind of a crazy 6 degrees deal here,when you can draw a connect line from Mariah Carey to King Crimson (whom Belew joined right after the Tom Tom Club recording sessions ended.) That's comparable to finding a way to link,say Taylor Swift,to Swedish death metal,haha.
@maryfromabluest83 жыл бұрын
Yeah, bordering on a rip off of Tom Tom Club. Genius of Love. Check it out Jay!

@Rose Madder Knowing Taylor she could probably make a death metal album and nail it,haha. Don't care for many contemporary artists,but credit where it's due,that girl is kind of a genius.

This was the JAM that year. Everybody...I mean everybody, was singing it in school. It was huge. And for good reason. The "Genius of Love" sample, the atmospheric synths, her vocal performance, the catchy groove...dang it. This was such a hit, and so much nostalgia! EDIT: I am still boppin' and jammin' to this. I think I may have to binge it and the remixes this weekend, Jay.

This woman has an incredible discography; 19 number ones - the most of any solo artist! you should listen to the remix too with rapper ODB its the one that most prefer but you can do that in your own time since its not that much different in terms of the beat. The remix for this was also what set the standard for R&B artists to feature rappers on their songs. Fantasy is from her 1995 "Daydream" album which is my favorite album of hers - every song on there is sooo good. It was my first CD taht I ever bought. There are so many more songs to react to from her but I'll just list a few from her earlier 90s albums: I Don't Wanna Cry; Love Takes Time (#1 hit); Emotions (#1 hit); Make It Happen; Someday (#1 hit) (this version is the one to listen to - theres video but the one on KZbin is a remix version so it's better to listen to this audio instead - it has more of a pop 80s sound :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3WXdWanea9qq5I); there are too many more but these are her hits from 1990-1991 so you can see how she started
