You honestly just listened to music history. This song changed the industry, it is pretty much credited with creating the "pop"/hiphop collaboration. Before this song "pop" artists with rappers just was not done, now it's the norm. Plus a lot of rappers after this have also credited Mariah with bringing them into the spotlight early in their careers by her featuring them in songs. I think she was actually an honorary member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and maybe the Wu-Tang clan too.

She actually sampled a group from the early 80s called the Tom Tom Club they had a song called "Genius Of Love" this song started a movement of infusion of Pop and Hip Hop..Mariah was voted the most successful artist of the 90s...she had a number 1 hit in each year of the 90s..this song was #1 in 95..my senior year in high school..this remix was EVERYWHERE dude like TLC's "Waterfalls" they played these songs constantly that year..heavy heavy rotation.

Give it up for Mariah, a visionary for fusing pop/r&b and hip hop. The music label and her ex-husband Tommy Mottola didn’t want her associated with hip hop music or artists in any way. They wanted to control the “wholesome” image they had given her. But she bucked the system and took collecting hit records to a whole other level. She is for sure the queen of remixes 💯. That's false. It's kinda unfair that this narrative continues. Mary J and other male r&b artists had collaborations with rappers b4 her. Perhaps because their popularity was not at the same level but Mary had a whole remix album in 93. The "what's the 411 remix album" courtesy of Puff. The fantasy remix was in '95 and who do you hear talking all over the song in the background? Puff 🤷🏾‍♀️ Maybe she is the first 'pop' or 'mainstream' artist to popularize it but she definitely wasn't the first one.
