Background and composition The song is inspired by the case of Armin Meiwes and Bernd Jürgen Armando Brandes. In March 2001, in Rotenburg an der Fulda, the two men aged in their 40s met each other, cut off and cooked Brandes' penis and consumed it together. Afterwards, Meiwes killed Brandes - with Brandes' permission - and ate his remains. As a result, Meiwes was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail for manslaughter, but was later charged with murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. According to bassist Oliver "Ollie" Riedel, the song came about after "one of our members brought a newspaper to rehearsal and it had a story about the cannibal guy in it. We were fascinated, shocked and amused at the same time". Vocalist Till Lindemann stated, "It is so sick that it becomes fascinating and there just has to be a song about it".[2] A prominent phrase in the song is "... denn du bist, was du isst, und ihr wisst, was es ist gREETINGS;RAINER

This is what I like about Rammstein. They try to tell us a story through their songs, while using props to help illustrate what they are trying to tell everyone. Such in the case, with this song "Mein Teil". It's the reason why Till Lindemann is dressed like a butcher, looking all bloody, while bringing out a huge smoldering pot, with one of the band members in it. The flamethrower at the end is also a nice touch.

Actually this song is about a real Crime case in Germany - the Cannibal of Rothenburg - 2003 -Thats the reason why Till is cooking Flake. The Cannibal searched for another guy which he could eat and he found one who was willing to be eaten. "Mein Teil" is german slang for "Dick". In fact the victim ate also a part of his ....

You should check out their performance in St. Petersburg live in 2019 of this song. Lindemann is shooting flames from an artillery-like cannon at the keyboardplayer, who is wearing an asbestos suit. It is crazy and hillarious!
