This song holds the world record for consecutive words without swearing by an Australian. Also, this song is so singable you can totally forget that none of it makes sense, though I do love it when you dip into the '80s.

I am Australian and this is our unofficial national anthem. In the 80s this song and the movie Crocodile Dunndee put Australia on the international map. Men at Work are iconic in my country. Other iconic Aussie songs to check out are Never Tear Us Apart by INXS, Your the voice by John Farnham, Beds are Burning by Midnight Oil, Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel, Working Class Man by Jimmy Barnes, Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House, April Sun in Cuba by Dragon. Crowded House and Dragon are both part Australian and Part New Zealand. Australia is like the big brother to New Zealand. We might make jokes about them but it is all done in a ligh hearted way. My parents are kiwi but I was born in Australia. Russell Crow is an Australian that was actually born in New Zealand. Not an uncommon thing as there is more work available in the entertainment industry in Australia. AC/DC where originally formed in Sydney Australia by the Young brothers. AC/DC are Scottish born Australians. Mel Gibson in An American who got his start in movies acting in Australia. Mad Max was is break out film in Australia. The Gibb brothers where British born who moved to Australia as young teens and formed The Bee Gees in Queensland Australia. They had their first success on radio and TV in Australia before deciding to move back to England to further their carrer. There are lots of great Aussies in Hollywood today. Maggot Robbie, Cate Blanchet, Huge Jackman, Rose Burn, Toni Collett, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Chris Hemsworth, Joel Edgerton, Ben Mendleson. Just to name a few. Australia is such a great country. Please check out more iconic music from my home country. Keep up the great work and I love your precence. So upbeat and joyfully.

Good morning Aileen 😊 Happy birthday number 30🎉 Beautiful reaction to Men at Work Down Under 😊👍 This was a monster hit in the early 80s. The song played on the radio it seemed like forever. It also played on MTV it seemed like forever. In 1984, I went with my mother to the World's Fair in New Orleans and at the Australian Pavilion they played this song over and over and over. The theme of the World's Fair was all about water and conservation. As the largest island in the world, water is very important to Australia. The Australian team had just won the America's Cup yachting competition and proudly displayed their winning yacht at the Pavilion. Yes, the song is an absolutely feel good song and I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. I will post another comment later on because I'm very interested to see the other commenters and how they like your reaction. Until then... Always know that we love you and that you are the very best. Have a great day you and Arya with much love 😊👍💪❤️

As an Aussie, Its good to see reaction channels getting to some of our classics. So many good songs over the years. Many are listed in the comments below but Hunters and Collectors "Holy Grail" should be right up there with the recommendations. If you like quirky music you should try the band Psychostick. They are a comedy metal band. The song names alone will probably give that away with the likes of Obey The Beard, This Is Not A Song It's a Sandwich, I Can Only Count To Four (parody of Bodies by Drowning Pool) and Because Boobs. Then you have great Songs like Beer! and the very short Dogs Like Socks.

There was an excellent Australian music show called Spicks and Specks and they pointed out that the lovely flute sounded like the song Kookaburra, written in 1932 as a nursey rhyme (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpbNfKVtqtadsMU). This ended up with the owners of the Kookaburra song suing Men at Work. The owners of Kookaburra were seeking 60% of the revenue of the song, this was almost 30yrs after Down Under was released. Result was that they ended up with 5% of the revenue. When the Spicks and Specks program finally ended after 11 seasons, at the end of the finale the shows hosts deeply apologized to Men at Work saying they were deeply deeply sorry.

A darker side to the story is that the flute player, Greg Ham, became very depressed during all this and eventually passed away after becoming addicted to heroin and some believe he took his own life. Today, this song gets performed by lead singer Colin Hay who tours as part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band.
