I saw them at the Middletown fairgrounds, NY general admission 1989🤘😝🤘 They melted my face. At that moment those soldiers didn't have bosses, some unbuttoned their gear and joined the party while others bashed heads and took 12 young lives. Heard it was 12 could have been more. Long Live Cliff!!!☝️😞🤘

First gig I ever drove myself and my mates to after passing my driving test at 17 years old - Manchester GMex centre, 1992. 2 of us in the front, 4 in the back and one in the boot - stopping at every town/village on the way for a pint, how I kept my licence that day I’ll never know, I’d only had it a few weeks 😂 Young and very stupid - Great days 👍

@@reckoninginc.1.6 million is not the exact count cause according to lars in an interview he said he approached the managers who were counting just before end of pentera set just before Metallica was going they said it is more than 1.6 m and according to some sources they stopped the count there hence they stopped after that so it can still be more than 2 million 1.6 is just an estimate cause this concert was free tmany people even broke out of wall of that airfield by breaking the fuckin wall. And for proof you can see soldiers fighting crowd during harvest of sorrow and people coming out of broken wall rocking and headbanging

As a veteran of many Metallica concerts I can honestly say that being in a mosh pit and the guitar solo finishes and all the sudden you just have the bass and drums it is amazing. Then when you think it could not get any more intense James gets the crowd chanting “die, die, die, die………” and the energy is just something on an entirely different level! Now if you want Metallica energy that blows this out of the water then you need to watch the live performance of “Battery” from Seattle in 1989! That performance is live a top fuel dragster and makes this feel like a Toyota carolla in neutral.

Great comments about James. It's true. I took a break from MTV Metallica in 1990 to have my youngest. I came back when the Black Album came out. Later took my son to see them live. James voice was the same then and even now he holds up. Not much difference.

this concert was held at the fall of the soviet union and the end of the cold war half a million only were anticipated at the concert but the number exceeded all expectations. I love what the bassist Jason Newstead adds vocally to this song in this performance. Fact the drummer Lars Ulric cut his hand playing the drums so passionately at this concert he still has the blood stained kit as a souvenir. You have to listen to Harvester of Sorrow from this concert it is the song James growls in the most

The breakdown section of this song was nicked off an Exodus song called something like Die By His Hand. But it's ok, because that was written by Kirk! Apparently James and Lars decided to lift it it without telling him and surprised him with a demo version. Worth checking Exodus out too.

So it’s a common thing people get wrong but there were no actual deaths from this concert. There were something like 53 injuries or something, but no actual deaths. The deaths thing that gets reported everywhere comes from I believe an error in translation from Russian to English when someone was looking at a newspaper report about the concert in Russian. I think the word must’ve translated to casualties or something for whoever it was so they assumed that meant deaths. But casualties means both dead and injured which a lot of people don’t know that they think it just means deaths. But it was actually only injured people/people who went to the hospital for whatever other reasons(drunk, exhaustion, etc.) but yeah no one actually died
