Yeah, for the first 4 albums after that it's mostly crap. I saw them live from their very first tour and the next tours until after the "Black" album. Then I thought they got lazy. If Cliff hadn't died I think they might have done much better. That said this song and "Ride the Lightning" album is great. It's hard to imagine how a group of kids at the time came up with such great lyric's based on the Bible for this song.

@@Dinosaurs_with_laser_guns Hey, yeah, 30+ year fan here. Yes, this album is far better than magnetic. Literally the only album you HAVE to listen to, since the black album. There have been some decent tracks, since the black album, but hardwired is the first legit great album since those times. They did it, they actually did have another album in them.

I agree with you but you are falling into the trope that the 5th album is bad. Too many people discredit the Black album. That album changed music. And has killer songs. The Black album was what made them actual Metal Gods because they transcended the genre and made their music accessible. After that they were no longer a whale in a pond but a leviathan in the ocean.
@Vadershake
@Vadershake 3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewjones6149 I did not say any of their albums are bad lol. If you consider their evolution from Kill'em All to Ride the Lightening to Master of Puppets and then And Justice for All you witness a speed metal band (at the time) evolve musically and become accepted by the main stream music industry and people like none before it.

keeping in line with the biblical references "The Four Horsemen" is a FANTASTIC early Metallica piece, that fun fact also ended up on a Megadeth record as "Mechanix" (It was Originally written when Dave Mustane was in Metallica and he took it with him when he started Megadeth) Both are great but definitely check out Four Horsemen first!

With Metallica, Lars [Ulrich] is always playing a little against the riff. It’s almost like I’m the drummer and he does counter beats to the rhythm. Onstage, the only thing Lars has got in his ear monitors is my guitar and some vocals. So I’m kinda keeping the tempo of the song and he’s able to get a little crazier on the drums.” James Hetfield

Larson Ulrich is dynamic on the drums when it comes to this specific type of music. He can play with impressive speed, and has always been an explosive stage performer. Now that I've complemented Lars about as much as you'll see anyone do who knows a thing or 2 about percussion, I'm going to regret to fill you in on how Lars Ulrich is about as basic a drummer there from a technical standpoint. If a beginner drummer wanted to learn to play some heavy metal tracks, Metallica would be a good starting point. Lars plays such an awkward style, it's a wonder he can even keep up with the rest of the band. I can respect the fact that you are impressed with Lars as a drummer, due to the reasons I stated above. But I would have to respectfully disagree that he is all that good with respect to the rest of the rock or metal drummers out there, and I'll warn you that a lot of people will senselessly bash Lars in you're comment section for this reason.

@Sideways G To say that someone is good at something has to mean technical skill by a large amount. I can't say a person is for example a good runner if he can't even run 1km without collapsing. For sure you are right in a way. But a person still has to have certain amount of skill before we can start looking how good or different his/her technique is.
@KingOfBlades27
@KingOfBlades27 3 жыл бұрын
@Sideways G I totally get the idea that you are trying to push here. But your logic of simple designs can't be mixed with the concept of being good at something. Like if being good at something is not measured mostly by technical skill then what exactly are we even looking at?

The fall of the "Iron Curtain" which was the end of "The Cold War". This concert was not the first time Western Music came to Russia but this was the first major music festival. The Monsters of Rock festival. People came from all over the world to celebrate Russian freedom and meet these people we were taught to hate for decades.

This song is telling the Passover story, but from the perspective of the angel of death. The album this song came from had a lot of kinda "out there" themes. There's a song about becoming a werewolf, a song about a kraken(or maybe cthulu), the story of the prince and the pauper, etc. Lots of cool and unique songs, all with amazing production value and mixing. Edit: my bad, I was thinking of the black album., but I'm pretty sure this song was on Ride the Lightning. That album is amazing too, but it felt like kind of a show off album. Lots of long solos and silly transitions that don't add much to the songs, but sound cool. Regardless, you can't really understand why Metallica was so popular just from the live shows. Their studio recordings are absolutely masterful. They used the best equipment and techniques of the time. Everything they released was top of the line.

Creeping Death is on the Kill Em All album, which was before Ride The Lightning. I disagree with your about the “long solos and silly transitions” but you’re most certainly entitled to your opinion.

@@MikeKilo1969 I appreciate you being civil despite our disagreement. Maybe I chose my words poorly, but I have been playing guitar for decades now and I can see the difference between songs like One and Master of Puppets that tell the same story with or without the lyrics versus songs like Fight Fire with Fire or Trapped Under Ice where it is all just playing as fast as possible with as many overly complicated riffs as they could squeeze in. Not to say those are bad songs, but they don't feel like they had the same goal as the previous examples I listed.

haha - you're seriously on the verge of being pulled into the Metallica rabbit hole. It's wide and deep, you're best served by looking back at all of the '80s songs.
