Oh, guys, so you don’t recall the legendary Motörhead? Of ”Ace of spades” fame? Anyway, this is they, alongside Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and (the admittedly glammier) Def Leppard THE most influential band of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal era, as in the early 80s. ”Hellraiser” is one of their most famous songs, even if it came out relatively late in their career, as in 1992. The song’s history is pretty interesting. Motörhead’s singer, bassist and undisputed leader, the man, myth, legend Lemmy (born Ian Kilmister, 1945-2015), originally co-wrote the song for his friend Ozzy Osbourne, and it ended up on Ozzy’s stellar 1991 album ”No more tears”. That album ended up producing a slew of hits, but for whatever inexplicable reason, ”Hellraiser” wasn’t one of them. Anyway, some time later, the makers of the up’n’coming movie ”Hellraiser III” contacted Lemmy. They wanted to use the ”Hellraiser” song on the movie soundtrack (mind you, the title being just a coincidence) but they thought Ozzy’s version wasn’t tough or menacing enough. So they asked Lemmy to re-record the song with Motörhead. Which he did, and the Motörhead version of the song very quickly established itself as THE version, the one that most people know, remember and love. As you probably noticed, the promo video was also very lavish, featuring snippets from the actual movie as well as that segment created especially for the video, with Lemmy playing poker against the main antagonist of the ”Hellraiser” franchise: Pinhead, played by Doug Bradley. (A couple of years ago the franchise was rebooted with a female Pinhead, but that’s another story.) Coincidentally, this was the very first song that Motörhead recorded with Swedish drummer Mikkey Dee - the guy with the thick blonde mullet and pensive eyebrows. Motörhead died with Lemmy, when the latter succumbed to cancer on Boxing Day 2015, after which Mikkey has been playing with another super-legendary band: Germany’s the Scorpions.

So, the majority of clips you saw in this video were from the movie "Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth", the soundtrack of which features this song. However, Motörhead is NOT - I repeat, NOT - the original artist of the song. At least, in terms of the other members of the band. Bassist and lead singer, the late and great Lemmy Kilmister (R.I.P.), co-wrote this song with Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde (Ozzy's guitarist since the "No Rest for the Wicked" album) for his (Ozzy's) "No More Tears" album. So what you listened to is technically a cover, though there are minor lyrical changes in the second verse. Anyway, about the video: As I said, it features clips from "Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth" which is the third installment of the Hellraiser movie series, however the Poker scene was filmed exclusively for the video. And guess who directed it? The man who first created the franchise, Clive Barker! He was invited back to help promote the film which he executive produced, and directed this music video! And the man playing Pinhead, the franchise's iconic villain? Doug Bradley! Yep! Pinhead challenged Lemmy to a game of Poker!

'Hellraiser' was the horror/sci-fi movie that introduced the villain 'Pinhead' (first played by actor Doug Bradley) in 1987, created by Clive Barker (who wrote & directed the first movie) and it became a franchise - 11 movies to date... This music video in 1992 served as the soundtrack for 'Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth'. Lemmy Kilmister (vocals/ bass) of Motorhead wrote 'Hellraiser' for Ozzy Osbourne's 1991 album 'No more tears'... which has sold 4x platinum... Ozzy's version was released first. Motorhead released their 1992 album 'March or die' and 'Hellraiser' became the lead single and featured on 'Hellraiser III' movie soundtrack... However, Motorhead did not see record sales improve in America after over a decade of trying for commercial success... Lemmy recalled that Motorhead performed on 'The Tonight Show' live in '92 and every artist saw a sales boost after their TV appearance on the show... Lemmy claimed that sales of 'March or die' actually dropped(!) after their performance 😫 Motorhead's next album 'Bastards' in 1993 did not even get a US release at the time as a result (It was released over a decade later!) Motorhead was a 4-piece band for this music video... Lemmy (vocals/ bass), Mick 'Wurzel' Burston & Phillip 'Zoom' Campbell (guitars) and Mikkey Dee (drums) ... Guitarist Wurzel left Motorhead in 1995 and the band stayed a trio until Lemmy's death in 2015... Wurzel passed away in 2011. 'Hellraiser' was recently released as a new single w/ both Lemmy and Ozzy Osbourne on vocals.

Absolutely love you Kathy, LuLu and Donna - but please don’t start liking Coldplay, they are a vanilla scoop, in the worst tub of vanilla - they bore for Britain - probably the most hated band among music lovers - sad accountants, personality free call centre workers and folk who buy 2 CDs a year, and have never heard of rap, rock, jazz, reggae, ska, soul, disco or never heard of the Austin music festival, Flaming lips, or king of the hill - even JR Ewing - they like Coldplay. They aspire to nothing, drive awful cars, and would run away from a party if someone lit a spliff - they’re not even geeks or nerds - they’re Dull, stale, tiresome, uninteresting, repetitious, spiritless, unexciting, dreary, lifeless, uninspiring, wearisome, monotonous, wishy-washy, depressing - I’d rather talk to Julian Castro / googled boring Texan 😂. Have you seen the montage reaction to James Blunt? - you three are in it - not the Teddy ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
