Hello Sohum ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome [BACK] to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Ahhh, yes, the wonderful Floor Jansen has captured another. She is incredible. And, so is the rest of this band. Nightwish is made up of a group of extremely talented musicians who all play for the song. You will find no egos here. The result is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. This video featured Jukka on drums, beating them into submission, Emppu on guitar, a master in supplying just what tone the song needs, Marko on bass, who also sings and sometimes takes the lead on some songs. Wait until you hear his voice. And, standing firm behind them all is the "Metal Mozart", Tuomas on keyboards, composer and lyricist of the great majority of the music that this band plays. I see that General Gabriel has already been here. You can't go wrong following his advice as far as the best video for each song. Next up? How about "Romanticide" if you like a harder, rock sound. It doesn't really matter, this is a band where every song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Fantastic analysis of this masterpiece by Tuomas Holopainen (the keybordist) of Floor's voice. All you said is true. She has had some years of opera training in addition to her other music and vocal studies. Concerning Phantom of the opera, there are 2 Nightwish versions, one from 2005 with their first singer Tarja Turunen. And one from 2022 with Floor (ft. Henk Poort as the Phantom). I was at that concert where it was recorded, it was a stunning performance. Highly recommended to check out this 2022 version.

Floor has basic classical training, but is not an opera singer. Dianne wrote her master's thesis about the crossover of opera and metal: DIANNE - Unleash the Siren (Official Music Video) Core is based on punk. It's symphonic metal. Ami Lee from Evanescence is a trained classical pianist and that has influenced her singing. Nightwish is Symphonic Metal what is Power Metal with a stronger classical influence. The connection between Evanescenes and Nightwish is coincidental. The song was released in 2004, you know that. The ending is new and was changed by Floor on this tour. Phantom of the Opera comes in two versions. KZbin's recommendation is the 2005 version with Tarja, the first singer. This version is more metal: NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) Floor sang the song together with an opera/musical singer. Hello Sohum, welcome to the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredibly talented 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen. After Forever (1997-2009): At the age of 16, Jansen joined the Dutch metal band After Forever as a singer. She soon became the front singer and had an important role in writing the lyrics. On the first two albums, Prison of Desire (from 2000) and Decipher (from 2001), she did this together with Mark Jansen (no relation). After Mark Jansen left the band in 2001, she became the main lyricist for the three subsequent studio albums Invisible Circles (2004), Remagine (2005) and the untitled final album After Forever (from 2007). With After Forever she has toured in Europe, the US, Mexico and Brazil. In 2002 After Forever toured as support act for Nightwish. After Forever was dissolved in February 2009. During her time at After Forever, she studied at the Rock Academy in Tilburg from 1999 with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. Jansen is a light soprano, with an ambitus of more than three octaves (C3 to F6). Her singing style varies from opera and clean singing to screaming and grunting. She usually sings in English, but she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. ReVamp (2009-2016): On June 16, 2009, Jansen announced that she would start her own band. Later that year, she unveiled the name ReVamp, which was presented on May 5, 2010. She largely wrote the music and lyrics herself. Joost van den Broek, keyboardist of After Forever, was responsible for an important part of the production of the music in the beginning. Two albums were released: the self-titled first album ReVamp in 2010, and Wild Card in 2013. On the album Wild Card she collaborated with a large number of guest artists, including former After Forever member Mark Jansen (now a member of the band Epica), Devin Townsend and Johan van Stratum and Marcela Bovio from Stream of Passion. Between both albums, she developed health problems and was diagnosed with burnout, which forced her to cancel her concert tour in 2011. By the end of 2011 she had partially recovered and performed with MaYaN in Brazil, among others. A year later, in October 2012, Nightwish contacted her to complete their tour as a guest singer. After she became a full band member of Nightwish in 2013, it was no longer possible to invest sufficient energy in ReVamp, and ReVamp was disbanded in September 2016. Nightwish (since 2012/2013): From October 1, 2012, Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. According to her, she was asked to do this by telephone during a relative's wedding and she had 48 hours before the first performance to learn the set list. On the LouderSound website it received 3.5 out of 5 stars. Other projects and performances In 2009, Jansen performed several times in the Netherlands with the Red Limo String Quartet. In 2017, Jansen recorded an album with Jørn Viggo Lofstad. Together they form the hard rock duo Northward. The first song, While Love Died, was released on August 24, 2018. The full album was released on October 19, 2018. Floor also worked as a guest musician on albums by Arjen Lucassen: Ayreon & Star One, Sabaton (she is married to Hannes van Dahl, drummer of), Nightmare, Avantasia and Bertus Borgers. Floor is the older sister of singer Irene Jansen (who sings in some songs by Star One and Ayreon). She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. They live together in Sweden and have two daughters (born in 2017 and 2023). In October 2022, the singer was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery at the end of October. The follow-up check-up in November showed that the disease had not spread and she was officially declared cancer-free. Jansen used to want to be a biologist. In 2019, the beetle species Tmesisternus floorjansenae was named after her, and in 2020 a fossil brittle star (Ophiomitrella floorae). Her fans nickname her Valkyrie. When then Nightwish singer Anette Olzon was asked in 2012 if she wanted a replacement for the tour during her pregnancy, she initially agreed. However, she was against Floor Jansen being asked to do so, because she was afraid that the fans would not want her back afterwards.

Un coucou de l'armée NIGHTWISH de France, très bonne réaction et analyse à l'écoute du plus grand groupe du monde pour ma part. Vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Je vous souhaite de bons floorgasmes et continuez vos réactions nous serons toujours derrière vous pour vous soutenir pour notre groupe...... Encore plus d'écoutes s'il vous plait...... Merci. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Vous venez d'écouter la 13ème chanson du set, ensuite faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse, puis écoutez une petite histoire comme Storytime, un excellent rock avec un refrain qui reste longtemps dans la tête, ensuite essayez du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le mélange des voix de Floor avec Marko ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide..... Et je pense que notre ami Gabriel Bardac devait arriver sous peu, ou être déjà passé ( Un grand MERCI à Gabriel d'avoir repris le flambeau de notre regrettée Anne ) cliquez sur son nom et allez sur communauté, vous pourrez suivre sa liste en toute confiance avec les meilleurs mixages à la bonne vitesse et avec le meilleur audio mais ce n'est pas une obligation, juste un sage conseil pour entendre une petite partie du meilleur du groupe. Continuez les filets du groupe sont tendus et il vous sera très difficile de vous en sortir, plus de NIGHTWISH s'il vous plait et bienvenu à vous...... She was sent to those wicked earthlings to bring beauty and happiness from a world far, far away. Welcome to the worlds very best singer of all times. Check out her repertoire. She does everything better that anyone else. In my humble opinion. Her power weapons: a voice from heaven, her stage presence, her gestures, her looks, and last but not least: a very humble lovely person. The combination with this very best band a combination from heaven. They make my live beautiful. Over the top comment? Not at all 🫣😅. Check out everything from Nightwish with Floor. Hello Sohum! RuneScape quitted player here, just chippin in to say that my quest to discover Nightwish was almost like yours. It all started with the 6/6/6 massacre video, then some clan friends recommended the band itself and boom, I'm a Nightwish fan for about 10 years now. (quitted RuneScape 4 years ago after more than 10k hours played btw haha) [p.p.s.: The original creator of Runescape is making a new mmo, theres already a page on Steam, it's called Brighter Shores. I'm both hyped and scared, this types of games consume too much life :P]

The genre is Symphonic Metal. Another band playing this style is Epica. This is Floor Jansen, their third and current singer. If you heard Nightwish 15 years ago, you probably heard them with Tarja Turunen or Annette Olzon. Just checked - In RuneScape they played "Planet Hell" with Tarja on vocals. There are also live versions of that song with Floor.
