The Name from the Album "Achtung Baby"....because, the Album was recording in the Hansa Studios in Berlin (Germany) and the audio engineer said every time "Achtung baby" before he start record. Bono tells this story in a documentation about this Album....Achtung Baby=Attention Baby

Last night I saw U2 at the sphere in Vegas. My favorite band of all time. They were great live as they've always been. Bono has lost his high range a little but his stage presence is still there and it was a great show. They do have great ballads but they have a lot more too. You just haven't gotten there yet. You mention the wet guitar sound. The edge is a master of that, his use of dotted eighth note delay sound is innovative. Love your reactions! Keep it up!

Phil, when you say that the lyrics are open for interpretation by the listener... You have hit the nail on the head. If you look this song up on the most popular 'Lyric Meaning' sites, you'll find tons of wildly varying attempts to explain what this song means. U2 songs in general tend to be this way, but 'One' is especially dividing among fans. In the end, I think it is whatever you get out of the song. I won't bore people with my own meaning though, lol. I just wanted to say thanks for the reaction!! Always a fun time hanging out and watching you two react to great videos!

Likewise Exit/Gloria from the Rattle and Hum live performance is also incredible. Some of their songs are far better live and those two are definitely two of those. They are incredible live. If you go back much earlier in their timeline to the early 80's, An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart live at Red Rocks 1983 is amazing. "The Joshua Tree" is almost the best album by U2, except for "Achtung Baby," which is their pinnacle, their "musical masterpiece." To my ear, "The Joshua Tree" is brilliant in every way, introducing a sound and a voice that was new and perfectly of its time. "Achtung Baby," however, is timeless. Listen to it from beginning to end, you'll say there's not a bad song on the album. But listen to it again, you get a sense of how these songs build upon each other. Another listen, and you realize the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.
@ursgeiser6570
@ursgeiser6570 8 ай бұрын
For me it's just the other way around: JT is timeless, musically atmospheric in every respect, rock with pop elements; AB is a total pop zeitgeist, with a riff-like bass-sounding sound, little anarchy, a dangerous tightrope walk between brilliant and banal songs. Because the quality of the songs was high on AB, it worked (in the USA less so, yes yes; it was considered an alternative album, ha, ha), with POP it fell through; The only thing that was correct was the title and the tour name: songs from the cheap shelf in the Pop Mart that were later never played live (except Oasis Starring...). The Edge began to refuse to "paint" musically and specialized in riffs and later in guitar distortion: the pursuit of pop radio songs began. Of course there were still brilliant songs like Gone (greetings from Pearl Jam), Kite (!!!), Love, Peace..., Breathe, Raise..., Cedarwood... .Do I like my daughter better than my son, no, both JT and AB are kind of unique in their own way. Keep having fun with good music.

A compelling argument, especially your point that the same kinds of impetus that led to "Achtung Baby" veered way off-target on "Pop," and we are in total agreement about that album. Also, an apt comparison between son and daughter. Fortunately, we don't have to choose one or the other and are blessed to have both albums in our lives. Keep having fun with good music - indeed! It's actually pronounced: uhk·tuhng. When this song came out, and for a while after, many newly married couples played this song at their wedding/reception thinking this was a love song...like "We Are One" but it's actually the opposite. Classic case of people only hearing the title or the word: "one" One of many examples in the song: "You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl..... And I can't be holdin' on to what you got..... When all you got is hurt."

One is the song that essentially saved the band at the time. They went to Berlin to record a new album in late 1990. During that time the band was struggling with which direction to go. Bono and Edge wanted to get into more a more groovy, dance inspired sound and branch out from the traditional U2 sound. Adam and Larry were hesitant to do that. They were struggling to make anything click in the studio. Bono was struggling with writing lyrics. Tension was high within the band. So much that they were considering breaking up. One day while working on another song Edge came up with the guitar chords that would eventually turn into One. The rest of the band liked what they heard and it brought the band together and they started working on crafting a song around the guitar notes Edge was laying down. It turned into One. From there they wrote one of the best albums of all-time, Achtung Baby. Some say their best album and a favorite of many fans. There is a great documentary about the making of Achtung Baby called From the Sky Down. Highly recommend it along with Rattle & Hum if you’re looking to do a deeper dive into the history of the band. One is a masterpiece song and one of the most important the band has ever written. I enjoy your U2 reactions. I’m a massive U2 fan for the last 37 years. Keek going. You’ll have only scratched the surface with this band.

🔥suggestions: 'Beautiful Day', 'Vertigo', 'Even Better Than the Real Thing', and an early hit, maybe their introduction to much of the world, 'I Will Follow'. From a little later, 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. Cheers, enjoy. 😉🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊

Not one of my absolute faves by my all time favorite group But at least top 30 for me HOWEVER- INCREDIBLY MEANINGFUL song for the band and it's very existence It "saved " them during an especially challenging time for them as a band It got the whole thing back on track to launch them into creating the beauty of my fave U2 album- achtung baby EXCELLENT ANALYSIS OF THE SONG I apologize I WROTE THAT ABOUT THE BAND midway through the video YOU ARE EXACTLY CORRECT in your analysis of the group's dynamics

"Achtung" is German for "Attention" U2 Went to record in Berlin (still West Berlin) after the Berlin Wall broke in Nov'1989. They went in 1990, after the Joshua Tree tour, went on a few years, and the men needed to reorient themselves. They chose a studio, Hanna, where David Bowie, Iggy Pop and such had recorded =and their co-producer Brian Eno (who was in Roxy Music) had work before with Bowie. Hansa was next to the Berlin Wall - it had a ballroom, where Nazi's pitied and danced during the War,....the ballroom, had fine acoustics, like in Bowie's "Heroes". This song "One" was their first full success, after struggles, and demos -U2 found themselves back on their path with "One". "Achtung Baby" (attention Baby!) was a line from Mel Brooks "The Producers" (1968)where two Jewish theatre producers stage "Springtime for Hitler" to be so offensive, and get their Insurance money, for their failing theatre. It was a phrase the Irish guys of U2 knew, without studying German before.

Great job with your reactions, U2 is my favorite band so it's fun to explore this journey. As you continue, before you continue going deep into their more ballad style songs it would be great to return to their harder rock WAR period like New Years Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday as was mentioned. Looking forward to exploring some of your other content. Btw, you've inspired me to make a U2 video ranking songs I think are underrated gems.

I love watching y'all get your first taste of U-phoria! Do yourselves a big favor and watch recordings of them live. The spiritual/emotional aspect you've both picked up on is really palpable there. I'd suggest, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" live from Red Rocks, "October/Bullet the Blue Sky" in Paris (2015), and "All I Want is You/Where the Streets Have No Name" in Dublin (2001). The hometown show in Dublin took place a few days after Bono's dad died of cancer. You can see and feel his grief in the transition between the 2 songs. Happy watching!

Appreciate your reaction to this song, but you're expectation/classification of the U2 sound is WAY off the mark. They do create amazing ballads and exhirlarating anthems, but started as (and still are) a heavy guitar and drum-driven band. Not metal or hard rock (and certainly not bubble gum pop). U2 came out of the 1980's post-punk explosion of bands who created a darker, moodier soundscape (and explored the darker parts of the human experience), with strong, upfront drumming, swirling, ringing guitars and angular, sometimes dissonant riffs. Peers included Joy Division, Psychedelic Furs, Gang of Four, The Buzzcocks, Echo & The Bunnymen,The Cure, The Pretenders, The Jam, Talking Heads, etc.) To get a real read on the band's roots and develpment you've got to listen to their debut album, Boy, then their huge breakthrough album, The Joshua Tree, and finally their 1991 masterpiece, Achtung Baby (which is the album "One" comes from). It's a journey worth taking.

Their style was rock in the 1980s, almost punk-like in attitude. They were certainly at their absolute best in the '80s. New Year's Day is a hard driving philosophical song and probably my favourite of theirs off the epic War album, which also has the classic political Sunday, Bloody Sunday. Pride (in the Name of Love) is another classic about Martin Luther King Jr. The Joshua Tree is their crowning achievement. The entire Side 1 is amazing and so is much of Side 2. Bullet the Blue Sky is a cynical look at capitalism especially in America. With or Without You is a heartbreaking song with what I believe are Bono's best vocals. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is very spiritual and beautiful while Where the Street Have No Name was another big hit off the LP. Red Hill Mining is a favourite of mine but gets little airplay for some inexplicable reason. Listen to When Love Comes to Town, a duet with blues guitar legend B.B. King.

Going through a divorce, you can hear THE EDGE making that guitar cry, his playing makes U2, what's U2, the playing more than create the rhythm it creates atmospheres, It is weird to explain, but his playing is unique in this aspect. It creates this sound that is HIS and it makes U2 U2

Hey Phil & Sam, I thought you might enjoy hearing a tune by three artists that you have reacted to separately, but these three actually recorded a song together. The song was written by Brian Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, and Michael Kamen for the soundtrack of the movie "The Three Musketeers" it was released in 1993 and became an international hit. So, if interested give this one a listen. "Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Sting - All For Love (Official Music Video) (by the channel: Bryan Adams)
