I grew up with this beautiful young man. I was just a kid. He gave me lessons in his studio apartment in Hollywood... To make extra cash when he arrived here, broke (from Greensburg). I never learned. But I had a truck. And he would call me to help roadie for Balck Sheep, and then Racer X. He came to my house with, bassist John Aldereti (Racer X), for a New Year's Eve Party. He ate apple sauce, and drank champagne (for the first time), at midnight. The 80's were so fuhreekin random.

For the non-musicians here, this song originally had Scott Travis on drums. Here is Marco, who is technically a total badass, but Scott’s playing lends itself to the song much better. Does that connect with you guys? Perfect isn’t always better? As a touring musician, I always enjoy the fact that the best bands don’t , technically speaking, have the best musicians ❤❤❤❤

Every time there is a Paul Gilbert video, someone has to mention buckethead. Never fails. Not only did Paul teach him, but Paul has a better grasp of things like voicing, phrasing & most importantly melody. Paul can do everything from straight shred to Beatles melodys. Just a monster talent
@JamoZNL2 жыл бұрын
@@scotttipler8797 As much as i like Paul, i disagree. Buckethead is a much more versatile player, with genres ranging from jazz fusion, ambient, trash metal and blues. I can tell you probably didn't listen to Bucketheaf stuff beyond Jordan and Soothsayer or else you wouldn't have mention Paul having a better feeling for melody. I like both players, but Paul Gilbert for me is a bad ass shredding "rock" guitarist while Buckethead plays nearly every genre known to be played on a guitar. Both virtuoso's but on very different sides of the spectrum...
@scotttipler87972 жыл бұрын
@@JamoZNL this is exactly why I made the comment I did. While I too enjoy bucketheads works from his early years, imo he hasn't grown/progressed like Paul has. There isn't a single style/genre that Paul can't play. He literally has zero weaknesses. Paul continues to grow with every new release.

@JamoZNL4 жыл бұрын
Stop pushing that inferior version to people. It`s terrible. Steve is slightly out of tune, bit sloppy here and there and the orchestra destroys a near perfect song. G3 1996 is by far the best version of FTLOG...
@kitoyobeni13 жыл бұрын
@@JamoZNL The orchestra stiff is interesting, but doesn't deliver the original composition, replacing guitar parts with orchestral parts. Live performances often have some improvisation added, which again is interesting but strays from the original composition. I'd rather hear the studio originals in almost every case, especially with Yngwie.

You really should check out Porcupine Tree 'hatesong' from Dvd Arriving Somewhere - to see chemistry even better than this - by the way PG has always been Fire, I have mr.big & PG albums - but it's all 80s glam & blues with tricks , yawn yawn yawn - and everyone has copied Gilbert - of course he's special - but, nothing new there !!!

Paul is probably one of the most diverse players of all time. This isn't just yawn glam, blues and tricks. Paul mixes a ton of Classical phrasing in his stuff. But, he also is a master flamenco, blues and jazz player as well.

@@loup5044 i'm nearly 50 been playing guitar myself since 1980. I have all of Pauls VHS /shrapnel tapes etc. I have all his albums as well as seen him live a few times solo and w/ Racer and Mr. Big. So yeah kind of a fan. But I've been studying guitar since early 80s. And yes, I'm also a fan of Holdsworth and Govan etc. But I'm still not fed up with guitarists. Why? Cause it's an instrument that continues to evolve w/ every generations. What I love about Paul is that he never stopped learning and evolving.. He even says, I will always be a student of the guitar.. I wish others would follow in that mind set.

@@ryant3600 Wow !!! Your blessed to have seen him live - And I know behind all the fun & BS , he is humble and not stuck up , as most guitarists that I've followed and met are big headed , also played drums for years & they always get their own way with suggestions - and that's where the attitude comes from - Just not in the mood for guitarists at Mo , and huge prog fan so have to be in the mood for blues Rock 'n' Roll - as my favourite album in that category floats between blues & progressive 'BBM' Around The Next Dream - So I'm very lazy these days around bluesy rock n roll stuff - sorry if I offended - he's still a dude at the top end . Amazing guitar player but boring as well. Heard of this guy back in the late 1980s. Impressed by his actual playing but not even remotely impressed with him as a songwriter when compared to tons of other guitarists. I can name many guitarists but I already typed too much so I will name just one which is Devin Townsend. As a songwriter Paul Gilbert isn't even close to Devin Townsend in writing music. Yes Paul can play the actual guitar with more skill and flash but as a songwriter, Paul has nothing on Devin Townsend.
