Because this song is so important, I just wanted to let you know that you missed some important parts of the lyrics in the beginning (I get it, Eddie is distracting! lol!!😍😅). Anyway, incase you see this comment I just wanted you to know. this song was written by Eddie about the abusive relationship his mother suffered through/he witnessed as a kid. You got it backwards. The abuse was at the hands of the man (Ed's stepfather). She stayed because she feeds him... this song was such an inspiration to many of us back then and still is today.
