@DennisKing79797 ай бұрын
Oh wow.. that's great praise
@TheBarkinFrog7 ай бұрын
Yeah I doubt that. That doesn't even sound like something Freddie would say. He was much more effusive in his praise. Freddie's favorite singer of all time was Aretha Franklin, saying about her “She must have one of the best voices ever and she sings like a dream. I wish I could sing half as well as she does. It’s so natural and she puts her whole emotion into it. Each word she sings is so full of meaning and expression. I could listen to it forever. I can still see Aretha as part of my world. ‘Natural Woman’ is one of my all-time favourites. She’s got so many singles and tracks that I like. I love the Amazing Grace album. It’s a kind of gospel album, which I play from time to time and get loads of inspiration from. I’d love Aretha to sing ‘Somebody To Love’, actually.” He would never have just said "Ask Steve Perry." Quite honestly that sounds like a rehash of something similar supposedly said by Jimi Hendrix when he was asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. He supposedly replied “I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher." Other versions of the story has him saying Terry Kath, and Billy Gibbons. The truth is, there's no evidence it ever happened at all, just like Freddie probably never made the same comment about Steve Perry or anyone else.

Keyboardist Johnathan Cain said in an interview that it didn't matter if Steve Perry was in studio, practicing, or live in concert... Steve always sounded that good every time. There's a good reason why JBJ coined the moniker "The Voice" describing Steve Perry. Perry said he first wanted to sing after hearing Sam Cook sing. You can definitely hear some of that influence in Steve's vocal style. My Mom and my older teenage brother saw Journey in concert around this time, and my Mom never forgot the experience. Even when dementia was robbing her of memory, she still remembered Journey & going to see them. (She also went with him to AC/DC & a few other concerts). Unfortunately, I was too young at the time & never got to see them perform before Steve left them for a normal life. Later on, it was for financial reasons that I didn't get to go. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing them. This live performance is the closest I'll ever come to that. No disrespect intended to current frontman, Arnel Pineda, who's a huge Perry fan & does a great job, but it wouldn't be the same w/o Steve.

I'm so glad to hear someone from a younger generation give Steve and Journey your thumbs up. I was 30 years old when this song debuted and all of their music was constantly played on all of the stations here in Portland Ore. I loved their music, but I remember some musicians at the time calling them "sellouts". It made angry to hear that because these guys were virtuoso players and the hit their stride at the perfect time in the 80's. So I figured that some players were just jealous because these guys were so GOOD at their music. And you are right, not very many bands could sound this good live. Do some research like their OPB show from 1978 and you will see some mind blowing guitar playing from Neil Shon. Call it what you will, even with their dumb clothes, these guys have stood the test of time. Also yes, they are still touring. Perry dropped out on the early 90's, but Arnel Pineda is carrying the vocals well. He's not Perry, but well enough.

Saw them live in the 80s. He DEFINITELY sounded that good. Could bring you to tears. They toured so hard for so long he just burnt out. Did a little solo stuff, then disappeared from public life completely.

I love how minimal the stage was...focus is on the band and the music. Awesome.

Most artists from this time sound just like the studio version, live! Autotune was not a thing back then! They are the epitome of true artists and musicians! Someone else I think u would love is Jackson Browne! Listen to Stay/The Load out! He has one of my favorite voices ever!

Great reaction. Love seeing people getting blown away by what I have known about for 45 years and still blows me away. Been very fortunate to have seen Journey 5 times in concert. They never failed to blow the roof off the place each time. I paid to see them twice and had fairly good seats and got paid 3 times to have the best seat in the house. Right in front in between the front row and stage. Worked security for dozens an dozens of concerts. Nobody sounded as good as Journey did live. Like Perry did in this show personalizing Houston, he did everywhere. Never failed to bring a tremendous roar from the crowd. YES it was an incredible experience to see them live and yes, I am completely grateful I was able too. You haven't failed to get a thumbs up from me in any of your reactions so far.

That’s why they call it LIVE. Nothing extra, just talent, which Journey has, in abundance!

Steve Perry is the exception to the rule! That guy can sing like no other whether it's studio or concert. Thanks for the memories.❤️👍

YES!! He absolutely did sound that freaking fantastic live! Steve Perry is a vocal god and no one will ever match his pure voice and range. Steve Perry pulled Journey out of obscurity and into Rock history. A once in a lifetime talent and that my friend is why Steve Perry will forever be THE VOICE!!

Growing up in the 80"s was so amazing. Big hair, shoulder pads and the best music. Maybe that's why my generation is so critical of today's musicians. Loved your enthusiasm to this video.
