What gets me super misty eyed about this performance is knowing Eddie wrote it as a teenager thinking no-one would ever hear it. Glad I found your reaction/review, you can clearly see how much you love them.

For pure audience joy, see their 2006 10 song set for David Letterman at Ed Sullivan theatre (Why Go, Porch, etc). A crowd of middle-aged guys letting it all loose. As a middle guy myself, it's total dad-rock and it's wonderful.

Late to the game here - it's the smile from EV - I absolutely adore Pearl Jam there is just something very human about them. Thanks for this.

Eddie mentioned in an interview recently he misses the crowds at his live performances the most. He got emotional just talking about it. The pandemic has had a profound impact on these musicians. It is literally their livelihood and I imagine the pandemic has likely had a negative impact on their mental health, as they aren't able to feed off the energy from the audience. I can't wait until things are normal again!

The gorge at George 2006, 116 degrees out that day, and he mentions it. Look it up, "daughter/it's ok", I was there in the audience. Greatest concert I've ever been too, and because of that, they became my favorite band. They were above all the other grunge bands and they have outlasted them all. Eddie's passion and love for his fans speaks volumes and you can tell in their performances.

Love the reaction. Pearl Jam is my favorite band of all time. I was lucky to be at Madison Square Garden in 2004 for Pearl Jam. I cannot articulate how loud that place gets and how much the NY crowd loves Pearl Jam and Ed. The sound in there is also incredible. It’s clean, crisp, and loud...perfect for Ed’s voice. You can also tell the band comes in really sharp for a show there. They’re always great live but at MSG, they were off the charts. If you ever have an opportunity to see them at Madison Square Garden, it’s absolute bucket list.

My god, I can't even imagine being Eddie and having the crowd take over after singing two words. I would completely lose myself just like you said, I'm almost crying just watching from a KZbin video. I can't imagine how good that would feel, so much power in that stadium. Loved your commentary on this. You've earned a new sub!

I just happened to discover your channel and stumbled across your Pearl Jam review. I've probably seen PJ live about 10 times. It's a special event every time and I'm always amazed at how grateful the band seems. I have seen Eddie crying on stage several times because he was so touched. I remember one particular concert in Berlin ( i believe it was in 2010 - you can find it here on YT ), Black was intoned, Eddie started singing and the audience took over. Eddie was actually done with the song, but the audience didn't want to finish the song and so it became a 12 minute song. Thanks for the memory, I get goose bumps again when I think of the concerts. By the way, thanks for the reminder and keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany

In my opinion, if I was a singer in a band and after all of the endless practice, sweat and tears, after all the endless night after night of concerts, after all the fame, glory and money, no matter if I was performing in front of 50 fans or 50,000 fans, hearing them finish my songs would be the ultimate highlight of my career!!! And yes it would probably bring me to tears standing up on the stage hearing them sing to me!!!! Love your reaction, I just subscribed. Peace ☮️ ✌️

This gives me goosebumps every fucking time tears sometimes but so much joy. This has to be a perfect moment in rock history it shows how much music impacts our lives. I can’t sing or play anything but I fucking love music ! Music that moves me I totally appreciate other peoples amazing talent. 😍😍😍

Ciao! Thanks for this genuine and heartfelt reaction 😊 I definitely feel you and connect with you on an emotional level. Been lucky enough to join some PJ live performances at different stages of their career and I could witness their generosity and strong bond with their audience. You're so right, they're not there to show off, but to create an authentic connection with people through true emotions and great music. Respect.

Pearl Jam and Eddie coloured my life during at least 3 decades, and they still do. Got all their albums in some way or another. Most CDs have been played so often on my car stereo that they're not really useful anymore. Memories, and emotions, go so deep with many of their songs. Better Man is one of them for me as well ... keep singing along through the tears. And this performance has a true spiritual depth with that venue-wide choir. You sharing this with your personal take on it is much appreciated my man. Thank you very much.

Viva, Eddie! Viva, Pearl Jam!

The song is actually about Eddies step dad who married Eddies mother after his biological father died. This is about a woman who settles for the man she has because she doesn't think she can do any better. Vedder had his stepfather in mind when he wrote it. After Eddie's biological father died, his mother remarried, and Eddie thought she did it only because she needed someone to help support the family. At some concerts, Vedder has dedicated this to "The bastard who married my mother." So he already basically said who its about. Vedder is one hell of a frontman. Pear Jam is a band of a generation. Just awesome!

I 100% agree about Eddie being humble and having no ego here. Most singers will not even shut up during a bandmate's solo, which annoys me to no end. 😡
@w.geoffreyspaulding65883 жыл бұрын
Hope you’re not thinking of Robert Plant here: Robert and Jimmy loved to play off of each other, and it was one of the signature aspects of Zeppelin. Robert’s voice became part of the instrumentation of the song. I had nothing to do with personal ego, and if Jimmy hadn’t liked it, it would have stopped.
