When Randy Travis came out, country was going more pop than classic country. Randy was such a sensation that he took country music back to its roots. Like to see that happen again. Country's not much country anymore.

"Digging up Bones"; and "On the Other Hand" are a couple songs that put Randy on the map, so to speak. His clear baritone was his road map to success.

Sadly a stroke has robbed Randy of his singing ability now, but Three Wooden Crosses is one of his best. The Home Free guys did a cover of this version and did a great job on it, like they do on everything. As Carrie Underwood's star rose, she and Randy also did a duet version of his already famous song I Told You So.

This is such a great song! Randy Travis is a country legend & has recorded numerous hit songs in his career. It is sad that since his stroke he is not well enough to sing now. Home Free does a beautiful cover of this song "Forever & Ever, Amen" that you may want to check out.

Randy was a really good singer... back when he could do it. Randy can't talk anymore, not that he ever did talk much to begin with, but he's happy finally. Every time I hear him sing "1982" it reminds me that's the year I met him. He was hooked on whiskey back then, what my family would call a, "dyed in the wool alcoholic" in his 20's. I wished him success, as he was headed for Nashville. His best singing voice came out after he got saved and was sober, as witnessed in his video "Just a Closer Walk with Thee". And though Randy is in a wheelchair, that incident actually saved his life because he fell off the wagon, went whacko, and was putting his life in danger by running out in traffic nude and hurting himself on the whiskey. He was baptized and I believe that, since everything happens for a reason, Jesus saved Randy Traywick (Travis) from destroying himself with alcohol. I keep thinking of his song about having peace in the valley some day, because Randy has that peace now.

His voice is great. "It's Just a Matter of Time" is a great song by him that has an oldie feel. A few other great songs by him are "He Walked on Water", "I Told You So", "Look Heart, No Hands" and "Promises". I also love the old live shows he did with George Jones. He did one called "Influences" where him and George sat in front of a crowd and talked about the old great influences they had and sang those songs. He was also on the George Jones Show where they sat around and talked, and sang. He partially sang the old Hank Williams song called "I'll Never Get Out of this World Alive". How I badly wish he recorded some Hank covers, because it sounded awesome. There's full uploads on KZbin of those shows. He was also on a Burt Reynolds show in the 90's with George Jones, Alan Jackson, and Vince Gill where Burt asked them questions about their lives, and they sang a couple of songs. Randy talked about how wild he was with drinking and running from cops. He almost went away for a long time. There's a full upload of that show on KZbin, but the quality is terrible, sadly. I wish someone would upload a better quality video of those legends.
