My husband was in the Navy. The 1st line hit hard, oceans apart... This song spoke to me. Granted Richard was touring and my guy was deployed, so it was a bit different. We survived quite nicely. I was right there waiting for him!!⚓️

Shon - Richard was NEVER a part of Speedwagon - and has always been a solo artist. One of the very best of the 80's - with MANY hit songs. He is also an incredible songwriter for other artists. His ballads (Right Here Waiting, Hazzard, Endless Summer Nights) are amazing. BUT he also has some fantastic uptempo - rockier songs. Please, please check out Don't Mean Nothing, Too Late To Say Goodbye, Loney Heart, and Should've Known Better. Enjoy the journey my friend! :)

Richard Marx was all over the airwaves back in the day. He had so many hits! Even so, I couldn't claim that I was a big fan, until... One day, a friend couldn't make it to his concert so they gave me their ticket for free (I couldn't afford such luxuries at that time). I didn't have anything else to do that cold, Pittsburgh, winter afternoon so off I went. Let me tell you what, before that day, I had _never_ heard somebody sound better while performing live than they did in their recorded songs. I honestly didn't know that it was even possible. I was simply blown away, & I left that concert with a new appreciation for his talent, & a fan!

Another great reaction! 'Hold on to the Nights' is my favorite of Richard Marx... though as a singer and musician myself, it's SO hard to pick just one! Richard Marx also wrote songs for many, many other artists, including 'This I Promise You' for N'Sync which went to #1!!! He also has 3 boys who are ALL singer-songwriters, musicians, and producers!! That family is just dripping with talent! I haven't seen Richard in concert, YET... but I'll get there! A bucket list item for sure!

Marx wrote music for a lot of other artists. He wrote this for Barbra Streisand, but she sent it back, saying it was a great song, but she wasn't waiting for anyone, so he recorded it himself.

I remember this song always being played on the radio. He originally didn't want to release it. Not thinking the song would do well. But his wife at the time said he'd be crazy if he did not release it. It of course became his signature song. IMO he is right up there with George Michael as one of the best. It was filmed and wrote because he was touring for months on end and his wife stayed home. So he wrote it pretty much to her. His late father also did the strings for the song. He would also do more for Richard in Now and Forever. Also must listen too.

My aunt died in 1990 in her early thirties from cancer leaving my uncle with three kids from 13-5 in age. He played this at her funeral. Any time I hear it I go back to being 9 holding my little cousin's hand.

Shon, I really hope you see this: There's a guy on KZbin called Chase Holfelder and he sings minor key versions of songs and he did one of this song! It changes the vibe from romantic to creepy as all get out! You really should react to it now that you've heard the original. Chase is a talented guy - Richard heard this cover and said Chase has a good set of pipes on him. As for another Richard Marx song, check out "Keep Coming Back". The bass line on it is so sexy and he got none other than Luther Vandross to join him on the song, it's sooo good!

Doesn't look like you have ever reacted to a Barry Manilow song. As a guy that became a teenager in late 70s, Barry was the kind of artist that you didn't want to admit you liked, but secretly you did. He was a huge selling artist back in mid-70s to early 80s. The women loved him. While primarily a balladeer, he did some upbeat hits too including the Copacabana and Can't Smile Without You. Incredibly talented as both a singer and songwriter. He wrote quite of few of the more memorable jingles used in TV commercials in the 70s and 80s as well. Recommend any of the following songs to react to: I Write the Songs; Mandy; and Could This Be the Magic.
