Love Roy Clark's talent & his humor. He made it look so easy but what he did was actually very difficult. He was able to play his instruments with a really fast tempo. Roy was definitely one of the best guitarists.

Someone once asked Jimi Hendrix who he thought was the greatest guitarists and he said, "I don't know, you should ask Roy Clark".

This is "Ragtime" music. Generally not played that fast, but this is Roy Clark, the magician!

Roy Clark hosted a country music variety show called Hee Haw for about 20 years, he also played banjo, fiddle and mandolin. Pretty much if it had strings he could play it. Member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Great reaction, check out him and Buck Trent doing Dueling Banjos.

Clark was a very humble man. Back in the 80s, I heard him in a radio interview when the host asked what it was like being the world's greatest guitarist. Clark answered by saying that all the time, after concerts when he and the band were sitting around just pickin' and grinnin' while the roadies cleared everything away someone would walk up with a guitar and ask to sit in. He said that often the random stranger would actually be better than he was on the guitar, but for whatever reason, the player wasn't a pro, just a plumber, or an accountant, or a salesman. Maybe he never got a break, maybe he never wanted a break, but he was as good as or even better than Clark himself.

A true genius with guitar, banjo, and fiddle. You might consider reacting to him playing Duelin' Banjos, or "Thank God and Greyhound" to hear his singing skills.

He wasn’t a comedian but he had natural showmanship on top of his incredible playing. To this day he is considered a marvel.

Saw him once in the 70’s in a small town I. Oregon my friend and I had always appreciated his musicianship and showmanship. We snuck in. He played the hell out of a few instruments and it turned out to be amazing really. Brilliant.

A couple of the world’s best and most famous guitarists (I don’t remember their names.) were each asked what it was like to be the world’s best guitarist, and they each answered the same - “I don’t know; go ask Roy Clark.”

They say Roy could play anything with strings. His banjo playing is as good as his guitar playing imo. There are 3 other country guitarist I would like to mention who give Roy a run for his money. Singer comedian Jim Stafford. He had a TV show for a short time in the 1970's. Singer Glen Campbell. He also had a TV show. He was an accomplished studio musician and played with The Wrecking Crew and The Beach Boys before hitting it big himself. There are vids on KZbin of him playing the 1812 Overture with a few different orchestras, it's has to be seen to be believed. Chet Atkins, considered by many to be the best guitar player ever. You might want to check them out.

I would add Jerry Reed to that mix, but some great suggestions in your list. I recently read that Chet had 88 studio albums over the course of his career.

There is a reason that Nashville is called “Music City”…John Sebastian of the Lovin Spoonful (an early pioneer of rock/folk music) made a visit to Nashville in the 60’s. Being from NYC (Greenwich Village) he was blown away by the session pickers, both the quality and the quantity of them!!! To rise to the top of that esteemed group was no small feat!

Agree with all the comments. Roy Clark was always humble and never took himself too serious. He obviously enjoyed performing and entertaining... and in doing so, became a legend! His talent is off the chart! Please check out his 'Thank God and Greyhound' as someone else suggested... we think you'll like it! 😂 RIP Roy

Roy Clark is the best guitar player, ever. Yes, all of the great players from the 70s and 80s produced booming sounds, with the use of a lot of distortion. As far as being able to pick with 100% accuracy, and place chords fast and accurate, there hasn't ever been better. If you want to see him do something more serious, check out Malaguena. He plays that on a 12 string.

Roy Clark and Glenn Campbell were 2 of the best. Roy and Glenn had a few songs that were their signature songs and although the other could play it, they wouldn't out of respect for the other. Check out Glenn's signature song "the William Tell Overture". In the live versions he would sometimes play the guitar while it was on top of his head and he couldn't see what he was playing.

Country artists were like r&b guitarists in,that they, had to bring something special to the table or they would be considered hicks And at the grand ole Opry it wasn't enough to be good - you better be spectacular AND entertaining. Because being spectacular was taken for granted. And as late as the 80s, in the south, black AND white, no one freaked out if you said you, were going to be a guitar player. And it started in the church. If you were working class or lower, parents didn't lose their minds if you said well, I'm off to make it as a guitar player. Parents in poor families knew it was the only way a kid could get out And it all started in the church, where you knew 3 dozen gospel songs y the age of 10.
