Sinead cut her hair when her record company wanted to package her as another “pop princess”, the haircut was her way of protesting/preventing that. Sadly, she’s struggled with a lot of mental health issues and we didn’t get nearly the amount of music from her that we could have otherwise.
@StevesFunhouse
@StevesFunhouse 3 жыл бұрын
She also did it for a couple other reasons. She only cut it completely off after that, but she had short hair long before that ... here's the story from the Dr. Phil Show... "“When we were children, my sister had beautiful red hair, glorious red hair. That’s why I’d be jealous of her,” O’Connor shares. “But my mother took it into her head that my sister’s hair was ugly, and horrible and disgusting. And she started, when I had long hair, she would introduce us as her pretty daughter and her ugly daughter. And that’s why I cut my hair off. I didn’t want to be pretty. O’Connor opens up about her childhood, claiming that she suffered abuse at the hands of her mother daily. And, she reveals that she was raped as a child numerous times.” That sentiment actually followed her everywhere she went. At another time, she also confided that it wasn't safe being a pretty girl where she was from, and short hair helped to tone down her looks. She never escaped it, because, even with pretty much no hair, she was and is still very beautiful.

She's still recorded a lot of good music though over the years, regardless of her mental health... People who only listen to chart music just think she's a one-hit-wonder, but tbh, her own music is far superior to her cover version of Prince's 'Nothing compares To You'.
@StevesFunhouse
@StevesFunhouse 3 жыл бұрын
@@lilyanaharforde3374 I think the sentiment is though, it's great that she did great works. However, she wasn't as recognized for her talents as she should/could have been, and that's the REAL crime.

Mark is correct. It was double tracked at the suggestion of Sinead. However the lead vocal wasn’t double tracked electronically, but by Sinead singing over her first take perfectly in synch. ‘’She sang it straight off and then said, 'I want to double-track it. ' So, that's what she did and it was perfect. I was really surprised. I had never seen anybody double-track something so perfectly that there was no need to then drop-in and fix stuff.’’ It takes some talent to double track your own vocals in perfect sync.

Yeah, she was right though. It's why I gained weight. All my life I was told that fat people were ugly and disgusting and guys don't like fat girls. I thought I would be safe being fat so guys wouldn't want to assault me anymore. I have replaced one problem with another but at least they left me alone. It's also why she tore up the pope's picture because she knew back then what the priests were doing to little kids and the pope and his minions were hiding it all. She tried to tell everyone but no one believed, or wanted to believe her.

So called "cancel culture" is nothing new, it has always existed in one form or another. Real tears she thinks of her mum when she sings this and although prince wrote it she made it her own in a absolutely mind blowing performance of this song Incredible R.I.P SINEAD Like you said asia this song without knowing it would blow the socks off everyone today and has with everyone who hears it, so not only will it never age its 33 years old and so good you think its now, incredible unique and iconic number 1 in 17 or 19 countries back in 1990 Had the worlds jaws dropped never had anyone seen a song done close up and personal like that so good in every way superbly done Remember this so clearly when it came out played on rotation loop but no one ever tired of hearing it brilliant

Almost spot on: this was released in 1990, so 31 years ago. It's one of those timeless songs, I think, which is why you were surprised by just how old it is. It was a massive hit back the and that Parton the video wher tears just roll freely down her face was one of those iconic visuals of that time. So weir to think there's an entire generation (possibly 2) who don't know this song or who Sinaed is. BtW, she's Irish which is why the pronunciation of her name is unexpected. Sadly, another comments have said, she has struggled with a lot of really bad metal health issues over the years.

I Really Like your reaction to her song.. It was sincere and lighthearted at the same time. It was Nice to watch that after hearing of Sinead's passing earlier today. I never heard the entire song until today watching your reactions; And I remember when it came out in 1990 when I was in high school.. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, she said she only thinks of her Mother when she sings the song (even though Prince wrote it)..

Prince wrote this song - another genius. The Mama line, i think was her conversing with her Mum and she's conveying that the flowers (that were in bloom when her man was with her) withered away because they felt the sorrow she was experiencing. Just my take...

Her voice is unearthly & can give me chills no matter how many times I've heard a song. Nothing Compares to you and The Foggy Dew, a folk song she collaborated on with The Chieftains, are timeless. Sinead pours the pain of her personal struggles into her music, so sincere, and then turns those expressive eyes on you. She's been done wrong by the industry & misunderstood all through her career, but she will always be significant.

You think that song is good, take a listen to Troy. Perfection! To answer your question, she once said that this was a song she imagined singing to her mother. Remember the song is a cover of a song written and originally performed by Prince so I think it meant different things to each of them. I am a year younger than her and her album The Lion and the Cobra changed my life. We just found out she died earlier this evening at only 56 and I can’t stop crying. She changed the world in so many ways to speak up for those without a voice. Thank you Sinead for all your strength, courage and music. Now be with your sweet son. RIP 💔

She made it her own indeed, despite the irony about this song is that Sinead didn't like the song and she also didn't want to record it because she said she just couldn't relate to it; nevertheless it got included into Sinead's debut album because her manager kept pressing her for a sure-hit song for the radio.
