Sinead cut her hair when her record company wanted to package her as another “pop princess”, the haircut was her way of protesting/preventing that. Sadly, she’s struggled with a lot of mental health issues and we didn’t get nearly the amount of music from her that we could have otherwise.
@StevesFunhouse3 жыл бұрын
She also did it for a couple other reasons. She only cut it completely off after that, but she had short hair long before that ... here's the story from the Dr. Phil Show... "“When we were children, my sister had beautiful red hair, glorious red hair. That’s why I’d be jealous of her,” O’Connor shares. “But my mother took it into her head that my sister’s hair was ugly, and horrible and disgusting. And she started, when I had long hair, she would introduce us as her pretty daughter and her ugly daughter. And that’s why I cut my hair off. I didn’t want to be pretty. O’Connor opens up about her childhood, claiming that she suffered abuse at the hands of her mother daily. And, she reveals that she was raped as a child numerous times.” That sentiment actually followed her everywhere she went. At another time, she also confided that it wasn't safe being a pretty girl where she was from, and short hair helped to tone down her looks. She never escaped it, because, even with pretty much no hair, she was and is still very beautiful.

She's still recorded a lot of good music though over the years, regardless of her mental health... People who only listen to chart music just think she's a one-hit-wonder, but tbh, her own music is far superior to her cover version of Prince's 'Nothing compares To You'.

Mark is correct. It was double tracked at the suggestion of Sinead. However the lead vocal wasn’t double tracked electronically, but by Sinead singing over her first take perfectly in synch. ‘’She sang it straight off and then said, 'I want to double-track it. ' So, that's what she did and it was perfect. I was really surprised. I had never seen anybody double-track something so perfectly that there was no need to then drop-in and fix stuff.’’ It takes some talent to double track your own vocals in perfect sync.

It was a massive hit back the and that Parton the video wher tears just roll freely down her face was one of those iconic visuals of that time. So weir to think there's an entire generation (possibly 2) who don't know this song or who Sinaed is. BtW, she's Irish which is why the pronunciation of her name is unexpected. Sadly, another comments have said, she has struggled with a lot of really bad metal health issues over the years.

Yes her mother, despite the fact her mother beat her physically, mentally and spiritually and died when Sinead was 18 and was a troubled woman Sinead was thinking of her every time she sang this, its almost like a form of forgiveness.....RIP Sinead....

Asias age has less to do with her not knowing her as Sinaed tearing up a photo of the Pope in front of a live audience ! After she did this she was pretty well blocked across the USA. Americas loss. She is one of the very best ever to come out of Europe A tortured soul but adorable and the voice of an angel

Sinead O’Connor became my hero, went on Saturday night live she did a song fight for good over evil. Held up a picture of the Pope, and tore it up and said fight the real enemy. A lot of people hated her for that. She became my hero

Prince wrote this song - another genius. The Mama line, i think was her conversing with her Mum and she's conveying that the flowers (that were in bloom when her man was with her) withered away because they felt the sorrow she was experiencing. Just my take...
@jedislap87263 жыл бұрын
I think it was just a hold over line from Prince's lyrics, calling his ex "Mama".

A really epic song to hear of hers would be "The Last Day of Our Acquaintance". It literally has everything, especially her insane range. No one I've ever heard can express that much anger & torture, but still sound like an angel! (& yes, was released in '90!) I am a little shook myself when I date some of my favorites lol Great reaction! I hope you will look up some of her other songs!✌🙂

Written by prince sung by sinead and redone by Chris Cornell. Now listen to Chris’s version. Stunning

More Sinead!! She is such an incredible singer-songwriter… and an incomparable voice IMO. Other Sinead recommendations: Troy, Black Boys on Mopeds, Fire on Babylon, Last Day of Our Acquaintance… list goes on and on. Very versatile and important artist.

Her voice is unearthly & can give me chills no matter how many times I've heard a song. Nothing Compares to you and The Foggy Dew, a folk song she collaborated on with The Chieftains, are timeless. Sinead pours the pain of her personal struggles into her music, so sincere, and then turns those expressive eyes on you. She's been done wrong by the industry & misunderstood all through her career, but she will always be significant.

As everyone has probably said already: it’s a Prince song (of course it is) he talked Sinead into covering it. Released 1990

Sinead O'Connor is a very amazing singer. She can sing soft like a whisper, or belt out a song with power and fury. She has put out about 10 albums over the years. My favorite is her first "The Lion And The Cobra" and "Faith And Wisdom". Check her out.

I’ve been waiting for another Sinead reaction. She has so many lovely songs, the voice of an angel from a tortured soul. Can you do next - Troy, Feels So Different, Drink From The War, You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart, I Am Stretched On Your Grave.

Since Prince wrote the song, the verse ending with “mama” I’m sure referenced his lover, not his mother. Sinead didn’t change the gender in the verse.
@hfortenberry Жыл бұрын
You think that song is good, take a listen to Troy. Perfection! To answer your question, she once said that this was a song she imagined singing to her mother. Remember the song is a cover of a song written and originally performed by Prince so I think it meant different things to each of them. I am a year younger than her and her album The Lion and the Cobra changed my life. We just found out she died earlier this evening at only 56 and I can’t stop crying. She changed the world in so many ways to speak up for those without a voice. Thank you Sinead for all your strength, courage and music. Now be with your sweet son. RIP 💔

One of the best voices of the eighties.. She self destructed and made a comeback in the 2010s but done the same.. Way too sad for such an amazing voice.

Asia I'm so sorry, if I would've thought you hadn't heard this song before I would've suggested this before I suggested the Chris Cornell cover. I love this song. One of my favorites. Prince wrote it and she covered it and made it hers.❤❤
@davidlucio71513 жыл бұрын
She made it her own indeed, despite the irony about this song is that Sinead didn't like the song and she also didn't want to record it because she said she just couldn't relate to it; nevertheless it got included into Sinead's debut album because her manager kept pressing her for a sure-hit song for the radio.

The song was written and recorded by Prince. Then more recently a cover was done by Chris Cornell before he left this Earth. But this Irish lass did it the best. So beautiful. The passion and pain. Her voice. 😢 ✌️

Excellent video. Sinead was a boom in the late 80s, she had everything to be a superstar but by telling the truth to the church she lost her future. people who are hurt by the truth like to live in a lie, well. By the way Asia, with permission from BJ but you have a smile and a look that mesmerizes and melts, you are beautifully precious.
