For this we chose Mad about you by the band Slaughter. Song choice was again, very tough because do you start with his early days in Vinny Vincent Invasion or go right to his solo band project? We chose the later and went with a song that wasn’t necessarily a big radio hit like Fly To the Angels, but a just a fun video that I thought would be a great introduction for Alexis. Slaughter was a fun band to see live and it’s Mark had one of the best vocal ranges in the late 80s and early 90s.

From 1985 to 1995, I took my son to rock concerts, in a 11 year span we have 171 ticket stubs. We started when he was 10, and an aspiring guitarist. Mostly metal, hairbands, and classic rock. Your showing Alexis these brings back many fond memories.

I've got a soft spot for Slaughter. "Up All Night" was the party song, "Fly to the Angels" was a great popular ballad, but lesser known songs like "Spend My Life", "Days Gone By", "Streets of Broken Hearts", "Real Love", "Eye to Eye", and others make for a deserving legacy in the era.

LOVE Slaughter! What makes your reactions so different from others I watch, is that you were there, just like I was, when all of this amazingness was going on (we are about the same age), and you have so many great stories that tie into the bands due to the jobs you've had. I'm always extra excited when I see one of your new videos come out. As for the long hair, mine has been long since I was about 17, and quite often, was down to my butt as well. It's still long (I just got it cut so its a little longer than middle of my back) but it is thinning now. :(

I met Mark a few years ago, at, of all places, Memphis TN. and he was there to help support Randy from Alabama who is a huge supporter of St. Jude, there in Memphis, as a radio jock, we were there for a seminar for putting on a "Country Cares for St. Jude Children" radio-athon, we had 5 stations in our cluster at the time, so anyway, the last night at this event, we were sitting at this dinner, just before it started, I kept looking at this empty table, save for one "long" haired guy sitting there, I kept looking at him, cause I was sure I knew who he was...I was not a country jock, but I was PD for the cluster, I finally walked over and said, "You're Mark Slaughter, aren't you?" he was like Yeah, surprised you knew who I was, I told him I wasn't a country jock, and that I actually did mornings on the classic rock station, so he and I chatted for a bit, before he went up on stage with Randy and belted out a few tunes....Enjoy your channel, Rock ON!!

We have more on SH and QR coming very soon. I call Slaughter his solo project to distinguish between his time in Vinnie Vincent Invasion. I don't really mean it in the literal sense but just an easy way to identify his projects. A few people have pointed that out. Sorry for not clarifying.

I was stationed in Southern CA from '86-90, the height of hair metal. It was a dream come true. They held a charity softball event at USC for the TJ Martell Foundation. I've got some great pics, but just off the top of my head, some attendees were Vince Neil, Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), the late Ray Gillen, Doc Maghee (manager) and Mark Slaughter. Slaughter hadn't broken into the big time Up All Night success yet, so he was still a hungry up and comer. But he was just the nicest, most down to earth dude.

Great reaction.. Mark Slaughter has some pipes for sure.. and what a fun great bunch of musicians.. You should do the live version where it's simo cast on TV.. They do two songs, and one is of course Fly to the angels about his girlfriend that died while he was on tour and he wrote it about her, but on this live version he really sings big time and hits some epic notes very high! Just look for the simocast I think it's called.. It was from a radio and tv promo back in the early 90's.. Like 91 or 92 or something.. Very cool guys and thanks so much! Tim

You guys hit the spot again. 🎯🎯🎯 Very recently I was finally able to put my hands on the live EP, on CD format, that they've released in 1990, "Stick It Live", given the great success of the band's debut. Today, without subsequent pressings, it is a rarity among collectors. I remember as it was yesterday, being highly impacted by the promo for "Up All Night" thoroughly watched via a VHS tape, that a cousin recorded for me with hours and hours of Dial MTV in 1990. Great video production, energetic performance, catchy chorus and a musical quality that stood out from other bands of that very style that were fiercely fist fighting for the mainstream of that time. That was the twilight of Hair Bands era. Album cover by Hugh Syme, so therefore the band's songwriting had to be really good to justify this type of investment by the label. Unfortunately, in my opinion, that inspiration that put them on top with their debut quickly faded and they never managed to put out another bright and vibrant album like "Stick it To Ya". By the way, "Slaughter" was actually a band that used Mark's last name as their "marquee". He indeed had a solo career, later on as Mark Slaughter and like this he released two albums, "Reflections in a Rear View Mirror" (1995) and "Halfway There" (2017).

The funny thing is back in those days this music was never referred to as hair music or glam rock. It was just plain hard rock or heavy metal and bands like Metallica and Megadeth were considered death metal or speed metal. The terms glam rock or hairbands didn’t catch on until the late 90s and into the 2000s.
